Section 1: History

Section 1.1: Origin

Daryon isn't from around Earth. He's from a world constantly torn by fuedal-style wars. Country boundaries shift constantly and mercenary work is exceedingly commonplace. In fact, most people are conscripted into their country's military force for a minimum amount of time set by their country. Despite this, people managed to live happy lives.

In addition to not being from Earth, he also wasn't exactly a normal child, even for his world's upbringing. He was the subject of an experiment to infuse a person with magical power. Not to give them powers, just to make a super-soldier. In utero, the mother was treated with rituals and all sorts of unpleasantness to expose the child to latent magical power. With Daryon, it worked. His mother, due to all the treatments and experiments, ended up passing shortly after he was born.

Due to his nature, Daryon's childhood was essentially an experiment. He was raised to be highly educated, with lots of work and very little play. The magical infusions enhanced his mental and physical ability to be much higher than an average human. Naturally, he wasn't told that. Even to the present day he doesn't know exactly how much he was augmented. The keepers that educated Daryon didn't let him outside, opting to keep him in a controlled interior environment, using magic to simulate the outside. After a very long time, he was finally released into the world.

Section 1.2: Early On

As soon as Daryon was set upon the world, he was conscripted into the military regiment for his country. He learned how to fight and strategize quickly, rocketing through the program. His abilities, unmentioned to anyone, were assumed to be natural. Needless to say, his military service was exemplary, and he was released from service with honors.

His service went observed by the group of mages that engineered him, but they took no action to contact him. Instead, one of Daryon's commanding officers approached him with an offer: Creating a mercenary group that would work freelance, but with the stipulation that they would adhere to a specific moral code. Daryon, having witnessed more than his share of "necessary atrocities", readily agreed, though he was still very new to the world, like a teenager just forming his first solid opinions.

Daryon's recruitment was based on raw talent and unhoned potential. His commanding officer saw this, and acted on him before he could be manipulated into performing atrocities in the name of a flag. The commander christened his group the Black Lions, after delivering the tenets of the organization. Daryon, being so young, idolized his commander and the ideals he represented. Things wouldn't be as bright as they were that day forever, though.

Section 1.3: Early Mercenary Career

Being the youngest in a company of battle-hardened older warriors was definitely not easy for Daryon. They ribbed at him, teased him for inexperience. They called him Roughblade due to his inexperience, which he took as his surname, eventually. All it did was strengthen the newcomer's resolve. In training, he'd push himself hard, and in battle he'd push harder. Over time, the men learned to respect the young man that was hell-bent on fighting for the Lions' cause.

At one point, after a particularly hard-won battle, a group of the men invited Daryon out to a pub for drinks and carousing. This being the first social interaction he'd had, Daryon happily accepted. Of course, he had very little tolerance for alcohol and even though he was more resilient than most, he eventually succumbed to intoxication. In the process of ordering another drink, a large soldier brushed into him, and naturally Daryon took offense, calling the man out. Said man warned Daryon against this course of action, and Daryon, being in the state he was, shoved the man. The man's reaction was to pick Daryon up, and hurl him through a tavern wall, and issuing a warning: "Choose your battles wisely. If this happens again, I'll kill you myself." What Daryon didn't realize in his drunken state is that he had just tried to pick a fight with the heart of the Black Lions.

Clashing with the boss put Daryon into a funk, having never had something like that happen to him. He'd never lost to someone before even fighting them. It opened his eyes. With those events in mind, Daryon redoubled his already exhaustive training, every moment spent getting stronger. He also hasn't taken a drink of a single drop of alcohol since.

Section 1.4: The End of the Lions

In time, the Black Lion recruited more and more people, requiring an established chain of command. He promoted Daryon to second in command due to his hard work and continued unwavering service to the ideals of the Lions. Other people, naturally, were jealous of the favoritism shown to the young upstart, even though they had shown just as much loyalty. Daryon noted this, raising the concern to the Lion, who took it under consideration.

