Wayfare is often seen with the Troll Thryth, whom she views as a close friend, as well as Tenebraxa, who acts as a sort of mentor and surrogate big sister as well as a landlord. As a former member of the Paragon Youth Corps, she has a number of allies within the group and the associated coalition, most notably Caitlin Mallory (Flare Girl), who first introduced her to the Corps. While it was public knowledge that Caitlin and Kacey were involved it's also known they are no longer together as a couple. The heroes Deadlight and Rapace arguably have the most insight into Wayfare, having known her longer than anyone expect perhaps her parents.

Personality

Comfortably sandwiched somewhere between 'girly-girl' and 'tomboy,' Kacey is fairly outgoing and talkative, and has no trouble walking up to random strangers and striking up a conversation. At the same time, she tends to downplay her own abilities and qualities, rarely accepts praise without protest and seems genuinely shy when it comes to any form of self-promotion. In general, she's a friendly, loyal, kind person who believes in helping people however she can, regardless of how she may feel about them personally, though this doesn't preclude the occasional bout of cutting sarcasm -- directed at her friends as well as those she dislikes. Kacey is genuinely dedicated to doing good and does her level best to use her powers responsibly.

Powers

Though not generally applicable in combat situations, Kacey's primary powers are her clairvoyance and her talent for portal creation/teleportation. The former allows her to navigate flawlessly so long as she has some knowledge of the place, person or object she's seeking. Thus, while she would be unable to simply 'find John Smith's third ex-wife' on demand, she could sense the woman's location if presented with a clear photo or a detailed description. Wayfare is also able to create traversable wormholes and can bend space in an unknown fashion to teleport over certain distances. Her unique mastery of this ability even allows her to 'lock down' people and objects in space-time, preventing them from moving.

Somewhat more viscerally impressive is her power over gravity, which also allows her to manipulate pockets of pressure and other atmospheric conditions to effectively control local weather. At this time, her powers in this regard include the ability to fly in a limited fashion, the power to raise hurricane-force winds, the ability to polarize the local atmosphere to create thunderstorms, the ability to draw condensation out of the air into a freezing sleet, and the ability to channel her powers into a glowing, quasi-intelligent node of pure gravitational force which can follow her around and aid her in battle. She calls this node her 'bauble,' while her girlfriend Caitlin prefers the term 'glowy ball of death'. Though Wayfare is an undisputed master of her powers she prefers to use them defensively, playing a support role above all.

Abilities

Kacey is a more than capable musician, proficient in arranging vocal harmony while competent enough with the guitar, bass, drums, piano, pedal steel and banjo to improvise in a jazz setting, though she rarely calls attention to any of this. She also has a solid background in and knowledge of the Texas music scene. In addition, she knows a great deal about flowers and their meaning in popular culture, and she's a fairly skilled skateboarder.

Equipment

Kacey relies on her powers for most of her needs while on duty; however, she usually carries a worn khaki messenger bag, and always has her HeroCom system on her person.

Character History

Austin/Civilian Life

Kacey Ann Baker was born in Austin, Texas on August 18th, 1991, to entertainment lawyer Alexsis Baker and her husband Eric Baker, a jazz trumpet player, both mutants in their own right. Despite her undeniably unusual and 'hip' parents, Kacey's childhood was fairly prosaic, though she was exposed to the local music scene and befriended by numerous musicians from a young age. A solid B student throughout her initial school career, Kacey shied away from most formal extracurricular activities and clubs, spending most of her free time in her father's studio or at skate parks with friends.

The First Rikti Invasion

It was at the height of the Rikti war, during their invasion of Austin, that Kacey's powers first manifested, primarily in the form of her teleportation abilities. Though they were of little use on the front lines, and she was only a child at that point anyway, her ability to create portals and move instantaneously across space allowed her to carry countless people to safety, and soon earned her the call sign Wayfare, after her gift for granting people safe passage. It was during this time that she first met Rapace.

Rangers

After the war, with the blessing of her parents, Kacey began to work with teen heroes in Texas most notably Deadlight and Rapace. It was during this time that she first began to date the latter.

Paragon

In the summer of 2007, however, her parents decided to relocate the family to Paragon City so Alexsis could take a new job and Kacey could enjoy a more structured environment in which to further develop her powers, taking advantage of the resources offered to the city's heroic community. It was during her first few weeks in Paragon that Kacey met Caitlin Mallory at Pocket D, striking up a casual friendship that swiftly blossomed into a surprisingly deep romance. With Caitlin's help, Kacey was able to find the confidence to reveal her identity to the public. The redheaded superheroine also introduced Kacey to the Paragon Youth Corps.

The Second Rikti Invasion and the Aftermath

It was during the Second Rikti Invasion that Kacey's life change once again. The conflict saw the return of Rapace and Deadlight into her life as well as a new friend in Fatal Harmonic. It also saw the end of her relationship with Flare Girl and a brief period of homelessness for Kacey as her parents loft in Founder's Falls was destroyed during a battle. Throughout the conflict Wayfare continued to devote as much time as possible to beating back the Rikti perhaps causing her personal relationships to suffer. In the final days of the heavy fighting Wayfare was stumbled across in Pocket D by Agony and after a lengthy conversation was sent taken up to Nation to examine possible dangerous side effects of her powers and methods of overcoming them. Throughout all of this time the numerous stresses on Kacey and Caitlin had caused their relationship become called into question on both ends. This eventually culminated in Kacey's memories of her relationship with Caitlin being suppressed by Sychosis in a misguided attempt to 'help' her. Although initially refusing to believe it had happened Kacey eventually confronted Sychosis on Nation and demanded her memories be restored. Whole once again Kacey immediately set out to find Caitlin. Perhaps in a typical fashion life intervened once again though. Rumors of Flare Girl having moved on as well as the sheer baggage of the preceding weeks convinced Kacey that she truly needed to put Caitlin behind her in order to truly move on. Returning to Nation Kacey once again approached Sychosis and this time asked her to wipe her memories of Caitlin completely. With Rapace holding her hand Kacey closed her eyes and opened them again completely unaware of the existence of Caitlin Mallory beyond having heard the name in professional circles.
