Character

RageBrood is, in essence, a survivor. He's been through some of the worst slums both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have to offer. He's been in too many fights to count and has been the center of trouble more than enough times. Sometimes, it is rightfully his own fault, but most of the time Rage tries to lay low, yet fate always seems against him in most sensitive situations. This leads him to his exile from Paragon and subsequent incarceration.

All this turmoil in his life has left the man with a hard edged outlook on life. He never expects the best from people and on his own is about as fun as watching paint dry. He has a no-nonsense attitude when on the job and often flies into random rages of violence. (Hence his Namesake) This often leads to a world of pain for him, as he is quite tough, but not invulnerable. Rage might find himself in over his head more than he'd like to admit, but he often works his way out one way or another.

Recently, he’s been slowly loosening up, due to his new affiliation. The often-lighthearted group he now is seen around seems to have changed his mood for the better, and opened him up enough to even consider a relationship. How it will affect him overall, however, has yet to be seen.

Background

Paragon years

Leon Santiago was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was son to parents Marta and Manuel Santiago. His parents moved to Paragon with dreams of grandeur, trying to start a small sandwich shop in Atlas. However, the dream was easily quashed by the likes of the local gangs, who demanded protection money. His parents often refused. But after a late night beating, while young Leon watched from his cot, his parents gave in.

The boy was traumatized from that day on, he grew to have a paranoid outlook on life, always watching over his shoulder. And this carried on with him after his parents’ failure to pay the money requested by the gangs, sending them into a downward spiral into poverty. The small family ended up in Kings Row, in a cheap hovel of an apartment. He was sent off to work at the tender age of 13, and since no legal work could be done, he found work in the worst of places. Namely, a courier for the Family. Nobody would expect the fresh faced kid trudging along the streets of Kings to actually be carrying a couple pounds of 'dine in his backpack.

As the years passed, he only grew more and more involved with the local gangs and Family. The Trolls in particular loved him, because he would always deliver their 'dine on time. At the age of 16 he was heavily involved with both the Trolls and Family. And it was around this time that he started to manifest his power. He carried a mutant gene, which when he was under duress or fear, would trigger the ability to absorb the life force and abilities of the person he was touching. He kept all this to himself, for fear that he would be outcast. Little did he know that fate had that in store for him anyway...

Power Unleashed

It was a dark night in Industrial Ave. Oddly dark, because the clouds were out in force and only a few stars and moonbeams even made it to the earth. Figures moved across the street carrying large packages in their arms. One of those figures was the young Leon Santiago. The Family had a large shipment of 'dine moving through Kings into Skyway. Leon was being paid well for this job, he could afford to bring home food at least for the rest of the year. Maybe even buy that radio his mother wanted.

Above the street, hovered a man known to most as PowerPulse. He was a true hero, or so he thought, who fought for justice and peace and all that garbage. The masked hero dove down through the buildings and into the alley where his informant told him the couriers would be stashing some of the loot till they could move it in trucks. And there he faced the small mob of men charged with carrying the goods.

Leon was frozen, he'd never faced a hero before and the stories he'd heard from those who did sent chills down his spine. He couldn't get caught not now. It took him a moment before he could drop the case and run, a hail of gunfire from small arms and tommy guns echoing behind him. Those sounds were almost immediately silenced, as PowerPulse smashed through them easily with his superior strength. Nothing would escape this Hero. And this held true for Leon Santiago, unfortunately for PowerPulse.

Santiago was easily cornered, the Hero demanding that he stand down. Leon did the only thing he knew to do and pulled out a knife. The Hero instantly snatched up his wrist intending to disarm him. That was a big mistake. Leon's mutant ability instantly kicked in, the fear coursing through giving him plenty of reason to. PowerPulse was instantly caught up in his power, his very life force, memories, and thoughts pouring into the terrified young man. In comparison, Leon was in an utter utopia of pleasure. His body bursting with the energy the hero offered him. When it was all over, PowerPulse lay a lifeless husk left to rot in an empty alley.

The RageBrood is born

The monster that stalked the streets that night killing and taking what he wished was nothing like Leon Santiago. His mind on overdrive, the boy teared down the streets of Kings Row absorbing and stealing what he though would benefit him most. A small force of Police officers and Heroes finally drove him into hiding. Though the damage he left was somewhat extensive, it was nothing that hadn't been done before. So, he was relatively under the radar once he found enough will within himself to control the urges to take more life.

The broken young man stumbled to his home on a snowy evening. He was beaten and disheveled, his body a horrid mix of emotions. When he opened the door, he was greeted to the cold shoulder and dark stares of his family. His actions had not gone completely unnoticed his parents had been notified of his terrible deeds. The boy was shunned from his home, left to fend for himself in the dark alleys of Kings Row. He quickly found himself in deeper and deeper trouble as his powers started to malfunction. He changed into the hero PowerPulse himself on several occasions and after a short while, he was ousted from the alleys. Both being shunned by those who feared heroes and chased out by the authorities who wanted him thrown in the Zig.

