Glimmer
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe

Glimmer has been called many things in her life. Her mother would say she was stubborn. Her father would say she was determined. Alley Cat would say she is dependable. She has been called everything from stoic or beautiful, to flashy and over-the-top. But the one thing Glimmer hopes everyone sees when they meet her, is her genuine concern for others.
When she left her mother and people, it was because she was concerned for their future. When she met Alley Cat and fought at her side, it was because she cared about their friendship. When she joined the Sentry and battled with the villains of Paragon, it was because she cared for the future of the planet. Even when she took leave of the Sentry and all her friends, it was because she cared enough about them, not to let them follow her down a dark path. Very little she does isn't about her concern for others.
And while there are plenty of other aspects to her personality, good and bad, the one thing Glimmer always does, is care.
Even though Glimmer’s skills are significantly less powerful than they were on her home planet, she is still a very formidable hero. Drawing from the moon’s power, Glimmer can create light based illusions that have a wide variety of abilities. She also has empathic capabilities that she has honed to help and aid those who fight along side of her. Add the psionic mastery she has developed and Glimmer can hold her own against most foes.
Glimmer has learned to focus her light into many forms. The most common use is that of her Phantasm, a light based entity that she can create to help her in times of danger. The phantasm is bound to her and will help her in any way it can, including creating another phantasm to assist.
Glimmer also creates more solid forms of light. She demonstrates this as she can conjure a phantom army that is indestructible in battle. These phantoms have a varying array of powers themselves including fire and ice damage.
Other than these abilities, Glimmer can use her light to bend around her, making her invisible to the human eye. She can manipulate light in her foes minds so they believe they are blind, in pain, even fight their own friends. Using light, Glimmer has even been able to teleport her friends to her side when needed.
Of Glimmer’s empathic abilities, she has been able to aid her fellow allies in battle in multiple ways. Along with transferring her enemies energy and strength back into her and her fellow heroes, she can drain them of their power and boost those of her comrades. She can make her friends run faster, increase their density, and even heal their wounds.
Once she joined the Sentry, Glimmer worked with fellow member Orioson, and was able to develop a mastery over her psionic abilities. With complete control of her mind, she can now create a psionic tornado or mental blasts of energy. She can even project her astral form if she is physically unavailable to help.
THE VISIONAIRA:
Bright Star was once a small planet that orbited near Saturn. On this little planet lived the people known as the Visionaira, a humble race that was able to pull from the energies of the many surrounding moons which gave them the ability to cloak the planet from the outside universe. The Visionaira were quiet and peaceful and were ruled by the King and Queen, known as the Visionairi and Visionairess. Under their rule, the people of Bright Star were happy. They had learned to hone their powers over light and illusion and created an amazing metropolis that was beyond human imagination.
The royal family wasn’t made up of just the king and queen however; they had two daughters as well. Glimmer was their oldest and heir to the throne. Prism was their youngest, and a handful at that. The Visionairi, Auroran, made sure he trained Glimmer in the use of her powers, knowing that the planets concealment would not hold forever and they had to be prepared to deal with the harsh realities of other races. It was at the age of 20 that Glimmer found out just how harsh it could be.
THE INVASION:
Although it was unknown to them at the time, a different race had found a way to see the planet and realized the untapped potential that the Visionaira people had at their command. It was then that the alien race known as the Abys M'al would send out one of their most vicious captains to retrieve these people and learn to harness their powers over light, hoping it would help them in their conquest of the universe. The captain was known as Smokyn M'rror and he was brutal. He gathered his forces and without warning to the Visionaira, he attacked with such force that the entire planet started to crack. While the king rallied his army to fight back, the queen and her daughters shuttled as many of the Visionaira away from the doomed planet. Only a few hundred got away in time. Thousands of people were killed and left on the planet as it was destroyed by Smokyn M'rror and his army of soldiers. King Auroran stayed behind and lost his life defending Bright Star. The Visionairess took the remaining people and hid from Smokyn M'rror on a large astroid until the war was over. Smokyn M'rror had destroyed Bright Star and any chance he had of claiming it’s inhabitants. He was left searching for the remaining survivors for years.
THE SEARCH FOR A NEW HOME:
On the astroid, The Visionairess took command of the people and set in motion a plan to find a new home. She instructed her strongest men that had come with them to go out searching for a new planet that they could live on and create a new world for themselves. Glimmer was not content waiting helplessly and she insisted that she, too, would go out and find their new “home.” Although the Visionairess did not find this idea to be a good one, Glimmer was not someone who would back down. So at the age of 20, Glimmer went out into the universe and searched for another planet that would be able to serve as a safe haven for her people. Little did she know that her sister, Prism, would soon follow.
After a year of searching, Glimmer came across the planet Earth and found her way to Paragon City. It was here that she saw some of the great heroes of the planet and saw it’s potential for her people. However, before she was able to bring the Visionaira to the planet, she felt she should get accustomed to the people and the evils that they had to overcome. When she witnessed a Rikti invasion in Paragon, she knew it may not be safe, but the anger she had at the loss of her father to a wretched race, made her decide to stay and fight.
LIFE AS A HERO:
Having only the one moon from this planet to draw power from, Glimmer found herself weaker than she had been accustomed to. For years, she fought alongside many heroes while she tried to find new strength, it wasn’t until she met Alley Cat that she found her first true friend. Together, they helped each other grow as heroes and battled many foes in Paragon. It was the first time she felt like she belonged.
