BASIC PREMISE
A 'mad' scientist uses his new medical findings to produce cancerous slaves, then uses their powers to commit crimes and other villainy.
BACKGROUND
Scientist
Doctor Roland Green, was an ambitious young geneticist with a special interest in the specialized behavior of cancer cells. He grew up in Connecticut, and was the middle-child of a large wealthy family. His research was brilliant, but his personality was obsessive and his social skills were severely lacking.
He decoded the programming within 4 primary mismatched repair genes, and was able to mutate the gene's behavior via specialized radiation treatment. He had hoped such research would lead to a cure for HNPCC-related cancers.
However, his radiation doses were so severe, that no patient could surive the mutation therapy without massive deterioration of the skin, bone and muscle tissue. Due to the extreme nature of his research, his application for numerous grants to the National Cancer Institute was rejected. To make matters worse, he became so obsessed with his 'cure' that he was eventually fired from his job at the Mayo Clinic.
Angry at his fate, and determined to see his research through, he spent his inhertance building a complex laboratory and began a manic phase of research and discovery.
Temporal Statis of Cancer
Doctor Green had a major breakthrough, when he spent a vast fortune on Rikti technology, by hiring Chaos Red and Loca to steal temporal stasis equipment.
Through a genius methodology, he was able to modify the equipment to keep cancer cells temporal stasis, and as such, tumor cells no longer reproduced to invade the entire body. Alas, despite the fact the new tumor cells no longer divided and grew, they continued to mutate, and often an at an alarming rate.
Despite this obvious warning, he continued with his research, and eventually realized he'd need living human subjects with which to advance his technology.
Alternative Medicine Scam
Doctor Green needed human subjects to continue his research. He began to advertise a bold cancer breakthrough in alternative medicine journals and web sites. He boldly claimed he had a new treatment for invasive cancer cells, and solicited desperate patients to try his new alternative method of treatment.
The ad was a smash success, as gullible cancer victims put their faith in "alternate" medicine and willingly volunteered to undergo Doctor Green's treatment.
Green's primary patient was named Arthur Frehley, born in 1976 and diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. He came known as 'Patient AF-1976' in Green's journals. Arthur began to show massive signs of deterioration as the cancer cells modified by Rikti technology began to mutate in his body. Also with each stage of the rapid mutation, Arthur became more emotionally submissive, and at the same time became physically stronger.
Green began experimenting with specific mutations, setting the temporal shifts backward when there was regression in the patients power or mutation.
After six months of this process, Arthur was unrecognizable physically, deteriorated so badly from the radiation and cancer he appeared like a zombie, or undead. However Arthur was also physically quite strong, and was extrememly violent. Doctor Green found he could command Arthur to commit any violent act, and had the strength of a weight lifter.
Arthur was submissive to the point, that he was virtually Green's slave, and his physical strength so impressive he could lift heavy lab equipment.
The Zombie Horde
Doctor Green was so impressed with the results with Patient AF-1976, he began recruiting other patients. In time, a small "horde" of patients infected with mutated/temporally shifted cancer cells began to develop.
Feeling his work was revolutionary, he took his results to Doctor North a psychiatrist who had offered to help Roland Green (during his mental collapse when he lost his job at the Mayo Clinic). Alas, North not only rejected his research, he had prosecutors indict him for violating several medical ethic codes. North called Doctor Green a 'fiend', and pleaded with Green to turn himself in.
Green angry at North's rejection, fled before he could be arrested, (and destroyed his laboratory in the process). He then injected himself with blood tainted with living cancer cells, in hopes the cells could metastacize and he himself could know extraordinary powers.
He took on a life of crime, using his patients as a "zombie horde" and commanding his patients to rob banks, steal valuables and commit other crimes. In order to mock Doctor North's indictment of him, he began to call himself: the Green Fiend.
Now the Green Fiend wonders Paragon City and the Rogue Isles with his horde of cancerous mutant zombies. Beware! The Green Fiend might be coming after you next!
