Personality
Webmaster Durand's personality is often described as being a hardass. Durand is strict to his crew and usually a sarcastic jerk to anyone who hasn't earned his respect yet. He takes his job as commander very seriously and demands anyone who serves under him to take their respective jobs seriously as well.
Equipment
Crab Spider Backpack
Webmaster Durand is equipped with a custom Crab Spider Backpack. It's more durable and "noble" looking than most of the other Crab Spider backpacks, but it works as most of the newer models do.
Crab Spider Armor
Durand's armor was also custom made for him, sporting the same "noble" color scheme and various features on his visor for combat situations. His armor is very durable, made out of a strong metal, and a few compartments for anything he has stashed on him.
There have also been rumors that his armor may have an Air Conditioner inside.
Strength Serum
When in emergency, Durand will use a strength serum made by Arachnos to inject into his armor and send it into his body. This Serum will dull any pain he feels for a while and make him go into a berserker mode when he uses it.
Other Equipment
Strapped to the side of his armor, Durand holds a standard Colt .45 pistol which he always keeps on his person at all times. He'll often keep it in his jacket pocket when he's not in his armor.
On his armor he keeps at least three grenades for emergencies. He rarely uses them, but he keeps them just incase.
Weaknesses
Webmaster Durand is often easily angered and annoyed, having a very short fuse. He doesn't let it show how much it does on the outside usually, but on the inside he's always ready to explode. And when he does, it's normally never good.
Another weakness Durand has is his alcohol problem. He usually spends every night drinking, often saying after a stressful situation "I'm going to go ahead and drink this off now." He doesn't usually drink too much unless something bothers him greatly.
Character History
Still to come...
The Venomous Web
Operative Durand was eventually promoted to Webmaster Durand when he proved himself worthy of a position he was chasing after for a long time. The Arbiters who met with him told him that he would be made co-commander of an elite task force of Arachnos soldiers. Despite his annoyance at being made co-commander, he was happy anyway.
The Arbiters described it to Durand. They told him that he would be given soldiers and was told to turn them all into able soldiers and make a group of mis-matched soldiers into a proper military team. This military team would in turn perform various elite and advanced tasks for Arachnos that were much more difficult than most other missions.
Durand knew this would be a challenge to do, especially when he thought his co-commander Arrivederci would be more of a mother than a leader. And he thought that he would have his work cut out for him when he saw the soldiers that he was sent. He saw most of them as pitiful excuses for soldiers, but he gave none of them any slack.
Slowly but surely, they were all turning into real soldiers. Some were well on their way there while others needed a shove and a smack in the right direction from Durand and Arrivederci. But in time, The Venomous Web ended up being a fierce military force in Arachnos, and one of the more promising groups in the organization.
Members of The Venomous Web
Durand has developed many opinions about his soldiers in the Venomous Web and is often very vocal about it. Here are some of his more vocal opinions.
Commander
- Arrivederci - Durand's co-commander of the Venomous Web. He respects her, though he gives her a lot of crap about 'babying' their soldiers. She never seems to be shy about talking back at Durand in any case, which adds to Durand's respect for her. He wishes he was running the squad solo, but is satisfied with Arrivederci's performance anyway.
Lieutenants
None yet...
Operatives
- Executioner Jago - The Venomous Web's Arachnos Flier pilot. Durand holds Jago in high regard, though he once expressed his frustration in Jago never telling him that Jago wasn't his last name. Jago knows how to avoid ticking Durand off- something he expresses a lot. Because of that, Durand respects him for it. If only because he tends to let everyone else know too.
- Lightsurge - The Venomous Web's most highly regarded Mu and arcane specialist. Durand is bemused by Lightsurge most of the time, mostly because she seems to find him gorgeous. Because of this, he usually gives her crap whenever he can find an opportunity to. He does respect her talent however and sees her as one of the more important members of the Web.
