Little Miss Vagary
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Where this little girl came from
Little Miss Vagary started out as a character I made so that I could be spontaneous and lively. I took her to the D and her personality shone. She made friends and her story grew until she became one of my main characters. She's gone through a lot of turmoil as you'll see below but overall she's fun.
Do you have a home little girl?
Vagary appeared out of nowhere in Paragon, wandering the streets of King's Row. Somehow she made her way to the Have-A-Heart Shelter and claimed a bed. Not attending school she found the D and instantly found a place she loved. The people, the sounds, the lights, the smells... all of it made her happy. Eventually people began to wonder where she belonged and to ask questions.
Unfortunately she had few answers. Twelve. That was the age she said she was. But how she got to Paragon, who her family is or was, all details are lost. She remembers nothing before Paragon.
The search for parents
This young girl decided that what she wanted most of all was parents. So she went searching. Her first attempt was Rex (GrandInquisitor) who was a member of the White Knights. She was going to go live with him but circumstances prevented that. Amanda (Southern Flame), another White Knight and the woman who ran the shelter Vagary was staying at, took an instant liking to the girl, eventually asking Vagary if she would be her daughter.
Riz (Rizpoly), a White Knight as well, found a place in the little girl's heart that no other did. They became inseperable as she took up being his sidekick and she asked him to be her dad. At first he said no but his heart couldn't deny that he loved her like a daughter and so he too asked Vagary to be his daughter.
Now with two parents, living separately as there only connection being their friendship and their positions within the Knights, she did her best to have a normal life.
Just what that life was
Alright, now we can get to the trouble and to the joys. The frustrations and the joys.
A place to serve
The White Knights welcomed her with open arms. A place to work, after schools a few days a week as well being an organization filled with loving people. One of those loving people was Angel Wing. Like an uncle she loved him to death. Next to Riz he was the one she wanted to spend time with. Of course there was Bojay, Ms. Independence's and Lord Paladin's son. Like a brother, no end of trouble was caused for him because of the little girl's curiosity.
The other Knights were like family and she became close to Father Jericho, Lana Firetouch, Flametalon and Ms. Peppy.
Nightmares and Heroes
The little girl has nightmares. Horrible ones. A couple struck her hard at the D, and this was before she was a Knight. One of them she woke up from and was okay. They were there to take care of her, to love her and tell her it would be okay.
Unfortunately her desire to make friends led to some trouble. Lord Supremacy (L.S.), someone who she found out later had issues with the White Knights entered her head and taught her to build a wall. She saw no problem with this but the rest did. So they took care of her, even having to have one of their members take the lead, going inside her head with three others to help wake her up and to remove him from her head. It was a battle.
One participant was Vince, or VV as Vagary calls him. His role was particularly important as he became the "key". She claimed him as her Hero and their link has become a Heart Thread Bond, knowing and feeling the presence of each other no matter where they are. What they found in her mind was something else. There is far more to this girl than meets the eye.
Pocket D & Friends
She says hello to just about everyone. Isaac the bartender is a personal friend, being the only one who can make the perfect Vagary Soda... a drink made with 2/3rds orange stuff and 1/3rd Sprite. There have been many others to take up residence in the huge heart she has.
Vagary considers most she meets to be friends... and is famous for giving hugs. She can often be seen holding/swinging the hands of those she's most comfortable with.
There was a period of time when she was grounded. Her parents were afraid, as was Ms. I, that the little girl's judgment in people... the good and the bad... was far too questionable... almost dangerous and that she shouldn't be free to roam. Not when they feared L.S.
Thanks to the good thinking of Riz and Amanda, Vagary's time in the D became rare and only then with close supervision.
Sometimes things fall apart
More often than not, they do. For an eight year old... it can mean the end of the world.
They took who? Why?
There was an incident that still sits as a question at the back of a few people's minds. While playing with Zoe Brightstar, Vagary was taken by a group of lost who were accompanied by Rikti. Friends came to the rescue, finding her lying on the ground after an attempted escape. Taken to the medbay for a checkup there were lots of her friends there wanting to know what happened. One thing she remembered specifically was the name Iradu. It was through Mike Mars (Mr. Protagonist) that they learned the Iradu were a particular Religious sect from the Rikti homeworld. Why they wanted her still remains a mystery. They had yet to try again- until recently (see farther down).
