Dead Eye Jake/Fight Record
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Famed outlaw Dead Eye Jake has spent the majority of his life experiencing some form of combat. In recent times this has become a source of pride and amusement for him. Battling opponents in the sanctioned arena system situated throughout the Rogue Isles, Paragon City, and Pocket D provide him entertainment and a chance to demonstrate his fighting savvy. Though sometimes these engagements are personal or fought with a purpose, Jake just takes a natural pleasure in beating people to a pulp.
Some have argued that Jake "cheats" by using members of his personal Dead Eye Gang to help him fight. These people fail to realize, or prefer not to, that this option is entirely available to the outlaw according to the official rules of the arena. Of course, Jake never complains when his opponents use an army of killer robots, have super strength, stab him with swords, fly, shoot lasers, throw fireballs, or any of the things he is unable to do.

Million Dollar Bonanza Challenge
Started as a way to encourage competition for the notorious outlaw, the Challenge is randomly instituted in the Pocket D Monkey Fight Club. Trusting in his abilities to defeat any and all contenders, Dead Eye Jake offers at least one million dollars to anyone who can beat him in a one-on-one match, using the kiosks available in the Fight Club to take him and his opponent to an appropriate location.
Listed below is the official record of the Challenge, starting at fight #18, when Jake began keeping a log of the participants. Naturally the claims of fights fought and won before this record was began could be regarded as dubious, since there is no documentation, but the reputation of the outlaw, along with the fact that he acknowledges at least two legitimate losses, should quell any suspicions as to his numerous victories.
Among the many no-names Jake battled and beat in this capacity, a few people of note like Run Riot have been defeated. Old shipmates Kichi and Sungazer also tried and failed. One of the two Jake admits losing to is Gunsang, the other forgotten. The undocumented draw to take place was with the monstrous Nidhoggur, with neither able to score a single knockout.

Jake told her what part of his anatomy DJ Zero could smooch, so she offered to fight him. Despite her size and gender, Jake gave no quarter to the heroine, scoring an easy 10-0 win in the bowels of the "Cargo Ship". After the fight she said Jake could continue to use the speaker system if he wanted. |
23 | 2/17/09 | Sione | 50 Mastermind | Win | 7:01 | Another leader of his own group of thugs, complete with dark powers of his own, chose to take on the Dead Eye Gang to see how well he matched up. The initial clash was fairly even, until Jake made a tactical withdraw, and then seized the upper hand by finishing his opponent with his own two guns. After the first fall Jake gave no mercy, hunting his enemy down within the limited space of the "Tech Lab" construct, punctuating a 5-0 victory. |
25 | 2/17/09 | Rochefort | 32 Stalker | Win | 5:24 | A swordsman bravely accepted Jake's offer to win the million dollar prize. Fought in the "Office" with both combatants scaled down to threat level 31, Jake and the gang won handily with 5 straight knockouts. |

