Supergroup: Co-leader of The Youth League

Origin

Veronica was a typical Paragon City High teenager until that fateful field trip to the museum when the Circle of Thorns changed her life forever. Caught in a battle between the Circle and the police, Veronica was struck by a stray mystic bolt just as she fell against the statue of Athena, the Greek goddess. The unsuspecting cheerleader was transformed into a mystical battery for electrical energy with the ability to hurl bolts of lightning and manipulate matter electromagnetically.

Powers

Veronica Volt has magical control over electricity as well as other mystical powers. She can wield lightning to strike at her opponents either individually or in groups and can even shape standing charges to contain foes.

She can fly as well as teleport herself and allies within a limited range and uses the ability frequently to teleport foes within range of her powerful electric blasts.

Electric Blasts

Veronica has been charged by the lightning of Athena, daughter of Zeus. She can direct the mystical lightning to strike her foes, even over long ranges. Her control is reasonably precise, after years of training. She can, at will, deliver anything from a small shock to a massive torrent of electricity. She can target individual foes or multiple targets.

Electrical Manipulation

Veronica can surround herself with a crackling field of electricity that shocks foes surrounding her. She can also create “rings” of electricity that encircle an opponent, holding them in place. A common tactic is to teleport herself to the center of a large crowd while electricity streams from her body, then as the mob is staggering from the shock, she releases a powerful explosion of electricity in the form of a large sphere.

Electric Mastery

By ramping up her own standing charge, Veronica can create a type of electrical “armor” that helps deflect incoming damage. She can also deliver a staggering wave of electro-magnetic energy that can stun most people nearby and temporarily knock electrical systems off-line.

Teleportation

Veronica can magically teleport from one location to another within relatively short distances. She can use her teleportation powers to move other objects as well, including allies and foes. She frequently employs her teleportation abilities to surprise foes by ‘porting them to appear directly in front of her where she then shocks them with a combination of electrical attacks.

One aspect of her abilities she hasn't realized yet is her ability to move across dimensional boundries. She unwittingly teleported once to an alternate earth when she was struck by a telepathic assult from a Carnival of Shadows Illusionist while she was trying to flee. Her fellow Youth Leaguers Bad Day Boy, Volo, and Kid Psyche managed to locate her after a couple of weeks and mounted a rescue party that succeeded in bringing the young heroine home.

Flight

Veronica Volt has limited flight abilities that effect only herself. Her top flight speed is somewhere around 25 miles per hour.

Leadership

Veronica is a skilled leader and can use her knowledge to direct and increase the overall accuracy of a team while in combat. She's spent hundreds of hours training in the gym at Youth League headquarters and many more actually in the field.

Equipment

The only equipment Veronica carries on a regular basis is her Youth League Comm. Unit. It fits conveniently on her belt while she wears an ear piece on her right ear that links to the Comm. Unit. Her personal Comm. Unit has been modified to resist her electrical field. She has been known to use a few special items when the need arises but these she usually summons magically to herself from her room at Youth League headquarters.

Veronica Volt kills some time between missions at Portal Corp.

Description

Veronica typically wears a cobalt blue body suit with bright yellow lightning bolts on her boots and cape. She occasionally wears a suit of similarly styled magical armor. Veronica has limited control of her electrical powers and as a result is constantly surrounded by a powerful static charge that crackles about her body. Her blonde hair and blue eyes have graced the covers of several teen-hero fan magazines in Paragon City.

Personality

Veronica has what most would call a sunny disposition. She is usually cheerful and enthusiastic and enjoys working with her fellow heroes to protect Paragon City. She has a wry sense of humor but is usually focused and disciplined in her pursuit of justice. She takes her duty as co-leader of the Youth League seriously and is always concerned about maintaining a respectable image for the team. She feels a very strong sense of loyalty towards her fellow teammates and is proud to be a part of the Youth League, a sentiment that shows whenever she speaks of them.

Detailed History

A Path Rejected

Mina Aesara grew up as her mother and her grandmother, and dozens of other women in her family line for generation after generation. A matriarchal lineage, the Aesara women were all descendants of a long line of priestesses that served the goddess Athena. As each generation came of age, their duties within the temple changed. Young females served as acolytes within the temple, helping the priestesses and learning the ancient traditions and ceremonies. When they reached adulthood, they were tested, and the finest of them entered service as a full fledged priestess. Among the duties of the faithful was the responsibily of selecting and training a handmaiden for their mistress. Only one handmaiden existed at any given time and it was the duty of the temple to ensure that she was trained properly, for she would serve as Athena's personal attendant. As time wore on, the older priestesses would move on, completing the cycle of life as Athena willed and finding a mate to continue the family line. The oldest of the priestesses would take a husband and bear children. Males were treated well and loved, as would be any child but the female children were fated to follow in the footsteps of their matriarchs. The efforts of centuries were almost destroyed when young Mina first felt the tug of the werstern world call to her.

She abandoned the old traditions, and set out on her own to wander the coastal villages of Greece. On the island of Mikenos, she met and fell in love with a handsome young man named Stavros Poulus. She revealed as little about her history as she could to him, hinting that she was an orphan, and possibly in hiding from some trouble from her past. Knowing that her family was searching for her, Mina convinced Stavros to leave Greece with her and travel to America. The two started a new life together in the bustling metropolis that was Paragon City. Within a year, Mina was pregnant with the couple's first child, a beautiful daughter that they named Veronica, after Stavros' grandmother. A few years later the couple had a second child, a handsome boy they named Justin. Mina thought less and less of her old life, consumed by the new experiences on America and the struggle of raising two children in a much faster paced society than she'd been accostumed to. Veronica grew up in Paragon City, attending public elementary school and later joining her friends in Paragon City High School. She was a pretty girl, with golden blonde hair and sparkling, electric blue eyes. Veronica was popular with her peers and although she wasn't a model student, she did well in most of her classes. In her freshman year of high school, Veronica joined the cheerleading squad and continued to cheer as the years passed and she progressed from grade to grade. In her Sophomore year, Veronica was cheering one evening when she received the tragic news. Her parents and little brother had all been slain; innocent victims caught in the crossfire of a Skuls/Hellions gang war. The young girl was devastated. Reluctantly, she moved into a foster home and tried to continue with her life.

Help from Above

During her Junior year in high school, Veronica's history class took a field trip to the Pargaon City Museum to tour the latest exhibits. Veronica and her best friend Jak were slowly winding their way through the ancient Greek section when the first of the Circle of Thorns mages struck. The museum guards were the first to be struck down and in the insuing choas that followed, Veronica and Jak found themselves right in the middle of the fight. Jak was (secretly) the son of two of Paragon City's famous superheros and had inherited his parent's incredible acrobatic skills and speed. He used his abilities to shield Veronica as best he could but in the end watched in horror as the young girl was struck by a blast of mystical energy from one of the mages. The attack sent her crashing through a large glass display case and she impacted heavily against the large bronze statue of Athena within.

From high atop Mount Olympus, Athena watched in growing fury as the Circle of Thorns mages tore through the museum. Precious artifacts were carelessly destroyed as the mages scattered both security forces and guests like leaves before the storm. As she watched the battered form of her wayward suplicant fly through the air, she decided to take action. She channeled her vast powers through the bronze cast statue as young Veronica crashed into it with a resounding thud.

Jak gasped as he saw Veronica hurled against the immovable object, certain that the impact would prove fatal. To his surprise, there was a tremendous flash of bright blue-white light and the cheerleader was surrounded in a shower of sparks. He watched as she pulled herself upright, obviously dazed from the experience. Electricity seemed to flow about her slim body and her eyes glowed a brilliant blue. The Thorn Mage laughed cruelly and prepared to hurl another bolt of mystical energy at the young girl. To his surprise, she straightened and instinctively threw one arm out before her. A powerful jolt of electricity arced from the startled girl's outstretched hand to the dark green robed man, flinging his spasming body backwards to impact against the far wall. The deep rumble of thunder shook the museum as Veronica lashed out at the remaining mystics. Within moments, they lay unconscious and the police swept in to take charge of the situation. Veronica was lauded as a hero and Paragon City gained a new protector.

A New Family

Veronica completed her introduction course at Hero Corp and was recommended to the leader of a newly formed super group called the Youth League. Through months of intense training, Veronica learned to harness her newfound powers in a variety of ways. She also began regular training sessions with Azuria of M.A.G.I. in order to better understand the nature of her abilities. Life within the new group was exciting and the young girl quickly made friends with the other heroes. One in particular, Kid Ferret, reminded Veronica of her younger brother Justin, and she took an immediate liking to the boisterous young man. Soon after joining the team, the founders of The Youth League took a protracted leave of absence. Veronica found herself in co-leadership of the still inexperienced super group. Working with her fellow hero Fyre Prism, she established set protocals for the team and together they began a recruiting drive to bolster the ranks.

