Kaleiope
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Kaleiope is a nineteen-year-old mage, raised in a secret cabal of the First Order of Magic, direct descendants of Merlin. She has registered as a hero of Paragon City against the wishes of her Order, but it has been permitted so she may further apply her magical knowledge in a wider environment. Kal is a calm-headed young lady with an old soul, and wisdom beyond her years. Her studious nature can make her seem cold or distant, but her loyalty and value for friendship is uncompromising. Her current guardian is Promecliastes, a presiding Archmagi of the First Order under whom she apprenticed, though she has not seen him in years.

In-game Biography
Kaleiope is an enigmatic young lady, raised deep underground by a secret cabal of mages. Yearning for a real life, the archmagi agreed to let Kaleiope move to the surface.
Booksmart and shy, Kaleiope continued her studies, devoting herself more to magic than anything else, including friendships. This all changed when she was accepted amongst other super teens, and built some very strong bonds. But when she became possessed by a demon in a summoning spell gone wrong, she disappeared for a very long time.
Now back and quirkier than ever, Kal is trying hard to pick up where she left off. Her magic is highly potent from spending so much time in otherworldly places, but her only concern is to try and find fragments of a normal life.
Affiliations
Kaleiope has recently rejoined the Teen Phalanx, but is not currently holding a leadership position, and is not in active duty.

Personality
Kaleiope is an impulsive and experimental go-getter, often willing to try things she, or anybody, has never done before. She can be easily thrown off, however, when things do not go as planned. While normally calm and level-headed emotionally, she can allow her curiosity to frustrate her, and will act very peculiar if flustered.
Though sheltered from the surface world in her youth, she is very quick to adapt. She has taken heroism very seriously, and is not afraid to venture into the unknown. Unlike many mages from her cabals, she is not reluctant to use technology. Though she does tend to misunderstand how technology functions, treating it almost as another form of magic unfamiliar to her.
She possesses strong leadership qualities, and a knack for getting the job done. Very close to her teammates, Kal values friendship as much as family, because it's the closest to it she's ever had.
Recently, Kaleiope has taken on Sugar n' Spice as her unofficial ward, watching over the younger hero with a caution she rarely exercises for herself.
Storylines
2007
Finally comfortable with using her magical abilities to help defend Paragon City, Kaleiope's attention is now divided on discovering the identity of her missing parents, the story of how she came to be discovered by her mystical cabal and Archmagi Promecliastes, and her real birth-given name. Those working closely with Kaleiope have witnessed her pining over old tomes and records, and sleeplessly scouring the city when not on active patrol duty. Still not familiar with computers, she has often requisitioned help from some of her allies to track down leads she has uncovered.
It is a common and unified suspicion that her captors were associated with the Circle of Thorns, as their victims are frequently recovered by the Order of Magi to which Kaleiope belongs. Promecliastes has hinted to confirmations of this, but is bound by his Order to a level of secrecy, until Kaleiope has completed her apprenticeship. This drives her to work even harder at fulfilling her training, and uncover the truth.
When the Teen Phalanx comes under scrutiny by the Freedom Corps, Kaleiope retreats north to Salamanca where she lays low and focuses once again on her magical studies. It is at this point when she meets the Cabal, and after a show of power, is invited into their ranks. At first, Kaleiope treats this as an undercover operation, and seeks to infiltrate the Cabal to learn more about their presence in Croatoa. However, spending time amongst the witches has weathered her opinion on the Cabal, and she finds herself finally belonging with others like her. With the lines of allegiance blurred, she finds herself led more and more astray.
With her time now spread thin between the Cabal of Croatoa, the Teen Phalanx and her Archmagi, Kaleiope has suffered undue strain with her fight over her own identity. This stress finally boils over once she discovers how to summon fire demons from another plane of existence, and is then taken over by an infernal demon. Now possessing this demonic spirit inside her, she has to fight to keep it subdued, and does not always succeed. The creature has no name, but when conjoined with Kaleiope's body, has come to identify itself as "Lhox".
2008
Kaleiope suffers a split life with the demon Lhox inhabiting her body, fighting a constant battle of consciousness and control over her own body. When Lhox wins these struggles, Kal's body is violently transformed into Lhox, who uses it as an instrument for its diabolical plans on Earth. Because of this struggle, Kaleiope goes into seclusion once more to focus on containing the demon, and protecting her friends.
Eventually, Kaleiope decides that the only way to rid herself of her host is to actually enter the dimensional plane Lhox is from, and confine herself there. Lhox revolts by punishing Kaleiope, putting her through torturous ordeals. Kal holds steadfast and locks away her mind, protecting her consiousness and leaving her body a useless weight. Lhox eventually grows bored as its rage turns to futile frustration, and abandons Kaleiope. With the help of the imps of this realm, Kaleiope is spirited away to her own dimension, leaving Lhox behind. She is now free of the demon, though she is certain the beast is more than eager to follow her through back to Earth someday.
Kaleiope's long disappearance has left her lost and disconnected to Paragon City. Unable to repair or rekindle her past alliances, she decides to take her return as an opportunity for rebirth. She focuses once again on her magical proficiency, and studies safer ways to perform her magic. Older, wiser and more experienced, she reinstates her registered hero status, and goes back to work for M.A.G.I.
2009
Kaleiope has returned to the streets with a new found desire to assist and defend her fellow heroes. She's finding new friends and applying her magic skills to advance the greater good. She continues to keep an eye open for her vengeful nemesis, Lhox, but is mostly convinced she is safe for the time being. Upon becoming active once again, found Insulator and BrandX, and rejoined the Teen Phalanx.
Magical Abilities
The Magic of the First Order is very primal and efficient. Kaleiope specializes in four very specific fields: Pyromagery - the ability to control and shape fire, Summoning - to call upon creatures from other realms or planes, Impetimetrics - the technique of creating barriers, Rifting - to transport between dimensions and space. Recently her powers have become more potent and volatile, she has learned Psiomagery, the technique of mind interference.