He left Paragon, finding refuge in the Rouge Isles for a short time. He was still a teenager for all intents and purposes, and it wasn't long until his naive nature wound him up in more trouble. At the age of 17 he found himself in Paragon again, securing a deal with his old employers. An undercover cop busted the arms deal and Leon was finally thrown into the Zig.

The Zig

Leon was not one to take the robbery of his freedom lightly. Although he had always been poor, the boy had the option to go anywhere he wished. Now, as a 'super' classed inmate at the Zig he was always limited to living in close quarters with hundreds of other angry inmates. At first he took out his frustrations on others, the fights within the courtyard of the Zig during recreation hours were always something he look forward to. Even though he lost many times, he slowly started to gain some semblance of a fighting style. Soon enough the other inmates had a certain respect for him, and he was given the fighting alias of "RageBrood".

It was in the Zig that Rage also learned his other favorite pass time, inking. Tats soon became a sort of business for him in the Zig and he quickly found he had an affinity for the needle. Needless to say after a year at the Zig Rage was slightly more comfortable. That is, until he tried his first and last escape.

Rage had a huge rivalry with a man named Marcus Rhode. Marcus, was a fellow ring fighter in the courtyard bouts and they often clashed to the glee of the surrounding inmates. Rage's attempt at escape put Marcus in the cross hairs of the guard framing him for a brutal beating on a non-super inmate. In the fray Rage attempted to absorb the likeness of one of the guards and steal away. His plan was foiled after a security camera caught him in the act of both impersonating Marcus and the guard. It only got worse for RageBrood from here on.

Due to his savage actions he was thrown into the 'Box'. It was an eleven by eleven room deep under the basement of the Zig. Only the most uncontrollable inmates were sent there. The only thing that RageBrood had in the box was a small cot, a toilet and a small shower. His food was lowered to him by way of rope, which would be immediately cut if he tried to climb it. RageBrood was left with nothing, and he spent half a year slowly loosing his mind. The only people he had to talk to were those in his head, those he had absorbed.

That all changed when Julie came into his life. A psychiatrist tasked with figuring out the cases of psychosis in the inmates of the Zig, she often visited him for various lengths of time to speak with him about his condition. Rage regarded her as a dear friend, and found solace in the woman.

RageBrood was in the Zig up until two weeks after his 23rd birthday. That was when Arachnos struck at the Ziggurat. RageBrood was sprung from the box and he found his way back to the isles.

Current Events

Affiliations

RageBrood had a short stint within Arachonos, mainly because he needed to find someplace to stay and a source of money. It was there that he joined the Arachnos Elite, he wasn't there long, before he disappeared for a month or two.

When he returned from his short hiatus, he worked mainly as a freelance mercenary or bodyguard. It was during this time that he had his fated meeting with the Crimson Cutlass. This proved beneficial to him, and he continued to hang around the crew. After a slightly rocky first start he was slowly integrated into the main crew where he stays today.

Some of his closest friends include:

Powers

Absorption

RageBrood has the power to absorb thoughts, feelings, powers, and memories through his touch. He triggers it like a switch in his mind, so he is not a constant threat of absorbing some of those he touches. A few moments of this type of contact and he can easily know what you are thinking and maybe a few fragments of one's memories. After a prolonged period he would know a few intimate memories and exactly how you feel and think at the moment. After half a day, RageBrood can absorb someone completely, leaving behind a husk of what was once there. After this kind of contact he can steal the powers of someone and know almost everything about said person. However, he can only control a few powers at a time and often looses one power if he gains another.

Psychic blocks have no affect on how he absorbs, he can easily pass through barriers given enough time.

Super Strength

RageBrood has exceptional strength, able to tear apart and smash almost anything. He's been known to tear down the foundations of buildings if enraged enough and was reported to stand toe to toe with the likes of the Back Alley Brawler.

Electrical Armor

Taken from a Mu sorcerer, RageBrood bends the magic that courses through him into natural defenses. He can become a supercharged being of neigh invulnerability if he finds it necessary to do so. This often leaves him winded as a side-effect however. The armor has been reported to stop bullets, pool tables, washing machines, tables, chairs, lamps, and thrown cars. He shrugs off most damage as if it were a pesky mosquito. However, he is not invulnerable and after increased concentrations of damage his shields can start to break down.

Leviathan Mastery

A 'gift' from Captain Mako, RageBrood now has limited use of the powers the shark-man possesses.

Super Leaping

Another power absorbed from a magical fiend, RageBrood can leap great distances.

Shifting

RageBrood can take the likeness of those he has completely absorbed, these are some of his most known forms:
