Origin
Yolanda Gladstone was raised in a society that believed strongly in being polite, addressing people properly, and that they were the highest form of life native to the earth. The center of their society is sequestered away on an island slightly out of phase with the rest of the earth, making it impossible for any but the most skilled to reach their idyllic homeland. Needless to say they view humans in much the same way a human regards an anthill. Only those with a sense of right and wrong keeps them from exterminating humanity entirely. And, like Yolanda’s mother, not all of them have that stopping them.
From early age Yolanda never got along with her mother, Rhiannon Gladstone. Between her father's death and watching the course of human history over thousands of years continuously regressing into barbaric behavior over and over again, Rhiannon's sanity started to slip. She turned from a loving mother into a dangerously intelligent psychopath bent on destroying human life. Yolanda's arguing with her mother over the centuries devolved into outright hate. So when Lanara eventually got Rhiannon put in Zigursky, Yolanda went to Paragon City and visited her mother in prison regularly hoping her mother would reform. But it's hard to reform when your in a constant state of drugged haze. So by the time Arachnos broke Rhiannon out, no reforming occured, much to Yolanda's dismay.
At one point Rhiannon, upset at her daughter's uppityness and inability to understand Rhiannon's ambition to destroy all human life, she said she removed all of Yolanda's powers. Yolanda did, in fact, experience a loss in powers, but it was mostly psychological. This amused Rhiannon to no end. However Yolanda did something unexpected. Experiencing a loss in magical power, she resolved to bring her mother to justice in any way possible, and started investing in funds, saving money in overseas bank accounts, and and invested a heavy sum into a Japanese company specializing in armored power suits for superheroes, and invested in one for herself, determined to use it to fight her mother's evil.
One of the men working for this company was a Japanese man from Kobe whose daughter one day morphed into a feline with superhuman powers - Yuki Yanagi. It later turned out that Yuki, who likes to go to clubs and is lesbian, met a woman in Pocket D and started going out with her. A woman named Rhiannon Gladstone.
Personality
Yolanda in many ways is the direct opposite of her mother. Honorable, Virtuous, and suffers from a bit of naievete. Intelligent like her mother, but not as experienced. Unlike her mother, she's still in good standing with the fae of Avalon, and of their king - Rhiannon's father. She is a good little girl that loves and misses her mother... except for the fact that they are both many years in age and immortal. She gets on reasonably well with Faekin allied with goodness and light - the Seelie - although by birth she and heritage she is an Unseelie, a dark fae.
Somewhere, deep in side, Yolanda wonders if she hadn't been born if her mother would never have gone down the dark road of insanity. She blames herself in this way for her mother's evil, but it only serves to redouble her resolve to stop Rhiannon's evils. She will never give up the hope that her mother might someday be redeemed.
Unlike Rhiannon, who has had thousands of years to become relatively well adjusted in human society, Yolanda is still inexperienced dealing with humans. Often the nuances of living among humans baffle and frustrate her. Even common jokes sometimes leave her scratching her head in confusion. The culture shock between living as a fae and living among humans has still left Yolanda reeling.
Powers
She does still have some of her original magical powers, but she augments them with magic rings and things to make them work better. Her powers come genetically from her race and from her mother specifically. She has full control of ice and cold. Her powers rely on having water to work with. If there is no liquid water nearby, she can pull water from the air. She cannot use her powers in a vacuum or an extremely hot environment. Yolanda's body is very cold pretty much all the time, hovering around 10 degrees celsius. If you touch her hand, her skin is very cold to the touch, but not clammy. This makes her immune to any kind of scanning or detection system that requires a heat signature... because she has none. In fact she tends to give off a slight mist as water particles in the air around her suddenly lose ambient heat and start to condensce, turning into mist. This mist effect follows her almost constantly.
Weaknesses
Yolanda Gladstone's mother Rhiannon is a very powerful and dangerous adversary. Her siblings were Odin, Banshee, and various other 'mythological' (so called) figures. But like any faekin, they - Yolanda included - have one very definite and exploitable weakness.
Iron.
The ferrous metal is inherently disruptive to fae magic and can cut through it like a hot knife through butter. If you use a gun on her, it has iron in it, but she can melt the gun from afar. But the weapon that she no defense against at all is the iron bell. Any defense she could possibly erect from the ringing of a cast iron bell would be shattered by the sound waves it produces. Only a few tones from such a bell can bring the most Godlike faekin to her knees.
Latest RP Information
The Summer Court of the fae is somewhat like medieval Europe. For Yolanda, daughter of Rhiannon, her bloodline makes her the equivalent of a princess or a wealthy baroness's daughter. As such she is expected to marry whomever the ruling party dictates she marry. Queen Titania decided a young man of authority for her to marry, hoping Yolanda would settle down and live with her people again. Yolanda would not hear of it for two reasons.
- 1. She doesn't love him. This never matters to the ruling party and is never considered valid reason to turn down the Queen's mandate in the society she comes from.
- 2. She doesn't like men. This is simply UNHEARD of and UNSPOKEN of in the classical renaissance society she comes from. You simply don't TALK of things like that. Though the Queen might know more than Yolanda gives her credit for...
Since Lanara moved out to live with Emma Fields, Yolanda has become despondent and depressed, burying herself in schoolwork and other duties.
