Affiliations
None. Maddy is currently a student at P.C.C. She is also, essentially homeless; but well taken care of as she's been house sitting for Linus Red while he was gone..
Bluesiders:
- Taran McAllister - Her former lover, and one time hero corps mentor, Taran was a skilled martial artist. After being kidnapped by the council, he joined with the Nictus Kyriakos, becoming Strikeshadow - The blend of Taran and Kyriakos. Unable to lie to herself or what remained of him and continue a relationship with someone who was gone, Madeline has recently parted ways with Strike.
- Linus Red - An eccentric bartender in Pocket D, also helping in the fight against the Council, among others.
- Cole Snap - A young hero with the ability to sap heat and create ice, after they "cured" his amnesia he went rather distant and then vanished for a while.
- Tetsuryou - An able fighter who has symbiotically bonded to a mysterious suit of armor.
- Grifolken - An ancient elven mystic who was trying to teach Maddy the ways of magic. Maddy left the Underwold Legion after his behavior became more than a little creepy yet distant.
- The Cobalt Streak - A friend of Tetsuryou, Cobalt goes over well at beach parties.
- Enduring Victory - A young woman who Madeline briefly mentored.
Redsiders:
- Galaxy Archon Kyriakos - The other Dimensional double of Strikeshadow, Maddy and he tend to be rather cat and mouse. If he has to hear her say the word "fate" ever again, it'll be too soon. But, who can argue with the inevitable... or the irony.
- Tanshin : A mysterious ninja, the last of his clan. He continues to interfere in Madeline's life, insisting it's for her own well being. Doing so hasn't exactly endeared him to anyone.
- Beautiful Garbage : Haruki. Tanshin's niece, pretty hip for a Ninja.
- Luna Firebreather : A young woman escaped from the Zig, who seemed more upset about Maddie being cursed than she was herself...
- Winston Faversham : A brit with a strange magical aura and lots of hired soldiers. He doesn't answer his own phone, ever; and he doesn't answer to Winz...
- Deadsky : A "friend" of Iggy's, Deadsky didn't take long to rub Maddy the wrong way.
- Lyo Xion : Madeline's younger brother, also targeted by Tanshin. When he comes up, she usually squeals about her "cute younger brother".
Personality
Maddie typically comes across as straightforward and open with her feelings. She's an open book, if she's happy, she laughs, if she's angry she yells. When she's hurt, she'll cry freely in front of strangers; but she hates burdening her friends with her own pain and failings more than anything. She hates authority, stereotyping most "adults" as people who interfere in your own wellbeing simply because they can. Typically rash and impulsive, most people would be shocked to learn that the girl has an intensely academic side as well.
Character History
Backstory
Madeline Xion was born in the Isles, to exiles. Her mother, the Sapphire Witch had once been one of the top sages in the M.A.G.I.. Sappire had served paragon city well, even helping to imprison the Demon Xion within the body of his latest victem, trapping him on earth. However, as time passed, she became bitter about all the problems caused by humans getting a hold of magical artifacts they couldn't control. Her breaking point came one day, and she attacked several young M.A.G.I. applicants who had artifact based powers. As punishment her powers were sealed by magic. Unable to avenge herself, or to fight crime, she fled into exile in the isles. Once there, she met up with the Demon she'd imprisoned, now calling himself the Dark Xion. Their unsteady alliance slowly grew into a genuine fondness for each other, eventually leading to Madeline and Lyonis being born. Sapphire feared for her children's safty in the Isles, so she sent both of them in secret to boarding schools in Paragon City. Even though her family had enemies in both places, Sapphire understood that many of her enemies blue side would still protect her daughter. After several failed attempts to retrieve his children by force, Dark Xion was convinced that they would be safe in Paragon City. Since then, Madeline has grown up in boarding schools and the occasional exchange family, rarely knowing where her parents are, and seeing them almost never. To the M.A.G.I. sages it soon became clear that Madeline had inherited both her parent's mystic powers, and the seals keeping them from being used. She is a living, breathing prison to her parents as long as those seals remain intact. As they weaken, though, so do the spells restraining her parents, and so does Madeline's control over her own soul.