Losing a friend and a Dad
Life went good for a bit. She hit security level 20 and learned about the cape... about what it means to be a hero. She also was able to finally get that hat just like her Dad's, the one she'd waited forever to be ready for her. He also bought her a guitar, planning to teach her to play just like him. His music able to teleport her away from everything. She looked just like his sidekick now with matching costumes, capes flying.
Vagary was heartbroken one night when Riz showed her the papers Amanda had given him. She was relinquishing her rights, no longer wanting to be her mother. She was now solely Riz's daughter.
It was a bit later that Riz broke some other news. He was in love. There was a woman he wanted to marry. Wary and wanting to avoid having another woman walk out on her Vagary met Jetta Yoshiyoto (Kaijitsu). Despite the older woman's stiffness towards the outside world there was a young heart inside and that clicked with the twelve year old right away. They became a family, Vagary willing to risk having a new Mom.
Tragedy hit when Mr. Zen (Zenvious) died. He was her friend and she told everybody so at his funeral. He was also Kaijitsu's boss and when he died, Kaijitsu had to take over the job, which meant she saw her less and less. But they were still a family. The wedding plans went forward and then the worst happened. Riz died. Thinking it the right time he went to face the Envoy, something which was his duty. He'd made a promise to Vagary. He'd take her. They'd face him together. But he chose not to fulfill that promise, instead going alone. And when he did. He lost. He'd never again return home to his daughter or fiancee. Another promise was broken. He'd said he'd never leave her but he did.
Kaijitsu, now the Axiom of the Foundation, thought things over and came to the conclusion that Vagary needed two parents. She used her influence and contacts to have Jade Bernough (Jade Ohm)and Kai Keller (Psi Monk) adopt the young girl. She would also move into the ranks of The Zenvious Foundation instead of the White Knights.
Mr. Zen, after a twist no one saw coming, is now alive again. This made Vagary ecstatic. Unfortunately she's only seen one White Knight in a long time- Angel Wing- A man who she thinks of as an uncle.
A friend goes away and so does the boy who's like a brother
Now a member of the Foundation, she tries to move on with her life. There's a sadness all her own but she puts on a happy face. Sadly, VV tells her he must go away for awhile. She's losing yet another person. But she wears the necklace holding the key to his apartment as well as relying on their heart-bond, which helps her know he'll come home eventually. He wasn't gone for good, having recently returned to Paragon.
Another person disappeared, leaving without a trace. Bojay. After a life changing event he moved with Vagary to the Foundation. Always a brother to her she has no clue where he went, no word left behind and no words since his disappearance. This tugs at her heart. So many people gone... so many people who leave her.
What's wrong with me?
Sometime before Riz's death Vagary began showing signs of being tired. She'd sleep but wake up not only not rested but more tired than she was before sleeping. That and headaches have been plaguing her but she's fought them. Determined to be upbeat she puts on a hyper-face and functions by pushing the headaches away. Her yawns and dozing off have given her away. Graff (Graffiti Samurai) made her promise to go get a checkup and she did. Kai took her but there was nothing found wrong with her.
Vagary fought desparately not to tell since in her mind it was the tiredness and headaches that gave Riz reason to fight the Envoy without her. She waited with held breath to see if her new parents would leave her or stick around. They haven't gone anywhere and it's obvious that she's found a warm and welcome home.
More than anyone thought was there
When Mr. Zen was arrested for the murder of Jenna Hagan, Vagary acted strangely. After having touched a knife that had been a focus for a metaconcert- one with tremendous power and evil behind it- something slipped and she was no longer Vagary Keller. A new entity seemed to have a hold on her. This led to those in the Foundation having to strap her down in the Medbay. Mike knocked her out with his abilities and when she woke up she was as she was but hurt and upset. She had no clue what had happened. After a trip into her mind by Maggie (Maggie Accident), they had a lead. They had to find her hero.
