The hero known as Nigredo Fist is a character on the Virtue server of the game, City of Heroes. He is 23 years old and resides in the Steel Canyon sector of Paragon City, Rhode Island. He is a mutant who has suffered but overcome many obstacles in his life, and by game mechanics he is a scrapper. The creation of this character was driven by the creator's liking of mutants and the transformation to his mutant form was inspired by Marvel's Nightcrawler.

The Will

Beginnings
Albert Drakinsky was born on July 28, 1989 in the never-sleeping Las Vegas, Nevada. His birth brought about complications that most people wouldn't believe. His mother disappeared after giving birth to him and there was no father present. Local authorities had no choice but to put him in foster care.
Of course, being in foster care was more than he could bargain for.
Mutation
His mutation surfaced at the age of 18 when a gang of Hellion gangbangers harassed him for money. When he gave (and could give) none, the Hellions jumped him in an attempt to release their anger on him. Here is where Albert's life would change forever. His skin became completely tinted in a charcoal grey color and his body emitted a faint black smoke. He would then go on to kill every single Hellion who jumped him. After expending all that energy, he would immediately faint and would be found by a man who would later become a very good friend to Albert.
Paragon City
Here in Paragon City, he would learn how to control his powers through the aid of his doctors, his friends, and through a supergroup he joined called New Age Mutants. He would make many friends there, including the leader at the time, Gabriel Winter. Gabe would become a best friend and a father-figure to Albert.
Going through some life-changing realizations, Albert would leave New Age Mutants to pursue other interests. He would later form a group focused on helping the young people of today called The Young Watchers to give back to the community. Specifically, the youth.
Albert would later give leadership to a pair of twin brothers so that he could pursue studying a new force called "Incarnates" as had been told by a mender in Ouroboros. After learning that it had affected many peoples' powers (including himself) he concluded that there was nothing more he could do.
Currently, Albert is focusing on a business venture and is now a manager and owner of an apartment complex called Rolling Hills Apartments. Here, he would continue to meet with familiar faces and others he has not seen for a long time. However, many of his residents do not know of a 'side business' that the complex seems to be hiding...
On The Side
While not being the utterly responsible leader and adult that he is, Albert likes to spend time at home relaxing, hanging out with his friends, and spending time with significant other, Rey. The two have gone through many odds and ends and it took Rey over 9 months to get through to Albert.
Albert will seldom go to Pocket D to check out the scene and possibly meet old friends from his days before NAM. He believes that the scene there changes as much as a person changes their clothes and unfortunately, he rarely sees any of them nowadays.
His Capabilities
Nigredo Fist, as his name suggests, is a fairly skilled brawler and melee fighter. With the help of his mutant genes that somehow have a connection to the Netherworld, he has extraordinary strength, agility, and flexibility. In the past, he had been susceptible to bright lights, and will literally go insane and be in utter pain if someone brought him out in broad daylight. Due to this, he has become nocturnal by nature and will make it a point to be back home at least half an hour before sunrise so he can hibernate for the day.
Since then, however, he has found a way to cope with the sunlight and he is no longer susceptible to the sun and bright lights. While he is now functioning amongst the populace (work during the day, sleep at night, etc.), he still prefers to be a nocturnal creature.
On top of this, Albert also possesses an Indomitable Will. What does this exactly mean? It is just what it says. He also has an unimaginably high pain tolerance, and will not feel most pain which includes broken bones and torn ligaments. He is, however, sensitive to the metal impervium. Because of his pain tolerance and his mutation relating to the Nether, it is also this that allows him to consume large amounts of alcohol without becoming intoxicated.

