Origin
James Blackbear was brought up knowing he was going to be a hero. From the age of three, he has been trained in meditation and magic, preparing him for the day when he would become a shaman for the world and his people. James knew that his grandfather had been the first to wear a mask and go by the name of Wakan Man back during World War Two, where he fought Nazi supers such as Captain Axis and Reichsmaiden. And James knew that his Grandfather had died fighting the Nazi soldiers. The mantle of Wakan Man had been taken up by James's father, and James was very proud to be following in their footsteps.
But when the first Rikti War came, James's father was killed fighting the invaders, and the boy's training stepped up a notch. Now at age, 18, he is ready to assume the mantle of his ancestors. His dreams have led him to Paragon City, where he seeks his destiny.
Personality
James has two distinct personalities. When dealing with a mystical problem, or helping a teammate with their nightmares, James can be cold, calculating and intellectual. Despite having no official schooling beyond the third grade, James is an excellent judge of human character and can often see the underlying psychological reasons behind people's dreams and actions. When he is in work mode, he is the ultimate professional, able to keep confidences and secrets.
When he is just hanging out or fighting generic villains, however, James is fairly laid back and fun loving. Your typical teenager. He has been known to get wild, sneak beers and wake up with new tattoos. He can be flirtatious with women, but is unlikely to follow through as his heart still belongs to a woman from his past.
Affiliations
James is a member of the All Star Teen Sentinels, having been recruited by Kid-Olympus. His closest friends on the team seem to be those whom he has helped the most with their dreams, Six of Diamonds, Sentinel of Twilight, and Zeiban.
Special Powers
Aside from the normal Dark/Dark Defnder powers, James has the ability to walk in dreams and locate others through the dream realm. This is a form of astral projection, and while he is doing it, his physical body is almost helpless.
Within the dream realm, his powers are almost infinite, being limited solely by his imagination. The only thing stronger than him in the dream is the person whose dream it is. Usually this is offset by the fact that James knows he is in a dream, while the dreamer thinks it is reality and is therefore limited in the scope of what he or she thinks they can accomplish. The downside is that any dammage taken by james while in the dream is instantly reflected on his body in the real world. James could very easily die while within a dream.
James will also ocasionally have prophetic dreams that guide him in his life. It is such a dream that has led him to Paragon City.
Trivia
Wakan Man is a reroll of the character originally named Nezerah, and is based off of an old champions character played by a friend in college.
Wakan Man really dislikes all the "American" themed heroes running around in their red-white-and-blue and will usually give them a hard time. The one exception to this is the heroine American Promise who does not fit the normal blond-haired Blue-eyed look of most of the Patriotic types.
He has scars on his chest from the piercings of the Sundance ceremony of the Lakota, as well as scars on his neck from where he was once bitten by a vampire whom he had fought.
Has a Praetorean opposite running around the Isles named the Crying Shaman.