Having witnessed many incredible feats from varying heroes, it was when she met Knight Sentinel of the Palladium Sentry that she saw someone with ideals that were parallel to her own. When he offered her and Alley Cat a place in the group, she finally found focus and was able to see a future for her people. When her sister suddenly made her appearance known on Earth, Glimmer quickly brought her into the Sentry and has been watching over her ever since.
Since joining the Sentry, she has faced many powerful foes such as Lord Recluse, Victor Van Braun, Turbushido, the Circle of Thorns and Red Moon. The battles have been difficult and many people have been lost; but Glimmer had never given up hope. Orioson, a fellow Sentry member, saw a potential in Glimmer and helped her gain control over a psionic ability she never knew she had. It was the beginning of a new era for Glimmer as she grew in strength and power. Her sister, Prism, was now going by Power Prism, feeling she was always walking in Glimmer’s shadow. With the help of Matt King, Power Prism also grew in strength, and in turn, Glimmer and Matt grew closer as well, with a relationship adding more depth to her life on earth. Glimmer also took on a more motherly role when she met Side-Shift, a fellow hero from the New Age Mutants who had a talent for getting into trouble. With all these new friends and allies, Glimmer had finally found what she was searching for.
THE DARK YEARS:
Unfortunately, times got tougher, the villains became more lethal and Glimmer's life was turned upside down.
First, Turbushido attacked the Sentry and nearly killed Side-Shift during the battle, though Glimmer had sworn to protect her, she wasn't fast enough to help.
Soon after, It was discovered that Glimmer was taken prisoner alongside another member of the Sentry, Brisingamen, and replaced with duplicates, known as Dreamweavers. The Sentry was unaware of the dopplegangers posing as them, but in the end, many were hurt and Glimmer felt responsible. When they were finally rescued, Glimmer’s faith began to waiver.
When Alley Cat had to hang up her cape, as dire matters at home took her away from the Sentry. Glimmer's best friend was gone.
Soon after, Victor Van Braun ushered in a more powerful Red Moon than the Sentry had ever seen, the team, who had been taken to another dimension, had to witness Knight Sentinel’s wife, Moon Dancer‘s, murder. She was pregnant at the time. Knight Sentinel ran off into the dimension as the Sentry was brought back to Earth. Knight Sentinel was left behind.
It was then that Glimmer changed.
Having seen the horrors of reality, Glimmer began to lose sight in what she had believed in. Her friendships with Knight Sentinel, American Avenger, Side-Shift, and her romance with Matt King, all seemed empty now. The ongoing fight against evil wore thin and she began to wonder if it was worth it. Trying to bury these feelings, Glimmer went off in search of Knight Sentinel. Glimmer began her search with the Circle of Thorns. Having lost her faith in being a hero, the road Glimmer took became a dark one. While her anger grew, her appearance became darker and her methods began to cross a line. She traveled from dimension to dimension, hoping she would find a clue in the minds of the Thorns who had unlimited knowledge of the arcane. As she ripped through the minds of countless members of the Circle, she saw what her anger was doing to her. She realized then, that she had to take a leave from the Sentry and find a way out of the mess she had started.
Since then, the Circle of Thorns turned their attention on Glimmer and found a way to capture her. The Circle used their most powerful magic to contain Glimmer in a arcane prison that incapacitated her. All Glimmer could do, unknown to the Circle, is project her astral form back to earth, where she could make ammends for her actions and make up for leaving the team when they needed her the most. She had no idea where they Circle of Thorns was holding her body, but with all of her power focused on her astral form, she was able to maintain the form with all her abilities and start over, hoping it wasn’t too late to be the hero she was meant to be. However, Glimmer's astral form disappeared and her friends realize that the Circle of Thorns must be doing something to her human form that prevents her from projecting herself to Paragon.
THE VISIONAIRESS: (AE missions: End of a Visionaira pt. 1,2, & 3)
With her astral form gone and her physical body still with the Circle of Thorns, Glimmer's mother, the Visionairess, decided to come to earth and find her daughter and return her to her people. Power Prism, while happy to see her mom, was worried about her and asked the Sentry to help the Visionairess in her search. Matt King and some others went to the Circle of Thorns temple with the Visionairess and found the location the Circle was keeping Glimmer at. Once they located the caves, they found and rescued Glimmer, but found a power crystal that both Glimmer and the Visionairess recognized as a beacon used by the Abys M'al.
When Matt, Glimmer and the others tried to destroy it, the Abys M'al ambushed them and revealed that they had given the beacon to the Circle of Thorns as a ruse to locate Glimmer. Furious at what they had done, The Visionairess rushed off to the Obsidian Caves which the Abys M'al used as a haven near earth.
Concerned for her mother, Glimmer and Matt went to the Obsidian Caves and fought their way thru numerous Abys M'al only to discover the horrifying truth. Smokyn M'rror had captured the Visionairess and killed her. Through her anger and with the help of Matt, Glimmer defeated Smokyn M'rror and the rest of the Abys M'al that were in the caves.
THE VISIONAIRESS pt.2:
With the death of Glimmer's mom, Glimmer was now heir to the throne and was the new Visionairess. Wanting to do right by her people, Glimmer returned to the Visionaira and brought them back to Earth, no longer wanting to hide. The Abys M'al were not gone, and Glimmer realized that the heroes of Earth and her friends in the Palladium Sentry would help against any further attacks that may be down the road for her people.
Since the journey back to Earth, Glimmer has spread her people around Paragon, some leading normal lives, while others choosing to fight alongside other heroes. The Sentry has welcomed Glimmer back into its ranks with open arms and she continues to aid them in their quest to move for all mankind as well as lead her people through this new chapter in their lives. Glimmer is now known as The Visionairess.