After this incident it was determined that Vagary Keller would never be allowed to be alone, save for using the restroom. Someone-- somehow-- must always have an eye on her.
This meant Vincent Meres and after awhile they did indeed find him and glean what they could from him. Kaijitsu, Kai, Shelly Lightfoot, Nick and Jet met with him at the D. He didn't want to talk at first but did in the end, making them promise NOT to tell the little Girl anything he said. They promised and he told them that there were two entities that appeared female inside her. He'd spoken to both at different times, though one of them-- Nix-- seemed to be more about doing good for Vagary than the other- Mias.
Vagary had a connection with Jenna that had to be broken when an attack by a mind controlled member of the Foundation was made on Mr. Zen. Again, Vagary remembers nothing.
Some time later, during an attempt to use the previously described knife, Vagary took an opportunity to run off with it. When she exited the Foundation she was accosted by Jenna Hagan who used a tranquiler to get the knife and her comm, letting herself into the Foundation. The young girl wasn't held long and was released. Upon being found and returned to the medbay she went to sleep and immediately Nix appeared- lecturing those in the room on their lack of protection and safe-keeping of Vagary. She didn't say who she was but the current theory is that she's an older Vagary-- somehow.
Mr. Zen seems to know more about her than anyone but even he isn't telling much.
Sometime around when all this was happening Mr. Zen let it be known that Vagary was NOT twelve. Rather she was a mere eight years old. If anyone would know that truth... he would.
Life is Good
The little girl finds happiness.
A Revelation!
Her adopted brother, Jeffrey, had been stolen. This had been a long and complicated issue for a good while for her parents Jade (Jade Ohm) and Kai (Psi Monk). However something wonderful happened recently. He was known to her all a long! No longer a big sister... she's now a little sister to Mike Mars, who, it turns out is Jeffrey. This she finds exciting! Though it sucks she can't be a big sister she has a Big Little Brother- as she calls Mike. He, amazingly, seems to have taken to his new roll like an expert!
((See the Virtueverse pages of Jade Ohm and Hero Prime for more concerning this particular story plot.))
The Foundation Family
All of the Foundation is her family have shared a moment or two with Vagary.
Some examples: Coloring a page out of an X-Men color book (Alfred Polaris), having her barbies go to a ball (Bullet Bob), discussing family and receiving heirloom necklaces (Malheur and Shinobi Archer), playing Numb the Hands and Feet (Toxpin), learning the flute (Konane), going out for spaghetti (Pyronova), and painting a mural (Tutti Fruitti) are just some of the many.
She's been to a launch party for the Neverenders, planned and executed a lasagna food fight, and organized a game of hide and seek in the D.
Mike instigated quite a bit of trouble for Vagary but it was fun trouble. Plastic wrapping offices and filling an office with beanie babies.
The City almost loses a Hero
Vagary was eight. She was also a hero. Because of her age Jade and Kai came to the point where they thought they'd have to pull her from active duty. What good parent would let their daughter rush into harm over and over at that age! Lucky for her, however, Kai had an idea. Once brought to Mr. Zen it formulated into a theory and then, with the help of Mike and Mech (Mechanizm) it was implemented. She no longer had to actually go into the fray. Her explanation was the best one:
Dr. Rasputin: *asks with a mixture of concern and confusion* How Old are you young lady?
Little Miss Vagary: I'm eight!
Dr. Rasputin: *asks without accusation*...are you pulling an old man's leg?
Little Miss Vagary: No! You can ask. I'm eight. Promise!
Dr. Rasputin: Isn't that dangerous?
Little Miss Vagary: Not for me. I'm special. It WAS dangerous and they didn't want me to help any more but I HEAL people. I HAVE to help. I just do! So.. Dad and Mr. Zen found a way for me to help. And it's SOOOO cool!
Dr. Rasputin: *sounds less then convinced* Alright, if they say so...