His undead minions clashed with the Dead Eye Gang in the "Cargo Ship" but came up short. After scoring 2 knockouts, Jake consented to letting his enemy properly prepare all his zombies before attacking again. When they did, they were promptly defeated. After a straight 5-0 victory, their leader admitted that Jake was good. |
29 | 2/26/09 | Vehas | 50 Scrapper | Draw | 15:00+ | A creature resembling a Council vampyri with a knack for stressing his S's approached Jake to take his challenge. Once again on board the "Cargo Ship" they clashed for an extended period of time. Although effectively working to take out Jake's Dark Servant on several occasions, and then other of his gang members, Jake weathered the storm and eventually pressed a constant attack. However, aided with super speed and high regenerative powers, his enemy continued to survive. After nearly 20 minutes of battle, Jake stated he was bored of chasing him down. Citing that the purpose of the Challenge was for someone to defeat him in order to win the money, Jake declared his opponent the loser. Officially it ended in a draw, with neither combatant gaining a knockout. |
30 | 3/04/09 | Kitty Heart | 50 Tanker | Win | 10:00 | A small, pink-haired, cat-eared woman wearing a police officer's uniform responded to Jake's challenge, claiming she would be his toughest opponent yet. When the two met inside the "Monkey Cage" she was unable to make good on her boast against the combined might of the outlaw and his gang. Jake won 3-0. |
31 | 3/04/09 | Legionbreaker | 50 Brute | Win | 10:00 | A man sporting armor similiar to a Roman answered Jake's challenge, though he freely admitted beforehand he probably had little chance of victory. Jake proved his doubts in "Perez Park" where after his foe was kind enough to wait and let him prepare for combat, the gang systematically destroyed him. Throughout the fight's banter the man revealed he was a demon, though Jake insisted he worked at making pizzas. Jake won 7-0. |
32 | 3/04/09 | Giordano Boys | 50 Mastermind | Win | 10:00 | A genuine Italian resteraunt owner accepted Jake's challenge, the ante of which was upped to 3 million, with the condition that if Jake won he would be served free meals for life (offer not good for his gang members). Outlaws and gangsters clashed in the muddy waters of "Perez Park" until Jake's men took the upper hand, felling the mafia crimelord. Jake punctuated his victory with 2 more knockouts, the final score coming to 3-0 in his favor. Afterward Jake was assured he would get his free dinners whenever he stopped by the Port Oakes eatery. |
33 | 3/29/09 | Chun-Tzu | 14 Scrapper | Win | 3:25 | Fought on the "Cargo Ship", Jake won by scoring 5 dominations in less than 4 minutes. |
34 | 3/29/09 | Steel-Soul | 50 Brute | Win | 9:00 | Jake dominated his foe 5 times in less than 10 minutes inside the "Monkey Cage". |
35 | 3/29/09 | Riplash | 22 Scrapper | Win | 10:00 | Meeting in the "Tech Lab", Jake's scrappy foe scored a point early on. Jake returned the favor several times over and solidified his win at 6-1. |
36 | 5/7/09 | Cloudslip | 50 Corrupter | Lose | 10:00 | For the first time ever in the recorded fights of the famed Bonanza Challenge, Jake tasted unequivocal defeat at the electrified hands of a woman named Cirri. It was in the polished "Tech Lab" battleground that Jake attempted to muster the full force of the Dead Eye Gang against this little slip of a girl, but to no avail, as her combination of gale winds, biting frost, and powerful electric bolts scattered the outlaw's forces and consistently dropped him. After scoring 8 straight victories, the fight mercifully ended for the gunman, after which he paid a total of 2 million to the lucky lady. Like every defeat, however, Jake prefers to look upon it as a learning experience, and since then has set out to determine a strategy to beat the girl and others like her. In his heart Jake has vowed a rematch, with a very different outcome than the first. |
37 | 7/22/09 | Wild Childs | 50 Stalker | Win | 10:00 | After losing a bout with boredom, Jake reinstated his challenge months later. The first and only participant to answer his call at the time was a feisty she-tiger. Fighting in the over-sized battleground of Skyway City, the combatants eventually found each other so that in less than a span of ten minutes Jake and company could defeat his foe, 4-0. Afterwards Jake had another business proposition for the woman, but she was not interested. |
38 | 7/22/09 | Redoubtable | 50 Tanker | Win | 10:00 | Trying to generate competition, Jake went on a limb and offered to give away the cash prize to anyone able to score a single knockout against him. The only one to answer the call was shield-wielding warrior. Although Jake warned him that due to the special circumstance of the fight that he would go all out, there was some dispute on whether or not Jake was stacking the deck at the battle kiosk. Regardless, the challenger and the gang fought it out in Perez Park, where Jake scored the first knockout. Although it was almost tied in the end, his opponent failed to beat him or the clock, securing the outlaw's victory at 1-0. |
Jake has since retired after these last recorded battles. He has issued his challenge again at times, beating all combatants, but he has not been as meticulous in recording the details.
Battling Bets
A gambling man, Jake has often wagered on the outcome of his fights, usually with good results. A standard ploy of his when challenged by a pretty lady is to get a kiss if he wins, which tends to motivate the outlaw. However, other bets have been made, with fates being decided in the relatively safe and fair confines of the official arena circuit. A few of these incidents have been significant episodes in his life.
The Xena Incident
One day the Queen of New Vega attempted to arrest Jake in Pocket D as a representative of a group called Black Cell. As Xena was an acquaintance of the outlaw, Jake offered her the following arrangement: A fight would be held, whereby if Jake lost he would go quietly into the alien's custody. If Jake won, Xena would surrender herself willingly into his custody. He also gave her the option to have another fight in her place, which she agreed to, selecting a fellow agent who happened to be nearby.

