History

Secret Origins

"Wandering the streets or Paragon City, a young orphan boy was bitten by a radioactive Dale. Rather than getting sick, this boy discovered he had the powers of every Dale in the world! These powers include: super speed, flight, shooting fireballs, pulling an axe out of nowhere, and being tougher than cafeteria french toast sticks! He now fights for truth, justice, and the Dale way! He is the Daring Dale-Man!"

That is the story Dale-Man has told those who have met him. The truth, however is...

Different.

Dale Mann was an ordinary citizen who worked as a high school guidance counselor. As it turns out, he hates kids, so he made the students miserable whenever they saw him. As a result no kids ever came to see him, so he could pretty much sit in his office all day playing games while collecting 5 figures a year.

He loved his job.

One school day Dale had to be the substitute for a teacher during a field trip to the Terra Volta reactor. While the students were touring the building, Dale hung out in the break room, watching Judge Judy. Due to a minor air leak in the room, Dale was exposed to a dose of radiation. Dale didn't get sick from this, and in fact didn't even notice it had happened. The scientists didn't discover the leak until after the field trip was over, and weren't aware anyone had even been in the break room. They fixed the leak, and Dale went on with his life as normal.

When the Rikti invasion occurred, the school Dale worked at was destroyed. Dale Mann was now out of a job. He was not pleased. He hated the Rikti for taking away the best job he had ever had.

Three years later, Dale had finally gotten a new guidance counselor job in Paragon City. While walking to the school one day he was attacked by a group of Skulls. Instinctively, he pulled an axe out of nowhere and fought them off. He was shocked by the power he had now possessed. He quickly registered as a hero. When they asked for a name, he told them "Dale Mann," his real name. They had actually meant his super hero identity, as many heroes kept their true identity a secret. So his Hero ID reads "Dale-Man."

Dale-Man Begins

Dale's new job as guidance counselor was even easier than his old one, since he worked in a bigger school, which meant more counselors to do all the work he wasn't doing. He always had plenty of time to go and be a hero. As he fought more and more, more powers manifested themselves. He could do new moves with his axe, he could run with super speed, he could even shoot fire from his hands! He became unstoppable against anyone! Well, almost anyone.

Sammy Sapper

The first Sapper Dale-Man ever encountered while facing the Malta was named Sammy. Sammy left Dale-Man drained of energy, and Dale-Man was defeated soon after. Dale-Man promptly returned to get revenge on Sammy by beating him into a pulp. Sammy then went to prison, where he was fed 3 meals a day. This was unacceptable to Dale-Man, so he broke into prison and beat Sammy up again. Of course, Dale-Man never got caught doing this. He seemed to have a unique ability to fly under the radar when things go down. Nowadays, whenever Dale-Man attacks a Malta base, he tells the agents he got the location from Sammy. Now Sammy gets beaten up in jail by other Malta, and Dale-Man has more reason to attack the Malta.

The Order of the Dragon's Heart

Early on in his super hero career, Dale-Man was offered membership in the group known as The Order of the Dragon's Heart. This was a somewhat new group and Dale-Man accepted the offer. Soon after this, the founder resigned from the group, leaving others to keep it alive. As more and more of the leadership left, the group died off. Eventually Dale-Man left the group, and he never looked back.

Danger Dale

Crey created a clone of Dale-Man in their Revenant Hero Project. Wanting to see how it stacked up against the original, they sent this clone to kill Dale-Man. On it's way to Dale-Man, the clone ran into a small group of Skulls, who beat it mercilessly. It turns out a Dale-Man clone would need several years of training to fully manifest it's abilities. Crey scientists felt it wasn't worth the effort, and abandoned cloning Dale-Man and focused on cloning heroes whose abilities would manifest immediately.

This would not be the end for the clone, however, as it survived the brutal attack when a kheldian bonded with it. The kheldian removed all of Crey's malicious programming, allowing the clone to have a mind of it's own. The clone knew he was a clone of Dale-Man, but had none of Dale-Man's memories. He decided to call himself Danger Dale in honor of his original. To this day, Dale-Man and Danger Dale have never met, and Dale-Man doesn't even know he has a clone out there.