Little Miss Vagary: You see... Mr. Zen's a dark matter thing... and well.. Mech and Mike made some computer stuff in the Hazard room.. I put on a suit thing and I go WOOSH through the comm and then -I'm- a dark matter thing! And I can feel and do all my stuff! But I don't get hurt.. well.. yeah.. I don't get hurt. So I get to go but I don't have to go. And it just works for me and nobody else. So I AM special. I really am!
Dr. Rasputin: *sounds relieved* Oh, that explains things, that is a great relief to me young lady.
Yes, there're more friends to make, Vagary
Nothing like life moving on and joy to be found.
The New Babysitter
Helen St. James. Or.. Saint Helen as her registered hero name goes is Vagary's babysitter. Though family and friends watch her occasionally it's the college student who usually has the job. The two were very good friends, becoming almost inseparable.
Pardner's!
Zarp Draken, a draconian who was Helen's best friend is also one of Vagary's. The two have a unique bond. It's even been commented on how amazing he is with her. They consider themselves Pardner's out to be heroes in the West. The Pink Stranger and Little Green Foot.It was the pushing of Helen and Vagary to get him a pink costume and Helen's idea for him to dress as a cowboy that led to this humorous duo. She has a costume for her roll as well and enjoys wearing it! Maybe one day a movie or something will come out with the two of them! Vagary sure hopes so.
There was a point early on in this friendship when Mike had to question it. But... things turned out alright and he is trusted a great deal by the Keller "Clan" as Zarp calls it.
The Duo has their first battle!
On a Sunday evening while having a chat there came about a hilarious situation. The Pink Stranger was forced into a duel in the Foundation base against the Wild West Villain Saint Helen! While they fought it out with guns Little Green Foot faced down The Buccaneer Cutlass.. his sword against her whip. Saint Helen didn't have a chance, not getting a shot off before she was brought down by The Pink Stranger. The Buccaneer Cutlass was eventually disarmed and surrendered. On her way to heal Helen they were all surprised to see her rise! A ZOMBIE! Zombie Helen proceeded to snatch up Little Green Foot... calling out.. "BRAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNSSS". The Pink Stranger, deathly afraid of Zombies stood back and it was The Buccaneer Cutlass who saved the day by heeding they young western heroine's call for help and slicing of Zombie Helen's head. Of course, having been bitten, Little Green Foot feared the worst... feeling the change beginning. The Pink Stranger refused to kill her and The Buccaneer Cutlass was at a loss to defy The Pink Stranger. As they talked, Helen arose AGAIN! Her head now attached she claimed to be a lich. But alas.. here it ended as Skull Boy who was playing The Buccaneer Cutlass had to leave. However the fun was had and the little game of pretend is one Vagary will cherish.
Dark and Mysterious Friend
Another friend she made was Parl Dro of Echelon. This friend she was only allowed to see in the Foundation Common's Room. He wasn't trusted, yet, to the extent of some. There were some questionable things seen on the Foundation surveillance feeds during Mike's routine review. Vagary was a bit upset, as she loved to talk in their favorite room- the Garden Room- but she's just happy to be able to see her friend.
Heroes and the wheel goes round
Things change. For the good and bad. And only time will tell where it will all lead.
Things are Fixed. Yet they begin to unravel
Vagary slipped once again into a world of headaches and nightmares. She was scared to sleep and avoided it. Friends and family confronted her, making her tell them what was wrong. Eventually her cousin Zoe was able to go into her mind, placing a block. The nightmares and headaches were gone, or rather... rerouted around.
Two examples of what's happened to cause that can be found here.
But it didn't stay that way for long.
Incidents happened. Heroes that acted unheroic to the mind of a child. Friends who betrayed her trust by making decisions she couldn't understand or agree with. The fear of those she thought of as allies. Words of hurt directed at her, whether intended or not. The lack of her abilities to do as intended.
Vagary became sick and Nix took that opportunity to make herself known once again. This time it was Helen and Zarp and Tempestra Silversong who were present in the medbay. Not saying much, as is the norm, she told Helen to Guard her, Zarp to Protect her and Tem to Uplift her. Helen questioned her, asking if it was Nix who'd spoken to Jak (The angel "guide" who is the roommate of Helen). Nix said yes she'd been the one to give Jak the order that he in turn passed to Helen. What order that was has yet to actually be revealed.