- In addition to the powers he is known for, he is also known to be a bit acrobatic in battle.
- He has declared that gender need not matter. He will hit on gals and guys with equal opportunity.
- One thing to note about Albert is that if you get on his bad side, expect to stay in it. Probably for good. He feels that he was not granted any second chances and he is basically returning the favor. He is not, however, heartless. Perhaps speaking to him may avert this fate.
- Albert absolutely hates it when people try to talk to him through a telepathic link. However, the only exceptions he will make to this is with the leader of NAM Gabriel Winter, mentor N'ur Head/Versalis Fayte, Psistream, Nereidia, and best friend Fire-Crow.
- Albert burns water. Let's leave it at that.
- If there's anything that Albert looks down upon, it is the notion of throwing people away.
- Albert has a fairly severe dislike for Freedom Phalanx. Especially Manticore. Though, he will work with them if needed. The only one he has friendly relations with is Shalice.
- Albert has a very keen sense of his surroundings wherever he goes. He is also very observant.
- Because Albert possesses an indomitable will, his mind is extremely difficult to scan, look into, and much less control. He will be extremely difficult to sway and convince through conventional and unconventional means.
- And on that note, Albert can be very stubborn. Once he has made a decision, it's pretty much set in stone. Getting him to change his mind almost takes an act of god.
- Also on that note, Albert has the ability to cut off any telepathic connection he has in his mind. Having several connections all at once does that to you.
- While Albert does not physically feel pain, he does and will go into shock should he suffer from massive blood loss.
- Albert can speak in a perfect British accent, and you'd think he's a native. If you asked him to elaborate on it, he'd go further to say it's from Southampton. He speaks this way to people he doesn't trust. Among friends, he uses it to crack jokes or even to make a point.
TV-Tropes
Some tropes to better understand Albert.
- Parental Abandonment - Albert's mother was nowhere to be found after childbirth. There was also no father present at the time of his birth.
- Like A Son To Me - Gabriel Winter quoted this exact thing to Albert. And due to an absence of a father in his life, Albert immediately embraced the idea. This would be a further catalyst for Albert to take his leadership responsibilities that much more seriously.
- Bi The Way - Albert is an honest to goodness bisexual man. He has no hangups with either gender, and he has had romantic and sexual experiences with both genders. Currently, however, he is in a same-sex relationship with Rey Makaiau.
- Children Raise You - After he learned that Enterphase was his biological father, Albert then learned that his father was more than he could bargain for. He was very flirtatious towards the women of NAM, fairly provocative (objectionable activities with certain women in NAM's hot tub), had no self-restraint, and had some characteristics of a wild child. Albert ended up having to discipline his own father due to this and surprisingly enough, his father seemed fairly receptive to his own son's lectures and disciplinary actions.
- Big Brother Mentor - During his times in NAM and The Young Watchers, Albert has mentored many people in learning how to control their powers and dealing with certain issues. These people include Fire-Crow, Radiation Ralphie, Psistream, Plum Whine, Eli Fresca, Jayden Michaels, and to a lesser extent Eddie Talon.
- Combat Pragmatist - There are times when Albert has had to fight dirty for the good of his friends, the world, and when the enemy decides to play dirty as well.
- Partial Transformation - Due to his mutation, he can transform into something he calls his mutant form, in which his skin turns charcoal grey and his eyes glow a bright red. This transformation allows him to be more agile, have better regeneration, and his attacks hit harder.
- Orphan's Ordeal - Albert jumped from home to home to home, not being able to get along with his foster siblings and foster parents. While he finally found a home in which he found a friend in a foster brother, he still hated his foster parents.
- Badass Longcoat - Of course, his black trench coat.
- Cool Shades - In order to acclimate with his powers, Albert began wearing sunglasses. At first, this only mildly helped. Even as he gained complete control of his powers, he still wears said sunglasses. Even at night.
- Nice Hat - To complete his black outfit, he began to wear a fedora. He has become known for the fedora-shades-trench coat combo.
- Evil Counterpart - At one point, his Praetorian counterpart (now called Darkshot Avenger) wanted him dead. But after putting him in his place and after his counterpart learned the truth about Praetoria, Albert's Praetorian counterpart no longer fits this bill and now seeks to find answers and direction with his life.

Albert has met, come across, and befriended many many people in Paragon City. He's been given a few headaches by people in Pocket D and in the Rogue Isles. So of course, Albert has words to say about them. But one thing is certain. Albert is an honest young man who is wise beyond his years.