Unfortunately, that consideration wasn't enough to stem the tide. A group of the mercenaries had begun to plan their mutiny, intending to take place during the next operation. They sold parts of the plan to the enemy, hoping to send Daryon and the Lion to their deaths, and reap the rewards of an established and well-regarded mercenary company. With their plans in motion, they simply had to wait.

The day of the op, nothing was amiss to Daryon and the Lion, aside from the fact that the dissenters had fallen into line. It was attributed to the rallying that the Lion had done since the promotion. Naturally it was simply due to their moment coming. The company marched out, Daryon and the Lion leading the charge.

It should have been a simple mission: eliminate the leader of a rival mercenary group. In and out, only two groups of soldiers needed. The Lion sent the group containing the dissenters as a backup while he and Daryon led a smaller group into the heart of the camp, wearing their uniforms. As the attack group walked up to the gate, they were greeted, and led into the camp, as per the plan.

Section 3.1: Training

Daryon's a weaponmaster. That means he's trained to proficiency with almost every sort of weapon that can be used in melee combat, and even a few that aren't. He can use a bow and a sling, but doesn't like guns. His specific favored styles are two handed and weapon-and-shield.

Section 4.1: Allegiances

  • Carrie
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: WOMWAN
      • Daryon met Carrie after having a relationship breakdown due to his own prior issues. He and Carrie hit it off, primarily through him teasing her relentlessly. He saw through her protests and just kept poking at her. With Fenny's assistance (read: INCESSANT PUSHING) he took her out to Duck, and they ended up moving in together after resolving an issue with Jessi's control freak of a mother.
  • Carina
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Unknown
      • Carina was Daryon's first relationship on Primal Earth. Daryon offered to train Carina, citing that it'd help her self-confidence. They were nudged together by Ashlee White, and the relationship was progressing well, until Daryon broke down at something Carina said. Due to his issues, Daryon broke off the relationship. Presently, Daryon is attempting to re-establish contact with Carina in hopes of making reparations.
  • Ashlee White
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon met Ashlee after he came back, trading innuendos with her in the Pocket D Ski Chalet. He was also teasing Carina a little, and Ash nudged Carina into asking Daryon out. He accepted the offer. After the breakup, she lectured Daryon, and supported Carina, taking over the training.
  • Jessi
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon met Jessi at about the same time Carrie did, and they all started talking together. Daryon helped to formulate the plan to free Jessi from her mother, and offered to help in any way possible. He enjoys her company. though certain ingrained behaviors of hers bother him slightly.
  • Fenny
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon met Fen first. Daryon crashed through a portal and ended up running into Fen immediately. The two were wary at first, but eventually Daryon's wariness lowered and he let himself have fun around Fen, which only strengthened their friendship. Fenny also fought Daryon once. Fenny got hit by an axe.
  • Web
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon hasn't had too many interactions with Web, but they've never really been at odds. Since being sent back as the Call of Valor, their interactions have been far more amicable.
  • Rowan
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon considers Rowan to be very similar to himself due both in part to a past of not really having a normal childhood as well as leading a group of freelancers. He likes to offer her suggestions to make things easier on herself.
  • William Carrigan
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • Daryon admires Will for two reasons. His ability to process things, and the fact that he can fiddle with technology without it exploding. He made friends with Will by proxy of being friends with Fen.
  • Penny Sanders
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • She snarks at him, he threatens to beat her up. He and her established this relationship before he died, and it quickly resumed when he came back.
  • Brian
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Friend
      • At first, Daryon thought Brian was a serious trained fighter, and wanted to spar with him. Then the sparring happened and Daryon discovered that Brian used Captain Kirk's fighting style. Facepalms ensued.
  • Shrouded
    • PRESENT DESIGNATION: Unknown
      • Shrouded kicked Daryon into a wall.

Section 4.2: Daryon's Wall

Judge the Call of Valor.

Daryon is the best kind. Strong. Smart. Willing to do things that some people might not in order to keep the city safe. Whatever those valkyries have sent him here for, I'm glad he's ended up in Paragon. A good man... and my favorite one. Don't smile at me like that, Daryon. SH. - Carrie

"Goomba. That's right, I said it." - Vivi
