Sloth
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Origin
Miles Archer was a career criminal. He was one of the best get-away drivers in the business. Towards the end of his career, Miles fell in with a group who specialized in bank heists. The leader of the group, tired of the lack of respect that came from not being costumed villains in a city filled with heroes, decided that the group needed costumes and a theme. As there were seven of them, the group became known as the Seven Deadly Sins, and, since Miles was late for the meeting, he became Sloth.
Armed with gizmos and gadgets, the gang had a string of successful roberies, even managing to take out a team of Longbow operatives and a minor hero after one of them. The leader of the gang (Envy of course) was infuriated when he read in the Paragon Times of his group refered to as "third-string villains". He soon found a power-broker by the name of Necrollis who agreed to give them the power that Envy desired.
It was a dark night in a run-down warehouse in Kings Row when Envy introduced the rest of the team to Necrollis. Necrollis spoke a few words, and suddenly, what they all had taken for a black cloak unfurlled into demonic wings. Suddenly the gang couldn't move and Miles felt himself changing. He watched in horror as Necrollis snapped Envy's neck, and another demon began crawling out of the body even as Necrollis moved to the next in line.
With a roar, Miles charged forward and the battle was joined. Necrollis killed most of the bank robbers, and with each death, one of the "sins" was freed and another demon joined the battle. Miles found that he barely noticed the demon's blows and began using his strength to pummel Necrollis. The head demon managed to escape, but the other demons were all destroyed. When the smoke cleared, only Sloth, Lust, and Gluttony were still standing.
As a group of heroes arrived to investigate the disturbance, Lust and Gluttony snuck away into the night, but Miles stayed behind. Originally mistaken for a hero, Miles told them the truth and placed himself into their custody. Having such blatant evidence of the existance of Hell, Miles wanted no part of it and sought redemption for his crimes.
After a few years in the Zig, Sloth entered the world of Paragon City and was accepted into the ranks of the Knights of Paragon, fighting alongside such heroes as Sensai Slaybringer, Warp 9, Hollow, Ruby Hawk and the Paragon-Patriot.
Sloth dropped from the hero scene for a while as he went to Hollywood and helped create the HBO mini-series based on his life and his time in the Zig. He gained brief noteriety from the show's success before returning to Paragon City to join his old teammate Lust with the Talons of Freedom. Once that group disbanded, Sloth moved into retirement from the hero scene.
Sloth spends most of his time these days working on his autobiography, hanging out with his friend Rua Bas, and attending the Friday night Wild Muse show on The Cape radio station. He can still be seen leaping out to fight the occasional band of Rikti or Carnies, but those sightings are becomming more and more rare, and his days drinking Slobbernocker Beers and talking about the good old days attending BBQs at the Trailer of Solitude with the Sons of the South or of fighting alongside Xanatos and Superstellar are far more frequent.
Trivia
Sloth, The Slowest Man Alive, was originally created in October of 2001 for the City of Heroes game. At the time it was little more than an idea and a forum, and oddly enough most people didn't seem to get the fact that the character was a joke.
Sloth is the typical "ugly brick". 9 feet tall and covered in fur, he mopes about no longer being "human". This is further complicated by the fact that his only marketable skills, driving and car repair, are useless when there are no vehicles you can even fit into and no tools that would fit your hands. However, despite all this, Sloth is further proof of my theory of "ugly Brick syndrome" which says that the giant, ugly guy on every hero team will get the hot girlfriend.
The name, "Miles Archer" was taken from "The Maltese Falcon". Miles was Sam Spade's luckless partner who gets gunned down by the girl.