The nightmares have come back. The headaches have yet to hit but... more than likely they will.
Gaining and Losing a Hero
After a discussion at the D, Vagary blurted out a three words that will no doubt have a tremendous affect on what happens in the life of the little girl and those around her.
"You're my Hero!"
Three words and the connection to VV was severed. That instant she could no longer feel the tug and assurance of his well-being in her heart. But she knew, just knew, that this was right. Zarp Draken was her hero.
As soon as possible she sent a message to VV. He too had felt the Heart Thread bond break and was worried. At her insistence he came to the Foundation where he was introduced to both Zarp and Helen. Vagary, needing to pee and having been told by VV that he needed to talk to Zarp, made herself scarce while the adults talked. And talk they did. VV gave out all the information he could concerning the little girl he'd grown so close to.
And then? Then he left. They said goodbye. Upon leaving he gave her his swords, which morphed into daggers. The reunion and saying of goodbyes was hard. Will they ever see each other again? Neither one knows but the goodbye was said as if they would never meet again. The daggers were subsequently taken by Mr. Zen and put into a pocket Dimension of his creation. He did, however, make it clear to Vagary that ANYTIME she would want to see them all she had to do was ask.
Zarp took his new role to heart. Though they have always been close, this has brought them even closer. No one knows, yet, just what his new role of Hero entails or will require but the dragon man is willing and able to do all that he's asked.
It would also be good to note that Zarp has consented, at least to Vagary, to live in the basement of the Keller home. She's excited about this, looking forward to doing some interior design in which they turn it into a Lair. His agreement to do so was on the condition that she not worry if on some nights he didn't come home because after all he's a "Young man of 120". This has yet to happen, though it has been discussed with the Kellers. This did NOT happen. Jade, upon speaking to Zarp, suggested that he remain where he is. Her decision being mostly made due to Zarp's new relationship and it's affects on Vagary.
More than Pardners
Zarp has recently been allowed to accompany Vagary on outings. He's proven his willingness to protect the little girl and despite HIS overly trusting nature, he's believed trustworthy.
Vagary loves Zarp very much and spends as much time with him as possible. Often the pair can be found sitting and talking- she curled up on his lap and his wings cocooned around her.
He's also left the Neverenders and joined the Foundation, now numbering among their ranks and become Family to the little girl in yet another way.
A Reprieve, Recognition and the Iradu
The good, the great and the not so great.
Reprieve
Nix spoke to Vagary, watching the little girl as she slept. Her voice was carried to Helen and to Zarp. It seemed the entity could no longer bear to watch as the eight year old was torn in her mind with fear and sadness and confusion. So she granted her a reprieve, willing to take the forefront against Mias for at least a short while. The change in Vagary is amazing. Joyful and excited, any room she steps in is immediately bombarded with her essence-- the very air feeling like life is being poured into it. Smiles and laughs abound, at least for now. NOTE: This feeling around her is evidenced OOCLY by the sparkles that emanate from her body. Feel free to play off this!
Recognition and the Iradu
Vagary, who wasn't supposed to be on her own, stumbled across a party at Silver Lake in Steel Canyon. She took her place in a costume/question contest, having a great time. Of course she informed everyone on the various communication channels and people began to show up- more than likely to check on the safety of the little girl. She won the contest and as the party broke up even more Foundation people made their way to the party, invited immediately by Vagary as soon as their presence on the comm was made.
It was there that the Rikti attacked. Among the number were Priests. Iradu. Vagary, who was NOT using the Hazard room, did her best to heal and help her friends. The focus of the alien creatures seemed to be on Vagary as they continued to try and grab for her. However, she was well protected by the many heroes with her. Her family and friends made it impossible for them to get a firm hold and they were repelled.