2/05/09 | Faded Retribution | 50 Warshade | Win | 10:00 | Fighting for his own freedom and ownership of the Vegan queen, Jake dominated his fight against his Kheldian foe in the "Tech Lab" with 7 straight knockouts. |
After his crushing victory, however, Xena refused to follow through with their arrangement. This started a series of events that eventually ended with Xena escaping Jake's home with the aid of an unknown accomplice, though not before she got a bullet in the leg. This caused a mild ruckus among certain folk, one of whom challenged Jake to battle two days later. This individual agreed to another wager. In this case, if the outlaw lost, he would have to kiss Xena's boots, beg forgiveness, and never bother her again. If Jake won, the loser would ascend to the lofty role of a personal "drink monkey" and serve Jake beverages while in the bar.

2/07/09 | Sky-Scar | 43 Mastermind | Win | 10:00 | Jake toyed with his opponent during the early goings, but once his foe showed that he came to fight, he got serious. This did not stop him humiliating his enemy in the later half of the match. Jake won, 3-0. |
More hostilities occurred about a week later, the next time Jake saw the Vegan in the D, speaking with some friends. Jake made sure Xena knew that their affair was not over, threatening to do her majesty in at a later time. This caught the ire of Detective Parker, who came to her defense. After some words were spoken, a challenge was made to settle their differences in the arena.

2/14/09 | Detective Parker | 50 Dominator | Win | 10:00 | The two showed up in "Perez Park" to do battle, but it was not long before Jake and the gang proved their dominance. Toward the later half of the match, Jake dismissed the majority of his gang, and in the end got a final knockout with only a pair of guns and the wraith-like "Dark Servant" to watch his back. The official score was 6-0 in favor of the bandit. |
At long last, Jake got into contact with his old acquaintance, the infamous Seer Malak and told him about his situation, as well as gifting him with a vial of Xena's blood, taken from when she was injured at his house. The diabolical leader of the Empyrean Mandate concocted a plan on the spot, arranging to meet up with Xena at a bar in the Golden Giza in St. Martial. As instructed, Jake crashed the party, and again shot the Vegan royal. Malak collected her up with the stated intent of imprisoning her and replacing her with toy duplicates. Jake gave a final warning to the woman that if she ever escaped Malak's grasp, he would return to hunt her down.
Heroes Hate Hats
One day while in Pocket D, as sometimes happens to criminal braggarts, Jake ran afoul of a couple of young heroes from Paragon City. As it went, Jake challenged to fight either one of them in the arena, but they refused, citing that Jake being allowed to use his gang in the fight was unfair. Try as he might, the outlaw could not convince them to face him individually, so he offered to take them on two at a time. Although he doubted his success, he thought it a fair trade-off for the chance to beat them up a little. As an added bonus, bets were made, and if he lost Jake would be forced to relinquish his trademark black cowboy hat.

2008 | Starswarm | 50 Scrapper | Smoking Mirrors | 50 Controller | Lose | 10:00 | Fought in the depths of the "Cargo Ship", Jake tried time and again to coordinate his gang into a winning arrangement, but was denied. The combination of Maxwell James' befuddling mental attacks and Richard Graves' fast and furious fighting style proved too much for him to handle. In the end they punished the outlaw repeatedly. This did not stop Jake from demanding a rematch, which they had, though try as he might the dynamic duo remained in control. The exact score was not recorded. |
Jake admitted defeat, and gave up his hat, and would remain hatless until he got another out of his closet. Although he lost, he considers the match an implicit acknowledgement that it would take at least two acknowledged superheroes to stop him and his gang. To this day one of the combatants has agreed to face off against him alone, but Jake is willing to face the pair a third time, anticipating a different outcome.
One Hundred Million Dollars
Long after his official retirement, Jake received a message from a former member of the disbanded Dead Eye Gang, Wild Bunch Rose. A beastly man by the name of Crom Cruach, who Jake had schooled years ago in his early days by beating him in a fight, wanted a rematch against the aging bandit. After dusting off his cowboy hat Jake returned to Pocket D to find the monstrous man in question.
After trying to get Crom's attention several times, Jake used the building's intercom to invite the man to duel. When at last he responded and met up with the outlaw to discuss terms, Jake offered his own: a one hundred million dollar bet! Crom readily agreed. Several of Crom's companions in attendance also wanted to get in on the wager, but unfortunately Jake could only cover the one bet with Crom at the time. All parties decided that the fight would best take place in the Monkey Fight Club's own cage.

