Violation of VirtueVerse Terms of Use and Ettiquette

It has come to my attention that a request was given to you by sysop Unhearted to remove content referring to the characters of two other players from your page. You chose to ignore her request, so now you are receiving that same request from me.

You have until 13 June 2012 @ 5:00 PM EDT to comply with the request, if you do not comply by the specified time I will remove the offending content myself.

VirtueVerse is not the place for fights and arguments between players. This is your first and any only warning. Per the site Terms of Use your second offense will result on a temporary ban. The third offense will result in a permanent ban from the site. In the future if you have a disagreement with another use please keep your arguments off the site.

Harassment and Using the site as your personal battleground

Per the VirtueVerse Terms of Use you agreed to follow all posted policies, guidelines and etiquette for the site. Part of those policies outlined in the Good Style Guide to Conduct and Vandalism addresses situations such as the one you find yourself in:

Please do not engage in personal attacks or sniping via talk pages or articles. It's one thing to list your character as a foil or nemesis to someone else's character. However, using your character page to trash the reputation of the other character is frowned upon. Try to limit it to common history, and indicate that the two characters do not get along well. If you wish to showcase opinions your character has of another character, please make it clear that they are opinions only.
Attacking other players/contributors is a definite no-no. There are plenty of other mediums available on the Internet to engage in that type of behavior. Such contributions will be pruned, and may result in banning of accounts.

It is also detailed in the Virtueverse Etiquette:

Respect other user's boundaries. If a player asks you to leave reference to their character out of your page, do so. If you object to your character's representation on someone else's page, please contact the page author through their User_talk: page or in-game to request the reference be removed politely; do not make unauthorized edits to other user's articles. If you feel the offending content constitutes intentional harassment directed at you, the player, contact a Category:Sysop to have the situation reviewed.

Am I not even allowed to defend what was written as in-character? Certain people seem to be under the assumption that in-character interaction is required to gather an opinion about another character. My character has been referred to as a copy of one of those characters various times by various different people and he's got his opinion on where it originated. I've never said that my character's claims had any in-character merit. Are they not allowed to be wrong? I'm not just going to lay down and accept this when I believe that these claims are wrong. Now, if I were doing the same thing on more than just that character; saying the same things, then I'd believe they would have reason.

The parties have requested politely to the sysops that you remove the reference. It is as simple as that, this policy was enacted to avoid potential flame wars and arguments that take away from the purpose of the site which is to create a biography for your character. I am sorry there seems to be an issue between you an them in game, my authority is only with this website and keeping the potential issues off it, that is why at this time I am telling you that you need to remove the character names. If you wish to leave a statement about your character being confused with other characters that is fine, just do not reference specific names. - Ransim 19:50, 12 June 2012 (CDT)

Specific names removed.

Just an outsider's viewpoint

Hi.

I just got done reading what I could of this situation. I feel it is a wholly unnecessary counteract to something that's been made a much bigger deal than it really is. Now don't get me wrong, I don't really know the characters (nor the players thereof) that were mentioned in this incident, but that's just it: the comments were clearly IC and NOT an attempt to start a flame war. Arguably, it was more of an attempt on the behalves of the offended players and not Iamnitro to spark something hostile and decimate Iamnitro's reputation, as they are the ones forcing this user to remove his own character's in-character opinion from his own character's article over something that was clearly not targeting the players or their player's feelings, but rather their characters.

If anything, I find it offensive that Iamnitro should be forced to modify the contents of said article simply because the players of the characters that were mentioned didn't care to withstand something said in roleplay. There is a definite line between in-character and out of character and having -- as a player -- read what the character Quickline had clearly said from a roleplay perspective, this seems more like an act meant for the preservation of frailty over perceived injury. I did not perceive this as Iamnitro attempting to offend the players personally; ergo, the players must have taken it personally themselves, which is a personal problem rather than a problem of Iamnitro's.

I'm not going to disrespect the rules and I do understand their place, but I just wanted to make my voice known and question if the actions here really prevented a flame war or simply preserved fragile egos. I'd certainly hate to have my work undone simply because someone didn't like what my character said about their character. That isn't mediation at all; rather, it's censorship and in my humble opinion, censorship and restriction are worse than people being upset because of text on a screen that wasn't even directed towards them, but rather a creation of theirs. We are adults here and our skin should be substantially thicker than has been put on display in this occurance.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Editing Request

When making a lot of tweaks and updates to your pages, could you please use the Preview function or mark your updates as Minor? That way the rest of us can get a better overview of other peoples' updates on the Recent Edits page without it being full of +7, +33, -35, +128, etc. changes by a single user. I'm sure a lot of folks would appreciate that. Thanks! --@TheImperial 17:37, 23 November 2012 (CST)