Following that battle, finding everyone okay, Mr. Zen informed the eight year old that Ms. Liberty wanted to see her in Atlas. This made the Vagary so excited. Everyone was invited to come. Yet, once they set foot in Atlas Park the Rikti attacked yet again and this time with more violence and persistence. More priests and more attempts to snatch away the bundle of innocence and AGAIN they were fought and sent scrambling away in defeat. Everyone was alright, the little girl still safe amid family. She stepped up to Ms. Liberty and with a tug to her hand the woman bent low to whisper in the ear of the Hero named Little Miss Vagary who subsequently let out a cry of joy. "I'm a HERO!" She exclaimed. And yes, she was. Granted Security Level 50 she's now a registered Hero of the city at eight years old.
More fun to be had
Nothing like a little girl to bring out laughter and smiles.
The Azure Jackal- aka The Blue Dogthing
The ship. The cafe at the Foundation with it's underground lair. Surrounded by blue water infested with sharks. On April 7th, 2008 it was finally revealed to Helen- a long awaited surprise. And what ensued will never be forgotten.
While discussing things in that pirate way with yars and maties and such with Helen they were attacked by the tickle pirate Captain Benchy of The Red Baboon. First Mate, Vagary, took him on - crying out "I'll Lubber you!", but lost to his tickle powers, eventually calling parlay- though she has no clue what that means. They offered him a job as a cook to make them steak forever and he accepted. Then their captive- Helen- turned on them. They'd kept her after they took down the ship she was on -The Golden Acorn- that was headed to Sneakerland on a journey of peace- and she pulled a gun! A fight ensued and all fought valiantly. Captain Freddy of The Green Apple came to rescue Helen. His sword was sharp but he never waivered-- well.. only once when he was offered a position as Navigator-- but he wounded Benchy before taking on Captain Wings himself. And this was Captain Freddy's loss as he was forced to walk the plank and subsequently eaten by sharks. Needless to say the swooning Helen was left without a dashing hero to save her.
Yet it was interrupted when Jade sent a message to both Helen and Vagary saying she wanted to talk to them. ((Power outage! GRRRR!)) But there WILL be more adventures to be had on The Blue Dogthing and more crewmembers to be found!
For more adventures read the following stories!
Breaking the Rules
Vagary likes to go outside. She's not supposed to but she does anyway. When, like after a particularly terrifying nightmare, she's scared she finds breaking the rules gives her a bit of a rush and some control.
Usually she's found by someone.
A worry set to rest
The day of the Pirate Party there was an uneasy silence between the trio. Zarp, Helen and Vagary seemed without words and stressed. Vagary felt this and it bothered her. A lot. Finally she just couldn't take it anymore. On a particular morning she'd had a nightmare. A horrible one that followed her even awake. Mike, having been sent by their parents to get her while she wandered outside, sat her down and made her talk. He listened and reassured her, being the Big Little Brother that he is. He insisted she talk to Helen. She did. She in turn insisted that the eight year old talk to Zarp. So she did.
While she they talked she got off her chest the fear and worry she had at the distance between everyone. She apologized for telling Mike that maybe she wished "HE was her hero" when it was obviously not true but said in childish frustration. He forgave her and wasn't angry because she hadn't meant it and they went for ice cream. There they talked a bit more about Zarp's relationship with Faith and how Vagary tended to stay away.
The Little Girl keeps helping
Whether taking on the big nasty bad guys or helping a friend... she's there.
An appearance in the Isles
Vagary, using the Hazard Room of course, joined up to take on Lord Recluse himself. Those she helped were Mechanizm, Zeal, Zoe (Who was there OOC due to still being in Japan at the time of the TF), Zarp, Yolanda Gladstone, Katietank, and Nu Guy. She found it taxing but did her best and they all successfully completed their job.
It was on the coalition comm while doing this that there came a frustration with Rath. She clicked off the comm, upset with him.
A Vampire
Coming at Daria's call she joined with a few others to go rescue Fade Darkcaste, the vampire responsible for Daria's on Vampire side. A good friend of Vagary's who'd gifted her with a bracelet to keep them in contact, the little girl couldn't help but go! They freed him his prison and Vagary healed him as best she could. They haven't spent much time together since but she still considers him a great friend.
