Player Notes

Auspice is a serious, if a bit lazy, powergamer and PvPer. He often is very critical of players and more so of characters. This can cause many people to get the wrong impression about him - he does not often make personal attacks. Auspice is relatively opinionated and has strong views about the gameplay of (insert game here) and how to play it at the highest levels of play. Auspice is relatively unable to play any sort of game casually and will often overanalyze scenarios in games where such things do not matter, such as drinking games, where he will frequently count cards or otherwise "play to win".

City of Heroes/Villains

Auspice was first exposed to CoH around Issue 3, when GenericVillain first began playing. Auspice thought that CoH looked lame and boring, and that most games he'd played (Diablo 2, Ragnarok Online) played better than CoH. He continued to hold this mentality for years, moving onto other games, such as World of Warcraft. He claimed that when City of Villains launched, he might be interested in actually playing, but when i7 happened and CoV loomed, Auspice still couldn't really care.

It wasn't until Issue 9 and the Invention system launched that the game became interesting to Auspice, as the invention system created much more diverse gameplay in the form of myriad different character builds. Auspice became an early adopter of the invention system and was a multi-millionaire in his first week of playing. Like most players though, it took him months to get his first 50, and when Mercad Calypso finally hit the level cap, he moved on to exploring the whole of the game and not just the mastermind archetype. Still, Auspice is a hardcore MM player and is quite adept at writing custom bind setups and using them in battle.

Now, Auspice has multiple 50s, including Miss Blue, Black Replica, Eternal Romancia, and Magic Circuit. He excels at support play and is exceptionally good at keeping buffs on people and making green life bars go up. He thinks support in CoX is kind of easymode.

Cape Radio

Auspice is secretly DJ-Blue from The Cape Radio. He has an unusual taste in music and brings a unique brand of style to The Cape. He has a certain kinship with DJ Vangelus who is a fellow PvPer.

Background

Fighting games

Among many other things, Auspice has a deep investment in the world of competitive gaming. He is a lesser known figure in several gaming circles, often infamously. He has contributed in some form or fashion to the competitive scenes of Armored Core, Soul Calibur, Melty Blood, and to a very limited extent Guilty Gear, and has been ranked in the top ten in regional tournaments for all but Guilty Gear. He is also an avid WarTech:SnR player. Auspice is a huge fan of David Sirlin.

Tabletop

Auspice began his tabletop experience with Palladium Books but has played and GMed numerous games over his roleplaying history. He has had over ten years of experience in tabletop gaming as a GM, and realizes that after so long of GMing he can no longer be a player due to his inability to keep himself from minmaxing. He insists that he could play "more fun" characters five years ago.

MMORPGS

Auspice played a wizard during the middle days of EverQuest, and was in a reasonably well-faring raid guild. After quitting EQ he did not play any MMORPGs until Ragnarok Online in 2003, where he played numerous characters. After a long time playing it, he migrated to World of Warcraft and leveled a warlock to 50, saw the raid levels approaching, and quit while he was ahead. He continued to play Ragnarok Online as a top tier guild strategist, continuing to play even after he began playing City of Villains.

Development

As an experienced competitive gamer and amateur game designer he understands clearly what factors affect game balance and to a lesser degree, what factors contribute to a positive gaming experience. His main skill in game development is marketing and he finds the attitude of many game developers who still believe they do not pander to their customers to be absolutely appalling. He has produced several gaming projects, none of which have done exceptionally well. Due to his embarassment at such things, he is not advertising what he has worked on in VirtueVerse or in public.

Roleplaying?

Auspice enjoys roleplaying but finds it a bother to find interesting people. If you find him interesting, feel free to send him a tell. He is more content to play supporting roles than main ones but he tends to be rather wordy. He does, however, dislike certain roleplayers who believe that talking about character builds outside the arena terminals in Pocket D is a violation of roleplayers' space. He also firmly believes that any RP disputes should be settled in PvP, and if a player cannot play his character to the level that he is roleplaying, then Auspice firmly believes the character is being roleplayed improperly.

Play Schedule

Auspice has no such things. He is online when he feels like playing. This is infrequently. He was frequently in the Virtue Ventrilo but has since ceased, since his computer currently sucks. He is almost always present for Giza Fight Night on Friday or Saturday nights at 5pm PST(check the Virtue forums for details; search for the current Fight Night thread).

Characters

Auspice is a chronic redside player and hates heroes. Despite that, he has a few experiments. He generally only plays one character at a time.

Unthemed

Prior to my Type-Moon revolution, I made a few characters. This also includes DJ-Blue, although he is older than most of my Type-Moon named characters.

Type-Moon

All of my more recent characters have names related to something created by Type-Moon. I prefer Tsukihime references and haven't had to branch out yet, but the time will come if I make more characters. Type-Moon has a lot of engrishey names, most of which sound really cool as superhero/villain monikers.

Other names I'd like to use include: Hologram Summer, Black Key(s), Marble Phantasm, Noble Phantasm, Reality Marble, Dead Apostle, True Ancestor, Unlimited Blade Works, Crimson Moon...