8/26/10 | Crom Cruach | 50 Brute | Win | 10:00 | Set in the close quarters of a cage, Jake quickly called his men to arms to help take care of his powerful opponent. Although the competition was more than fierce, and for a while the bandit was only a hair's breadth away from being knocked out, Jake felled the mighty beast for the first point. With such momentum on his side, Jake soon scored again and again, beating down the monster man with guns blazing. By the end of the match Jake even amused himself by fetching a beer at the bar. In the end the outlaw dominated the fight with a 7-0 victory. |
Afterwards Jake left the bar, to the amazement of some and chagrin of others, one hundred million dollars richer.
Gang Wars
Jake has had some dealings with members of Rogue Isle street gangs that enjoy fighting as much as he. One day he came upon a pair of big bruisers who had been issuing challenges of their own, and offered to fight both of them at the same time. They obliged.

2/08/09 | Gutrippa | 14 Brute | Bartholomew Chain Gun | 37 Mastermind | Lose | 10:00 | All were scaled down to level 13. Jake found himself with more of a disadvantage than just facing two foes when he realized various suppression fields were also added to the "Cargo Ship" arena, rendering his jetpack useless and enfeebling his healing powers. Thus his enemies got an early lead and succeeded in taking him down several times. Jake soon learned the formula for beating the pair, but ran out of time before he could press his advantage. He got 4 knockouts, his foes collectively earning 5. |
Jake offered a rematch, of which he was sure he would win. They agreed at first, but one of them wandered off instead. Instead Jake offered to teach the leader of the "St. Thomas Wolves Gang" a thing or two about fighting. The young man took his challenge.

2/08/09 | Wolves Gang Leader | 39 Mastermind | Win | 11:49 | Both respective gang leaders and their men were scaled down to level 37 for the match in the "Office Building". After Jake scored a knockout and gave the other time to regroup, the street thug succeeded in scoring a knockout of his own on the bandit. Jake returned in force and beat him down. Several more times Jake permitted his oppponent to fully set up his forces and attack when ready, wiping them out each time. In the end the Jake won a decisive 5-1 victory. |
Unlikely Losses
Winning would not feel so good, if losing did not feel so bad. Over the years Jake has lost his share of fights, though most of these occurred when he was inexperienced at battling meta-humans. He tries to view these times as learning experiences, and works harder after each loss to make sure it never happens again. For this reason, the thought of losing a fight nowadays, particularly when he goes all-out, is laughable to him. Still, some humiliations continue to dog him, even if only in his own mind.
Jake tends to acknowledge the victor when soundly defeated, believing it to be part of being a man. However, that does not stop him from sometimes diminishing the importance of such a loss when talking about it later.
Wacky Widows
In recent times meta-humans of increased skill and battle prowess, often with stealthy defensive and mental abilities, have populated the Rogue Isles. Sometimes collectively labeled as "Widows" due to their powers being similar to Arachnos agents of the same name, they are often considered a cut above the standard villain. When they first began to surface they were demons in the arena, and Jake had a hard time battling them at first.
Among these, the powerful telepath Forced Insanity was one, and he was able to triumph over Jake and the gang. Seer Malak also beat Jake twice in fierce competition.
However, though still formidable foes, these Widows have become less of a threat over time, and the Dead Eye Gang has proven they can stand against their assault and still win. Of the two cited here, Jake fought with Malak a third time, and secured victory. The erstwhile leader of the Notorious Six has disappeared, though, along with his group.
The One That Got Away
Jake was repeatedly challenged by Ryu when he visited the D, though for a long time he refused, as for a time he had no interest of fighting in the arena. Ryu persisted, often insulting the outlaw, which in itself was a throwback to an earlier conflict Jake had with his friend. One day though, Jake finally had a hankering for some fighting, and battle ensued.

2008 | Thorn Bandit | 50 Stalker | Loss | 10:00 | Fought in "Perez Park", Jake rarely had time to assemble his gang before Ryu's attack would come out nowhere, striking hard and fast with a blade. Time and again Jake fell in the wet swamp waters thanks to his enemy's sneaky tactics. It was completely one-sided, dealing Jake a harsh loss |
Having finally gained his fight and victory, Ryu stopped pestering Jake about it.
It was not long after this that Jake improved his battle tactics immensely, learning to coordinate his Dead Eye Gang into shielding maneuvers while at the same time plugging their attacker full of holes. Up until now the fighting style of a "Stalker" was beyond Jake's ability to handle, but he learned, preparing to defeat Ryu or any other similiar fighter in future engagements. However, the Thorn Bandit eventually dissapeared without a trace, so there was no official rematch. Jake has no doubt that if they fought again he would secure an easy victory, but sadly there is no way to prove it.