Love at First Fight

Months passed and the Youth League grew into a powerful force against evil. It's members were widely recognized throughout the city and Veronica's life was going well. By chance, she joined her fellow hero, Blazing Cinders on a mission to Striga Isle where she met a new member that Cinders had just recruited. Her first impression of the armor-clad hero Merrex was "cute, but cocky". She was determined to remain professional during the mission but Merrex's jovial attitude was infectious and she caught herself laughing out loud many times over the course of the next few hours. By the time the team had wrapped up the case, Veronica knew she was more than just a little interested in the young man. The two flirted for several weeks before Merrex asked her to be his date at an upcoming prom the Youth League was co-hosting with several of their allies. The two were officially an item and Veronica couldn't have been happier.

Bitter Lessons

Cryo Shock

As the Youth League grew in popularity, they became greater targets for the many villains both in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Lord Recluse sent a spy to infiltrate the Youth League, a young man named Cryo Shock who was actually a composite, cloned from the DNA of many heroes. Unknown to the team, Cryo Shock's genetic "brother" was Psi Elixer, another member of the Youth League. Cryo Shock harbored an irrational hatred for Psi Elixer and determined to kill him, but only after destroying the things he loved. The team chased Cryo Shock to the Rogue Isles where in a pitched battle the young villain was killed by a katana thrust from Jak of Hearts. Veronica was shocked and dismayed by the slaying. Her faith in Jak was shaken and she herself had to wrestle with her conscience over whether or not to arrest her best friend for murder.

Hallmark

Veronica's association with the dashing hero Merrex soon proved to have dark repercussions of it's own. A murderous villain named Hallmark had set his sights on the young man and would stop at nothing to torment him mercilessly. First content to terrorize Merrex in his dreams, Hallmark soon moved to more terrifying sport. He captured three members of the Youth League, Veronica Volt, Psi Elixer, and Kid Psyche and tortured each of them in trials specifically tailored to each victim. While the three survived physically unharmed they were all badly shaken. Kid Psyche was traumatized to the point that the young man retreated into his own mind where he remained for months. Veroinca's own sense of security was badly damaged and it took her several weeks to regain her former confidence.

The Delphian Circle

Hallmark again marked another dark chapter in Veronica's life when he allied himself with a villainous organization called The Delphian Circle. Aware that the Youth League was searching for Hallmark, and eager to see some of it's members in action for his own reasons, the villain Fitz leaked information on Hallmark's location to Veronica, knowing the young heroine would send a team to retrieve him. Veronica assembled a team quickly and they set out for Bloody Bay where they encountered Hallmark and his new allies. The two teams faught a pitched battle but in the end the Circle members escaped with Hallmark. Animosity between the Youth League and the Delphian Circle continued to increase as their relative members interacted in Pocket D and in both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. The situation turned particularly volitile when a member of the Delphian Cirlce was killed and another seriously wounded by an assassin hired by a Youth League member. The escalating violence was only stopped when the Delphian Circle appeared to disband and Hallmark himself disappeared.

Jak of Hearts

Hallmark was to play another dark part in Veronica's life when he set a trap for several Youth League members at the Terra Volta reactor. The battle was fierce and the sociopath was hard pressed to survive...or so they thought. Using his powerful telepathic powers, Hallmark clouded the heroe's minds making them think he'd been overcome. He'd secretly sabotaged the anti-radiation belts before starting a meltdown, knowing the heroes would be forced to use them. While Merrex and Neutrino rushed to save the reactor, Jak of Hearts stayed behind to guard Hallmark's body. Once they were alone, Hallmark seized control of Jak's mind, forcing on him a painful illusion involving Veronica's death. While Jak was overcome by the trick, Hallmark killed him with his own katana. Veronica's oldest and closest friend was gone and she held herself to blame for having admitted him to the Youth League, regardless of the fact that Jak was an accomlished hero in his own right.

Merrex Anew?

The same battle with Hallmark that led to the death of Jak of Hearts also had dire consequences on Veronica's boyfriend, Merrex. The high levels of radiation within the reactor were in fact boosted by the altered belts designed to protect the heroes. Merrex sustained what should have been fatal injuries while trying to shut down the core. The young man spent weeks confined to an isolation ward while doctors tried to find some way to save him. Eventually, his own miraculous armor succeeded where Paragon City's top minds had failed. The nanite technology deconstructed the room surrounding the hero and "rebuilt" him from the molecules it salvaged. Merrex was alive, but different; he was now and forever bonded to his suit on a molecular level so that the two were more correctly one.
