Personality

Aurian was always fairly quiet for a Singer. He was expressive and tactile by nature, like his brethren, but his passions seemed to run a little cooler. He adores music and Singing, but he is just as interested in fine arts, able to sense the expressiveness in a poem, a story, a drawing or a painting as easily as he can within a voice. He is loyal to his brethren, but perhaps not as militantly so. Instead, he is contemplative, observant, and willing to stand on the sidelines until he is needed. In a battle, he is more likely to stay back and protect innocents and heal his brethren than charge in, but if he is the only one there, he will not hesitate to risk his own safety to protect others.

Character History

(Spoilers... if you are interacting with these characters and don't wish to know the truth just yet, you have been warned)

Backstory

Aurian is one of the Singers of the Arma Lucis, and far younger than many of his brethren. He grew up relatively sheltered, and was trained in the retreat near Salamanca. He believes in their cause, and was very in touch with his inborn ability to heal and strengthen others. Pure of heart, genuine in his desire to help others, he manifested fully at a relatively young age, and is considered by the others to be one of the most promising of his generation.

Past Events

Recently, Aurian was assigned to keep watch over nearby Paragon City, as many of the others who regularly saw to its safety had been suddenly called away. Some strange happenings were occurring in the Rogue Isles, apparently linked to the disappearance of Xandros Kelestis. He didn't know much of what was involved, but was more than willing to take up a recently vacated guardianship of part of Paragon City.

Recent Events

Aurian found himself in Galaxy City shortly after arriving in Paragon, where he was quickly swallowed up and confused by all the commotion a big city has to offer. He sought the refuge of Gemini Park to find a moment's peace and quiet, and to clear his thoughts and refocus, when he felt the presence of one of the beings he had come here to warn away from Paragon... an Infernal.

She was ashen-skinned, scarred, and strangely quiet... instead of trying to broker deals with the nearby Hellions, she seemed to be in the park for the same reasons he was. It was the look she gave him when she first saw him, though, that stayed his hand... amazement, familiarity, and an unmistakable pain. Instead of challenging one another, the two of them found themselves talking. Theta, as she called herself, offered to show him around Paragon, much to his disbelief, and even assisted him in fighting the Hellions.

Their energy clashed, as would be expected, but not sharply enough to make working together impossible, and the two of them found themselves in an uneasy truce. Neither of them wanted to state the obvious. Instead, they focused on their goals. He waited for her to break the illusion, to do something diabolic... but instead she amazed him with the way she seemed to take care of her own, even over the phone. Still they tried not to bring up the fact that they were each waiting for the other to snap and attack. Finally, the tension became too much, and Theta challenged his unease. She wanted to know why he felt so guilty about accepting her help when she could tell he was just as human as she was. Aghast, Aurian tried to prove to her that there was no human spark to her soul... and he found out that she was right. Deeply startled and disturbed by what he had discovered, Aurian bolted.

He couldn't stop thinking about her, as much as he tried, so he decided to find a way to track down the Legacy Chain, which he knew was working in Eastgate to fight the threats of the cultists in the Circle of Thorns. If anyone could answer some of his questions, they might. Upon arriving in "The Hollows", he again met up with Theta. Unable to disguise his unwarranted enthusiasm at seeing her again, he struck up another conversation... and was almost beside himself when she offered to help him find his allies. She was as good as her word, leading him through the Hollows until he found a patrol under attack by the Thorns. Aurian dashed in to save them, and by the time he'd finished speaking with the Legacy Chain, Theta had disappeared.

Concerned for her safety, Aurian began to spend more and more time in Gemini Park, hoping that, if she was well, she would show up again. Just when he had figured it was not to be, Theta surprised him. This time, there was no denying the tension between them as they tried to avoid too much eye contact. The contrast of seeing that uncanny intellect glimmer in her one good eye, the fiery sunset hair shining against the gray of her skin, that inexplicably bright smile occasionally flickering across that face which was undeniably infernal... He tried his best not to admit that he was drawn to her, mentally berated himself for not challenging her on that first day, until she unearthed a passage in the book he'd been reading which was an unshakable argument in favor of what he'd been doing... even more important than Justice was Mercy, understanding. Her quiet, thoughtful insight moved him to tears... how could one of -them- know so much of what was good and right? Though he cannot bring himself to act on his feelings for her, he can no longer deny that they do, in fact exist. As they have agreed to meet in the park regularly to discuss literature, Aurian will have to summon up every last ounce of willpower to make certain he maintains control and does not actually cross that forbidden line...

Powers

Aurian, as a singer, can channel the voice of the Authority, weakening his opponents and even causing them pain. He can also heal and strengthen his allies, apparently, even those of Infernal blood...

Vulnerabilities

His nature is so open and his desire to aid so true, that he often pulls too much of the pain from others, taking on some of that pain himself. He also can exhaust himself if he tries to keep up his elevated healing energy levels for too long.

Rogue Gallery

The Infernals... those who would harm and corrupt humanity to stray from the Truth. Apparently, of late, some obvious exceptions have been made...