Rath was with Daria, considering they're in a relationship, when they set out to do this. It was obvious that Vagary was still a little upset by what Rath had said to her a few days before.
That night she had a severe headache and Helen had to take her home just after getting Fade to the Foundation.
Later, she sat in on a few minutes of Fade's interview with Mr. Zen before visiting with Ashley (Black Ashes), one of the Foundation doctors. Rath went with her and they made up.
Thundercats, Ho!
On one of her excursions Vagary made friends with a boy calling himself simply Kid. They became instant BEST friends- calling themselves Kit and Kat after the old show Thundercats. A homeless boy living in boxes she's tried to get him to come home with her but he refuses. Surprisingly no one ever took an interest or cared about Kid- except for Vagary. Even Zarp finds him trouble.
The pair have their own matching costumes and together they came up with matching Zeal Drain costumes, Kid being one of his fans.
You shouldn't do... oh.. bad...
Kid was trying too help. He could see or feel mental tendrils that flowed into her mind and so he snipped them. When he did Vagary became lost, Nix appearing to draw both Zarp and Kid into the little girl's mind. Once there they were forced to leave a piece of themselves behind in order to make her whole and set her free.
Kid was fine with it. For Zarp it had consequences he's shared with very few. Jade was told but she only shared the information regarding the incident with Mr. Zen and Kai.
Abilites now Explored
Once they'd entered her mind, Vagary discovered new abilities. Mental abilities. Not only that, she can be flown around by Kid- hoping that some day she'll fly herself.
It's Done
The Zenvious Foundation closed, Vagary's parents moving her all the way to Nepal. She misses her friends, Helen having moved to the Vatican and Zarp having gone on his way. However at least she discovered a new way to be a hero. She is a healer where she is and she is never lacking in someone who needs her help.
Visiting
Sometimes Vagary returns via portal to visit her Big Little Brother. Most of the time she doesn't stay long and oftentimes the visit corresponds to when Costume Contests are being held. She actually one second place in a recent one that Mike took her to. She was ecstatic!
Rarely has she spent time with anyone else in Paragon since moving.
Though she's two years older Vagary has only grown a little bit physically. Her mentality however is the same as it was when she arrived over three years ago.
Poo and Tears. Gross.
On August 26th, 2010 Vagary came for one of her visits. She hung out with Mike and his friend Lexi then attended the Contest. She did not win or even get an honorable mention but she did meet Mr. Bunny and see Steamshot. She thought Mr. Bunny was awesome.
Martin was of course monitoring her and she had a comm so when Zarp said hello she HAD to respond. SHe told him she was real but he had to come see in person. Not that she had a problem with that. She hugged him excitedly and they began catching up. While they were talking a boy showed up. He called her Kit but it wasn't Kat. It was an older boy who seemed to be surprised that Atlas Park was still standing. Vagary got a bit upset. Major James Ashe showed up as did Bench but the latter only stayed long enough to say hello. During the confusing conversation Kid started to fade and then spread out as if he were many, many mostly invisible people. When he became solid again he was the Kid that Vagary new.
They tried to figure out just what had happened, what was wrong. Kid remembered nothing. Only that he'd spent some time hanging out with Vagary just that morning in Nepal. He, however, had not taken the portal to Paragon. How he arrived was a mystery. Finally Vagary was more than upset and so was Kid. He said he'd go away and in a huff she told him he should. Though quietly and through tears she said that it shouldn't be far, far away and not forever ever. As he walked away he changed again, right before their eyes, becoming more creaturelike and female! That "Kid" threw excrement at the trio it'd left, smacking a surprised Vagary with it.
She was distraught. Something was horribly wrong with her best friend. When Mike showed up to take her back to the Portal he was frustrated and concerned about what had occurred. Even more of a surprise for him was discovering that Kid was homeless AND had been in Nepal with her.
Major James had his little clockwork guy Vicar clean her up after she and Zarp tried unsuccessfully. Before Mike flew her to the Portal- making sure she changed and took a spray off first so that Jade would not be alarmed too much- Vagary asked the three men to please find her friend and help him. THey said they would.