Hamidon

As Dale-Man became more powerful, he left the minor threats to the weaker heroes, and focused his energies on the Hamidon. Dozens of the best heroes in the city gather to take out the creature when need be, and seemed to gain more power by it's defeat. Dale-Man eventually found this to be the only way to acquire more power, so with greedy intentions he took part in this fight.

Quest for Badges

As Dale-Man grew in power, he felt he deserved to be awarded for the things he did. That's when he found out badges were awarded to heroes for their achievements. He went out and took down any enemy, fought any threat, just to be awarded a badge. At times, new powers manifested themselves as he did this. This motivated him even more to protect the city and the world.

Inventor

No matter how irrelevant, Dale-Man will use considerable resources to gain a new skill. After spending days at Wentworths and the university, spending millions of influence, Dale-Man finally received a portable workstation, something only given to master craftsmen.

Death of a Dale-Man

When the Second Rikti Invasion happened, Dale-Man joined the fight in the Rikti War Zone. He joined several other heroes and raided the Rikti Mothership. They took down the ship defenses and detonated several bombs on the ship, prompting U'kon Gr'ai, the Rikti Master at Arms, to come out and fight. After a fierce battle, Gr'ai called for reinforcements. Several Magus's teleported in and focused all their mental attacks on Dale-Man. Dale-Man could not hold out against their mental powers, and all his natural shielding dropped. This left an opening for U'kon to attack. Pulling out his sword, U'kon made a quick slice right through the middle of Dale-Man, leaving him cut completely in half.

This loss strengthened the resolve of the other heroes, who then took Gr'ai down. While the raid was a success, the heroes were saddened by the loss of Dale-Man. They were also puzzled by why Dale-Man was singled out by all the Magus's. Things weren't adding up. Though he had never made his existence known to Dale-Man, Danger Dale wanted to find out why.

World Without a Dale-Man

Danger Dale attacked several Rikti bases, looking for information on Dale-Man's death. He eventually caught a break, as one commander revealed some interesting information. Dale-Man was seen in a meeting with Hro'Dtohz, the Supreme Commander of the Rikti Lineage of War.

"Why would Dale-Man meet with the Rikti, and what would this have to do with his death?" thought Danger. He then returned to Paragon for a bit and discovered Dale-Man's grave was opened, and the body was missing. Upset by this apparent grave-robbing, Danger did a bit more tracking, and eventually got a lead on Hro'Dtohz. He went to take out Hro'Dtohz and get information on his meeting with Dale-Man, but when he got there, he found the Rikti commander already defeated... by Dale-Man!

The Return of Dale-Man

Danger Dale finally introduced himself to Dale-Man, who seemed very interested in the fact that he had a clone. Dale-Man revealed he was working under-cover for the Vanguard and his death was staged to throw the Rikti off. Danger Dale couldn't make sense of how everything fell together, but Dale-Man assured him he didn't have to.

"At least this explains why the body was missing from the grave," Danger Dale said. Dale-Man seemed shocked by this, but quickly changed the subject.

"I'm still working under-cover, so I need you to keep this information to yourself," said Dale-Man. Danger Dale agreed. Dale-Man then took off, while Danger headed back to Paragon City, having had his fill of the Rikti War Zone.

Back in Paragon, Danger Dale was called upon to stop a bank robbery. When he confronted the leader of the robbery, he discovered it was an Arachnos Mu Soldier named Dale-Man. Danger chewed the villain out for disgracing a fallen hero, but the villain insisted that he was really Dale-Man, and had decided to go rogue. After a brief fight, "Mu Dale-Man" managed to escape with the money, leaving Danger perplexed.

Danger went to the Vanguard base to see if he could find any information on this new villain. He met a Sergeant who was also interested, and agreed to help. They discovered Mu Dale-Man was a recently recruited Arachnos Agent who learned to utilize the some of the powers of the Mu Mystics.

When asked why he was so interested, Danger told the Sergeant of his origin, revealing that he was a clone of Dale-Man. This caught the Sergeant by surprise, who then took off his helmet, showing a familiar face. He was Sergeant Dale Mann, better known as Dale-Man.

