Plot
The Offer After weeks of darkness due to the events of Halloween, and then Salamanca's Mayor's refusal of Juvie's help, Juvie had had it with MAGI, Azuria, and the supernatural in general. Magic made him feel powerless, unwelcome, paranoid, and quite frankly, it creeped him out! However Azuria wouldn't take no for an answer when she asked Juvie to investigate The Circle of Thorns connections with Oranbegan Crystals. She told him, "I'm only a messenger of destiny, not its maker," and that she "foresaw" his involvement in this investigation. As a sweetener, she told Juvie that she would donate the tools and spells needed to consecrate a room in The Artful Dodgers' base so that they could use it for magic research. Juvie couldn't resist this offer, as many of the teens in the group complained that they needed space to work with magic.
The Premonition Little did Juvie know that Azuira was more than a mere messenger of his destiny, but someone who needed to manipulate it for the greater good. Azuira saw more in Juvie's future than she let on, for she had been following the development of Woe's Child's new persona with great interest. Azuria could see something lurking in Woe, something evil, something hidden, and something that threatened all of Paragon. In this dark future, only Juvie stood out amidst turmoil, a sword in one hand, a gem in the other, and decision that would end in death and destruction if not manipulated.
The Investigation Juvie began hunting The Circle of Thorns, from the roof tops of Kings Row to the caves of Perez Park . Every step lead deeper into The Circle of Thorn's secret world below Paragon. Demons, ghosts, mystics, and madness waited around every corner. With each encounter, Juvie found another green crystal of power. Then, deep within an Oranbega Temple, Juvie grabbed the robe of a defeated Mystic and demanded to know why the crystals were so important. With bruised and bloody lips, the Sorcerer replied, "The Crystals are nothing. The Gem is all!"
Brick walls and Dead Ends Juvie's clues once again dead-ended in Dark Astoria. When he returned to The Basement, he encountered another brick wall when researching the crystals. They were filled with raw life force, but whose? And what about the Gem the Mystic hinted at? No where in his studies did he see them mentioned. Where to go from here?
Staring Into the Abyss With no other lead, Juvie decided to follow the cold trail of his last clue. He began to patrol the cursed neighborhoods of Dark Astoria, watching the gates, tracking of the movements of The Banished Pantheon, and getting to know these gloom-filled streets as well as his own neighborhood. Days stretched into weeks, and still no new lead. Then, Juvie began to fill ill. A cold? Juvie hadn't had a cold since his mutant powers began to show. Along with the cold, those feelings of being watched came back. Sick and paranoid, Juvie abandoned his patrol and sought his friends for company.
Woe Wipes Out! Sick and tired, Juvie arrived at The Basement just in time to help The Artful Dodgers face a threat from The Freakshow. Crimson Muse had taken over leading The Artful Dodgers, and directed every step of the battle to perfection. Then chaos hit! An entire room of Freakshow descended upon them and for no apparent reason, a team whip occurred. After the mission, Princess Powerfull confided in Juvie that she thought she saw that Woe's Child had intentionally buffed The Freaks. He was using his powers against "The Dodgers!" Juvie went to confront Woe with this information, but he had disappeared into Dark Astoria. Frustrated, angry, and betrayed, Juvie entered the dark town looking for trouble. Any trouble!
Temper He knew he was being watched, whether from Woe's Child hiding somewhere in the shadows, or by some as yet undiscovered source, Juvie didn't know, and this pissed him off! Juvie decided to show his invisible audience just what to expect if he ever caught up with them. He stormed onto the zombie infested streets and just cut loose! Claws flaring, anger rising, foe after foe fell before him. Then, something strange happened, he felt good. Really good! The angrier he became, the better he felt! Then, his anger and frustration exploded into a vivid memory of that fateful day when he hunted down Clyde and killed him! Juvie realized, deep down, he had enjoyed it! Striking out to hurt Clyde! Juvie stopped his attacks on the Zombies, his claws retracted, he began to cry, and then, blacked out.
Something Darker then Astoria Juvie awoke, with shaking hands. Looking down at them, his fists smoldered like a cigarette, tendrils of dark magic wisping from his knuckles. Looking behind him, he saw a trail of bodies that seemed to stretch forever. The last thing he remembered was crying on Poe Ave, and now he was on the corner of Barker and Stroke! That was fifteen blocks and hundreds of Zombies! What had he done? He'd lost complete control! What would have happened if this had been Kings Row, and he had been fighting Skulls? And what the hell is happening to his fists? Juvie looked again at his hands, they now appeared normal. Juvie turned and ran from Dark Astoria, as Clyde's memory swelled before his eyes. High above, Woe's Child watched Juvie run from the scene, then began to plan.
