History
Tian Shang Lung had only recently arrived in The Rogue Isles and was therefore deemed to be an easy enough target for assassin trainees. If not, the trainees are expendable and any who failed would deserve their fates. The Rogue Isles is a land of Darwinian survival taken to the darkest extremes.
Laurel and her partner, a Snake/Human hybrid woman named Ssybil, broke into Tian Shang Lung's lair with relative ease. Together they dispatched the few thugs retained by Tian Shang Lung as bodyguards.
However, they would soon discover that confronting the Celestial Dragon would not be nearly as easy. Rather than dispatching them, Tian Shang Lung recognized that she would need better protection than the pathetic Hellions and Skulls littering Mercy Island.
Using her mental manipulation powers, Tian Shang Lung instilled a deep sense of loyalty to her in the two would-be assassins. Laurel was re-christened as Kuai Lau Shu (獪 老 鼠) or The Cunning Rat. To further cement their loyalties, Tian Shang Lung bonded the two girls together with a mystical ritual known as Soul Twins.
Kuai Lau Shu and her newly soul-twinned sister, Hei Se, shared a bond greater than blood. When separated, they would feel a pain which would increase the longer they were apart. This was used as incentive by Tian Shang Lung to ensure that they would always return to her, for she made sure that the two would never be assigned on the same mission.
Using her Arachnos training and further tutelage from Tsoo martial arts masters, Kuai Lau Shu developed into a formidable assassin. She kills without remorse and always efficiently. She does not care about the war between the Zodiac Guardsmen. She has no regard for the Jade Emperor or the Lady Kuan Yin. All she cares about is returning to the presence of Hei Se and alleviate the mounting pain in her body.
Description
When on assignment, Kuai Lau Shu is all-business. But, when safely in the presence of Hei Se, she relaxes and has been known to be playfully flirtatious. She has been seen toying with the affections of Qiang Hou, since appealing to his vanity is so easy. Hei Se often disapproves of this behavior, but chooses to ignore it. The pain that the two of them endure when separated is too great to deny a momentary pleasure.
Despite all her skills, Kuai Lau Shu still has a great deal to learn. She is not as powerful as the other Fallen Guardsmen and does not enjoy as much independence. Even without her need to be in the proximity of Hei Se, Kuai Lau Shu prefers staying to the shadows in the Rogue Isles. She believes that Arachnos may still be looking for her and wanting to exact payment for failing her mission. She will avoid Arachnos agents, whenever possible. When she must deal with them, she relies on her disguise to keep anyone from recognizing her. But, she will never, even come near a Fortunata. Her fears may be misplaced, after all, there are innumerable Arachnos agents and she was only ever a lowly assassin trainee. Still, the risk of getting caught comes with too high of a price to take such a chance.
She has great skills in concealment and almost always takes her targets by surprise. In those instances when she fails to kill with a single blow, Kuai Lau Shu can engage her opponents in swordplay. However, even then, the battle is often short-lived. Although, once she did take the time to flense the skin off of the hand of a Hellion foolish enough to attempt to cop a feel.
Kuai Lau Shu wields a high-tech katana with great expertise. The blade is honed to a mono-molecular edge, allowing her to slice through even the hardest armor. It is surprisingly light, yet strong.