Dale and Danger monitored the police band until they got confirmation that Mu Dale-Man was striking again. They both went to the bank and managed to take him down and arrest him. Both Dale and Mu Dale-Man insisted they were the real Dale-Man, so a geneticist was brought in. The geneticist found that they were both a perfect genetic match for Dale-Man. Just then, Dale-Man walked in!

This Dale-Man revealed that he was actually an alternate universe version of Dale-Man. He then revealed to them that both Dale-Mans were real. When Dale-Man was cut in half, both halves regenerated, one into the heroic Dale, the other into the villainous Mu Dale-Man. Both lost their powers when this happened, which is why Dale has a rifle and armor, and why Mu Dale-Man needed to get new powers. The heroes began looking into how to combine the two back together when Mu Dale-Man escaped, not wanting to be recombined. Dale, Danger, and alternate Dale-Man chased him into an Arachnos base.

A huge battle took place. Finally, Dale and Mu Dale-Man went at it one on one in a room when a bomb went off, appearing to destroy both. Danger and alternate Dale-Man were saddened by this loss as they wondered where the bomb came from. Just then, out of the rubble, Dale-Man climbed out, both halves regenerated back into a whole. They celebrated, all were happy, when suddenly alternate Dale-Man attacked Dale-Man! Danger helped fight him off and he retreated, leaving the heroes wondering what just happened.

Crisis of Infinite Dale-Mans

Newly resurrected Dale-Man and Danger went to Portal Corp to scour the multiverse for alternate versions of Dale-Man. In their search they discovered almost every alternate version of Dale-Man was killed or missing. Doing some research, Dale-Man found some footage of one of their deaths. He was killed by the same alternate Dale-Man that attacked Dale-Man. The alternate Dale-Man then absorbed the powers of the Dale-Man he had just killed. The alternate Dale-Man was going around the multiverse killing alternate Dale-Mans and absorbing their power in his quest to become the Ultimate Dale-Man.

Dale-Man gathered all the living Dale-Mans in the known multiverse for one all-out attack on the Ultimate Dale-Man. He managed to find a pocket dimension where they could find the evil alternate. The Dale-Mans went in and found Ultimate Dale-Man waiting with a grin. He announced that they just made his job easier. He proceeded to attack and kill the many Dale-Mans, gaining power with each one. The battle went on for some time, until all the Dale-Mans were dead except for the one from Primal Earth.

Ultimate Dale-Man found killing Dale-Man very difficult because of his insane regeneration ability. Still, he found it possible to absorb a portion of Dale-Man's power as his body regenerated. Almost all of Dale-Man's power was absorbed when the universe began to shake. The pocket dimension was collapsing. While the battle was going on, Danger Dale was placing devices to implode the space. As the dimension collapsed, Danger grabbed Dale-Man and got out of there, leaving the Ultimate Dale-Man to his fate.

Crisis Aftermath

After the crisis, all the known alternate Dale-Mans are dead and Dale-Man has lost his powers. He gave up his career as a hero but found he could make a fortune selling enhancements to other heroes.

Still, he longed to be a hero again. After some intense training and a little luck, he discovered he could still use the Mu powers his evil half had attained. With these powers, an axe, and a jetpack, Dale-Man was back!

With his new fortune, Dale-Man formed Dale-Man Inc, a Supergroup to match his ego. He let a number of heroes join, such as Danger Dale, Zaptro, Full Shell, and Louis Walker. He also let some questionable characters in, such as Arbiter Makino, Macintyre, and Daleman (an alternate version who avoided the Crisis of Infinite Dale-Mans). He even let in a full-on villain bent on world domination named Dr. Braininajar. He assures everyone the doctor is harmless, but the public think it's nuts having him around.

Another member who joined recently is Dale-Man (II). He is a time displaced copy of Dale-Man from the past who showed up just after Galaxy City's destruction. Dale-Man figures having two of himself around is good and brought him into the group.

The Quest For More Power

In his, ahem... quest for more power, Dale-Man went to Ouroborous and met with Mender Ramiel, who put him on the path toward becoming an Incarnate. As Dale-Man's incarnate abilities grew, his original powers started to return. He became more powerful then ever, which is good, because another powerful being named Prometheus warned him of The Coming Storm.