Past Events
After finishing high school, Madeline enrolled in classes at the university, and applied for her Hero Corps badge. Unfortunately, hero corps noticed that she had a habit of hunting down arcane gang members and brining them down by whatever means necessary dating back to middle school. After much consideration, they gave her a badge, on the condition that she would also have a mentor to report back to. The assigned mentor was Taran McAllister, he seemed more surprised to have been chosen as a mentor than she was to be assigned one. Madeline worked with him reluctantly at first, although an implied link between the Nictus and the Circle of Thorns sparked her interest in their jobs. It was Taran who brought Maddie to Pocket D one night, he needed to hash out some leads with Linus Red, and Madeline needed a safer place to blow off steam. Madeline, though nervous at first; soon fell into her element at the interdimensional night club, sharing drinks with villians. That, unfortunately, was how she met Tanshin, and how she became cursed. The Rogue Isles Ninja felt that a girl her age, with her apparant complete lack of self control, did not need the situation exacerbated by alcohol. With one focused strike, he rewired her energy so that she can not drink without being instantly, horribly sick. While that curse has been removed, they have remained enemies.
Current Story
Her friends were gone. Her boyfriend was essentially dead. Her best friend was a ghost, with no intentions of trying to remain. When everyone around you has lost faith, left, or died, what is there left to fight for? And so, when Maddy recieved a job offer working security for Magi, at the smithsonian, she agreed to take the job on a semi permanent basis.
Powers
Maddy is the hybridized child of a fallen angel and a human. Her powers are magical in nature; the ability to channel an otherworldly darkness, an inhuman metabolism, flight; all part of her heritage. More subtly, she's inherited a certain sort of physical and vocal expressiveness from her father; making her quite convincing when she chooses to be.
Vulnerabilities
Madeline's impulsiveness and temper tend to lead her into fights she can't win, and situations she can't handle. This happens both in combat and socially. Unfortunately she's obstinate as well, so, once mired into a losing battle she's usually too stubborn to retreat. As a fighter, she heals quickly, so she doesn't often take steps to protect her self from being damaged. Mentally and physically she still takes almost no steps to protect herself, instead attacking all out and trusting her metabolism to heal her before she's defeated.
Rogue Gallery
- The Council - They kidnapped the man she loved, tortured him, and then accidentally infected him with a Nictus, permanently altering his personality. What's NOT to hate about them?
- People who follow orders or authority blindly, never questioning why they've been given those orders...
- Tanshin - A ninja from the Rogue Isles who put a foul curse on her and has now compounded matters by breaking the magical gauntlets she was using to seal her powers. He insists Madeline needs to live up to her heritage, while Madeline has always wanted nothing more than to pass as a human witch. Tanshin has recently revealed that his family was assigned to raise Madeline and her brother, preparing them for their destiny, which he claims is to confront and defeat Lord Recluse, before the foul influence of Arachnos spreads even further.
- Irmine Ariosophist - After her confrontation with Irmine in the D, Maddy's friends told her that Irmine is a high ranking member of the council, a ruthless general without mercy, and a nearly invunerable warrior. None of this, however, seems to have been a factor when Maddy decided Irmine was her arch nemisis. Madx has no idea how lucky she is that Irmine probably didn't deign to remember her name...
- The Circle of Thorns - Perhaps she hoped they would hold an item to boost her powers.

Creator Notes and Trivia
Madeline is the type of character who never holds back what she's feeling. As such she's easy for telepaths to be around, she says exactly what she's thinking, as soon as it occurs to her. I made her with the idea of a character who's not so much brave as impulsive, and loyal not because of any true virtue, but because she's incapable of deception or pretense. She's not heroic in the sense that she's trying to do what's right. Instead, she does what she wants to, and this usually turns out to be well meaning, if not always helpful. In a way this makes her innocent, but it gives her a weird sort of selfishness too.
