High-Point
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Early Life
Scott Carnell enjoyed a relatively normal upbringing in the small town of Burnsville, Minnesota. He was a capable student, though never exceptional, and was lucky enough to have a solid circle of friends. He was a gifted athlete, however; winning local and state championships at fifteen, and quickly becoming "that guy"; the one who never lost, who got the medal, who you read about.
Upon graduation, it was expected that Scott would accept a scholarship to a prestigious University somewhere within the greater USA... but to everyone's surprise, he immediately signed up for military service. All his hard work, all of his training, had been in pursuit of a private ambition; to be a hero, like he saw on TV. Scott had nurtured this ambition from his earliest years; watching the exploits of legendary figures such as Xanatos and The Imperial, he would marvel at their courage, dedication and humility. Scott knew he'd never be like them; he couldn't fly, couldn't shoot fire from his eyes or lift a semi one-handed. What he could do was work obsessively to be the best that he could be. So it was, that at the tender age of 16, Scott Carnell walked into a recruitment office, signed his date of birth as one year earlier than it actually was, and left home to fight the good fight.
Military Career
Throughout his time with the military, and even to this day, Scott's illegal enlistment was never discovered. He started his training with the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson. Within a few days, however, it became clear that he outclassed every single soldier on base; recruits, veterans and officers alike. Despite his young age, Scott could outrun, outshoot and outfight anyone sent against him, but he did so with such good nature that the other men couldn't resent his skill. It came as little suprise to anyone when, after blowing away the competition during an inter-Divisional track event, Scott was pulled from the ranks of conventional soldiery and offered something special.
He was approached by a man in a nondescript black suit. Naming himself only as an agent of Government, he offered Scott the job of his dreams; travelling the world, using his abilities to defeat enemies that would be immune to conventional military actions. It would be off the record; the targets he would be given would be either too secure, or too politically problematic for a routine military strike, but the agent assured him that this was how Scott could make a difference in the world.
The next ten years are not well documented. What is known is that Scott left to serve with the Outfit as a young, vibrant and idealistic recruit. When he reappeared in the US, aged 26, he was tanned, worn, and disenfranchised with the idea of government service. He resigned his post, and left the Army for good. He would never return.
Life In Paragon
Scott has now been living in Paragon City for a little over two months. He spends his days sucking down bottles of beer in the city's clubs and bars, and his nights shutting down street crime in King's Row and Independence Port as the masked crimefighter "High Point". It seemed to the few observers who cared that he had no drive for anything more; another rising star brought down to Earth by the realities of a cruel world.
Recently, though, he has been offered a ray of hope. Approached by the hero Blast Cycle, member of the world-famous superteam The Challengers, for a new project with the Grey Watch. Blast Cycle is currently heading this street-level crimefighting crew as interim leader, and appears to have information on High-Point that he should not, in theory, have access to.
Allies
- The Grey Watch
- Blast Cycle - Joe recruited Scott into the Grey Watch, and has been the first person in his whole life who doesn't appear to have an ulterior motive for being friendly. Rough, experienced, and bald. He's pretty hardcore.
- Amplifye - Scott realised quickly that there are worse places to be in Paragon City than two paces behind Devve Burgis when she walks down the street. Jailbait with an ass-kicking attitude, and a cast-iron moral compass.
- Switchkick - "Slick". Young. Skilled. Attempts to be authoritative. He's work the effort; Travis is a ferociously skilled fighter, and has the makings of a great hero in him.
- Evesight - Scott met Heidi while looking into a murder in King's Row. She literally sees in her nightmares the crimes of tomorrow; a handy trait in a homicide detective. He's brought her into the Watch himself, seeing her abilities as another arrow in their quiver.
- Chloromelt - Scott first coined the phrase "Pyrobotanist" when describing Victor's powerset. He quite likes the big Texan, although he doesn't seem to say much.
- Quickline - Scott's quickly developing a thick skin against the constant stream of bullshit spouted by the speedster. Time will tell if he's got what it takes to hold him temper with him.
- Divinae - Scott and Blast Cycle were first on site when this cross-dimensional refugee arrived in our reality. Together, they recognised her for what she was, and welcomed her to her new home with the rest of the team.
- Silent-Sniper - Kleist is a worrying man. A killer, certainly. A military veteran, though, too. Scott has seen men go to war, but suspects that a large part of Kleist never came back. He wants to help him, maybe to rehabilitate the sociopathic vigilante, however much the Sniper's methods may sicken everyone else.
- Xanatos - Quite literally, Scotts childhood hero. The archetypical hero, Xanatos has saved the world more often than anyone can remember. Scott freaked out when he saw Xanatos relaxing in the same bar as him- he now takes every opportunity to listen to the old hero's wisdom.
- Foxy Ferret - Foxy reached out to Scott after the Grey Watch supported The Challengers in battle against the villain Phanto. Realising that Scott was feeling out of his depth, she really settled him down with a long talk on Talos Island boardwalk. A real nice lady.
- Super Bass - Scott has volunteered a few archery classes to the kids at Layla's Founders Fall orphanage. In part, because he's a nice guy, but in part because he's kinda sweet on her. Not an unusual situation among men meeting the vibrant haired chick!