Tragedy and Wonder
She found out she had a sister. Blue. She loves family so it was exciting for her. Then Blue went missing, mind controlled. Mike followed but returned. Without Blue. The only happiness was Christmas. While lacking it's newly recognized member she had a great time. Especially finding out Mike and Lexi were engaged!
Eventually Mike went to rescue Blue but didn't come home. Others told her he was nowhere and possibly dead. She couldn't believe it and somehow, someway a younger Mike showed up. She believed.
That boy went away when the real Mike was found and brought home. While he was gone Lexi revealed she was pregnant. Vagary was ecstatic!
Life was great. She was a hero. Family and friends were going great. Even Zarp had returned.
THEN...
7:15AM EDT, Monday, May 16, 2011
Vagary was having a good day. She made a friend at the hospital, a young girl with cancer who showed tremendous character, who laughed more than anyone Vagary had ever seen. When she got home, she played, and there was little she loved more than playing. That love was infectious, too; it wasn't long before some of the monks at the temple had joined in on her games. Even the temple dogs bounded about, barking and rolling and wagging their tails, while the little girl played. She went home in the evening and ate a light supper, and was back out in the yard, playing until nearly sunset.
Worn out, she returned to their tiny house – the house just right for the three of them – and closed the door behind her.
“I'm hooooooooome!” she giggled.
She ran to the next room, and found her parents there. Jade's eyes were red, as if she had been crying. Kai held her close, stroking her snowy hair. Vagary skidded to a stop, eying the couple who had adopted her.
“Something's wrong, I can tell. What's wrong?”
Kai reached an arm out to her. “Come here.”
She approached him warily, and knelt down next to him, her chin resting on his knee. “I didn't do anything wrong, promise!”
“No, child, you did nothing wrong,” he said with a sad smile. He reached down and took her hand, and began to relate to her all Mr. Zen had shown them.
She listened, her lower lip quivering, and once she realized what her father was trying to tell her – that Mike and Lexi and the baby would never come back to Primal Earth – she stood up and backed away, yanking her hand out of Kai's. “That's not fair!”
Kai closed his eyes and shook his head. “No, it is not fair. But it is what has happened, and we must have hope that your brother is where he belongs now.”
“Hoping doesn't matter. They belong here, with us! They're heroes; they should be able to visit, at least. They have to visit!” As she spoke, she backed toward the door to her room.
“No, they will never be able to visit, nor will we be able to visit them.” Kai's voice was gentle, and full of a kind of sadness Vagary had never heard from him.
“I won't believe it!” she shouted, and raced to her room, slamming the door behind her. She turned to the closed door and screamed, “And if it's true, I don't ever want to be a hero, not ever again!” But the door didn't respond, and Vagary found her only peace in the comfort of her bed, quilt bundled up around her.
“I'm not all gone,” Mike said.
She looked up, blinking. Mike – a young Mike, maybe only a couple years older than her – sat on a bench across the room from her. “Yes you are,” she told him. “Dad says you can't even visit. I'll never see you again, ever.”
“He's right,” Mike nodded. “And he's wrong.” He hopped down off the bench and strutted across the room, only to plop down on edge of the bed. He reached out and poked Vagary's forehead. “I'll always be here.” Then his hand moved to the center of her chest, and he pointed there. “And here, too.”
“It's not the same...”
“Nope. It isn't. But I've been your friend for a long time, the one you made me to be,” her imaginary friend answered, and for a moment she caught a glimpse of the same boy, younger, with blue hair and glasses. “And you gave me some of Mike. So at least it'll be a little the same.”
She watched the kid for a moment, then crawled over to him, wrapping her arms around him. “Yeah,” she said at last. “A little the same.”
And that would have to be good enough.
From here on she meant it. The little girl began to grow up. She felt she must. Maturing and focusing on learning. No hero work but growing in character.
For Clarity
It's easy to get confused whenever this little girl is involved (especially when I was away from the game for two years). So here's a helpful list: here.