- Operative Caine - Caine is extremely tall; A trait that easily makes him one of the most intimidating members of the Venomous Web. Caine is surprisingly calm and cool most of the time- not to mention he tries to keep the peace among the ranks too, making less work for Durand. Something that Durand likes very much. He finds Caine to be a valuable member to the Venomous web because of his combat strength and cool-headedness.
- Operative Lancaster - Durand may consider Lancaster to be the best soldier in the Web. He has all of the traits needed to go places in Arachnos and certainly all of the traits to be a perfect soldier. Despite his teasingly gay attitude, Durand wouldn't want him to leave his squad for a second. He just wishes that Lancaster had the motivation to go as far as his potential lets him.
Soldiers
- Dr. Fenix - The Venomous Web's top physician and sadist, Dr. Fenix, is pretty well liked by Durand. He sees Fenix as one of the most important people in his troop, being the medic and all. People will often mention how disturbing Fenix is and about the weird things he does, but Durand will usually just play dumb and pretend that he's a perfectly normal doctor.
- Longfang Slug - Slug is the munitions expert of the Venomous Web. And Durand sees him as an enormous nerd. He'll often give him crap about it, but does remind Slug just as often that he does a good job.
- Night Widow Devora - Durand hates Devora greatly. While she is skilled in the arcane, something that is very useful in the Venomous Web, it turns out that she's a bitch. He respects her skill, but doesn't have much respect for her otherwise and will often take a few jabs at her when the opportunity arises.
- Night Widow Revenant - Revenant is one of Durand's pet projects. This Night Widow was a loud mouthed cretin for a long time, often getting on Durand and the others' nerves. So finally Durand had enough, and he gave Revenant one of his "Shape up or be Arachnoid bait" speeches. Revenant turned it around, earning a little respect from Durand and proving that he has what it takes to be something better than a big mouthed moron.
- Operative McGogle - McGogle is too blatently Irish for Durand to like. Often times, he'll tell him to quit being so Irish and when he fails, he gets sent to mop duty. Durand hates him, but knows he's an able soldier. Plus, he likes catching him when he slips up with trying not to be Irish.
- Operative Ryals - One of the head technicians in the Venomous Web is Ryals. Durand gets annoyed at some of the frivolous things that he bugs him about at times, but does like Ryals' talents enough to overlook it. Ryals is usually the first that he sends on his special technical projects.
- Pulse Jet - Pulse Jet, or Mercedes, used to be an old buddy with Durand. Whenever speaking to Pulse, Durand almost completely changes, actually becoming friendly, laughing, and having a good time. Durand was very happy that Pulse ended up in his squadron, being quoted as saying "He's just about the only one I can actually talk to."
- Refined - This Fateweaver is regarded as one of the best Durand has. He considers her one of the best, if not the best, psionic they have. She is one of the few people that Durand actually likes in the Web, which says volumes in itself.
- Seer Dezya - Durand hates Dezya. She has talent, but he feels she tries entirely too hard to show off at times. Not to mention that she has mouthed off to Durand at least once, instantly making her one of his least liked people in the Venomous Web. She's also a pilot, but Durand likes Jago better.
Rookies
- Blood Widow Hawkins - Durand hates Hawkins an incredible amount. He finds her annoying, whiny, and a massive brown noser. He doesn't even hesitate at the opportunity to cut her down, much to her dismay. Durand doesn't see her as much of a soldier, and is annoyed that Arrivederci just keeps her around to anger him.
- Operative Marks - Marks is another one of Durand's special projects. He gave him a speech about how he is worthless due to his obnoxious behavior, inability to listen, and his getting drunk. Marks has begun to turn it around though, slowly earning Durand's favor.
- Spiderbait - Operative Cupcake as he's known by is one of Durand's more embarassing soldiers. He calls him Princess due to his pink armor, effeminant attitude, and his general lack of being able to take anything serious. But he's an excellent cook and that alone is a positive reason to keep him around, though he does torment Cupcake when he is forced to be around him if possible.
