Life Stages

Here's a... fairly basic rundown of his past.

Life Stage 1

Carter Jameson was born on October 13, 1992 in John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the youngest of two kids, having an older sister. His father, Barry, is a successful banker, finding opportunity in Paragon City's branch of banks. This lead to a job transfer when Carter was just two years old. During the winter months of early 1995, the family moved to the Skyway City sector of Paragon City, RI.

Carter grew up having a fairly normal life. He had a few friends, played hide and seek, ride his bike with his friends around the block, you get the picture. It would later be discovered that Carter is actually quite intelligent (in an academic sense, at least). Due to this, he would skip 4th grade and head straight into 5th to make things more challenging for him.

Unfortunately, living in Skyway City meant having to deal with certain infestations on the streets. Most notably, Trolls. The first one he came across wanted his money. What for, Carter had no idea at the time but one could say that he needed money for Superadine. When Carter refused to give the Troll money, he was chased down by six of them. All of them carrying guns. Carter, thankfully, was fast enough to dodge all the shots that were aimed for him. Of course, this did not stop him from being scared to death at the time. Luckily, he was able to get to the cops before he did. This would, however, continue for years. It would lead Carter to knowing where all the shortcuts are, pathways, and alleys where there would be no Troll activity.

At the age of 10, he and his family would discover that he has... oddities. One day in school, he found himself being unable to pick up anything. His hands would be covered in some short of thin green bubble. That same day, he was sent home and was instructed to go to the hospital and be checked. After numerous tests, doctors and geneticists in Lagrange Medical Center would find that Carter is a mutant, having a DNA structure that is more complex than a normal human. This would prompt the rest of the family to have the same tests that were conducted on Carter.

It would be here that they would discover that their father also has the genetic make-up that makes him a mutant, though much less complex than Carter's. His sister Stephanie and mother Martha were found to be normal.

Unfortunately, this is where they would also find out that Martha has been suffering with pancreatic cancer. Probably for years. And at this point, the cancer has spread into the large intestine, so she is also suffering from metastatic colon cancer. Sadly, the discovery had been too late. On November 15, 2003, Martha passed away from complications.

Life Stage 2

Despite the Rikti War in 2002 and the death of his mother in 2003, Carter tried all he could to keep his head high. His father would also try to do the same. He had no intention of remarrying and he was determined to do all he can to make it as a single father of two. The first two years after his wife had passed away, Barry would go into a downward spiral of depression and alcohol abuse. He would frequently butt heads with his own kids, the older sister constantly having to be the mother figure of the household at such an early age. One night would prove to be a breakthrough for the three of them.

The mild-mannered Carter lashed out at his own father, expressing that he wasn't the only one who suffered from the death of their mother. Barry had never seen his son this angry and this sad before in his life, and the fact that he was doing it to him was what hurt Barry even more. After Carter expressed to his father that he did not want to lose him also, Barry was once again determined. This time, to sober up and not let get his depression overtake him, and he realized that his wife would not want him to continue through this downward spiral.

Life Stage 3

As promised, Carter's father sobered up. He was fortunate enough that he did not lose his job as a banker and continued to do well despite random bank robberies. Carter and Stephanie both grew up as decent individuals. On June 19, 2009 at the age of 16, Carter graduated high school with high honors. His father advised him to take a one-year break, to wait until he started college. He complied and in doing so, he found work in Bianco's Italian Cuisine in Faultline.

Because of his powers, however, he also took up a hero mantle. He wanted to keep this a secret from his father and his sister because of the risks involved and because of what they had gone through with his mother. Because of the trouble he had gone through with Trolls, he is usually found stopping trouble with Trolls in Skyway City and in The Hollows and tends to keep his profile very low key. Very few people know of his hero alterego, and is keeping his civilian and hero identities separate.

He was a member of The Young Watchers along with friends Jayden, Plum, and Eli. Friends who he met while out doing the hero thing, more or less. Along the way, he would go through most things that teenagers would go through. He has since moved on and has officially left the group as of the new year in order to focus on helping his father with his powers and focus on his life.

Life Stage 4

Carter has began his spring semester in Paragon City University, Founders Falls campus. Currently, he has no major planned. He is also still helping his father cope with his powers and slowly but surely, he has decided to get a license. He goes under the name, Skyline Ion. Unfortunately, his powers would once again take a toll on him and he has disappeared from the hero scene for months before he would once again surface. His powers have once again evolved. This time, into raw energy.

Character Stage

In a nutshell, it is fairly easy to determine what kind of person Carter is. Growing up as a child into his teenage years (and possibly into adulthood), Carter was always a mild-mannered boy. There are very few things that can anger him. As explained earlier, he was absolutely angry at his father for what's happening to him after his mother passed away. While not being too different as a hero, he aims to stay on the side of the law. Due to this nature, he also seems to be a bit too straight-laced. Unfortunately, Carter has quite a bit of hang-ups due to how he grew up. He immediately dislikes Trolls, he immediately dislikes ones who appear and act rebellious, and distances himself when those types of people are around.

Power Stages

What are his powers again?

Alpha

Carter has always been able to create force fields. It is this that protects others from anyone landing and attacks and helps dodge them. It is these same force fields that allow Carter to breathe underwater and even out in space. Carter has taken a trip to the moon a few times due to this.

Beta

Previously, Carter had the ability to create blasts of water droplets. Due to his powers being further mutated (it is rumored that the mutation was further caused by The Well of the Furies), his powers became raw energy.

Gamma

And lastly, Carter can fly. Perhaps it is part of the mutation that came along with being able to create force fields.

Friend Stage

Carter has a few friends, though these are mostly from the hero business.

Quirky Stage

A few noteworthy facts about Sky/Carter.

  • While it may be obvious that both Sky and Carter are reserved and quiet, in no way shape or form is he a social retard. He actually knows how to carry a conversation and is considerate of others' feelings.
  • It is difficult for Carter to forgive and forget. In the case of Vincent, a beer bottle was thrown at him and it shattered in front of him and it reminded him so much of the time his father spiraled down through alcohol abuse. Things like that, he can't forget. If anyone does anything like this to him, Carter will become avoidant.
  • Carter is a waiter at Bianco's Italian Cuisine in Faultline.
  • Carter tends to walk away from awkward situations. Especially when they involve anything sexual.
  • Carter tends to be hard on himself with many things.
  • Carter tries to see everything on at least two sides. These include situations and circumstances. If there are more, he wants to see it or hear about it.
  • Despite his powers evolving, Carter still retains the scent of rain naturally.
  • Because of that, Carter tends to be very thoughtful of others before putting himself first.
  • Despite his mild-mannered nature, Carter can and does get angry.
  • Only the following people know that Carter and Sky are the same person: Jayden, Eli, Joe (Brawley), Sage, Plum, and Adam.
  • Because of the things that Carter went through growing up, he tends to be prejudgemental towards those who display the brute/badass/bad boy/rebellious appearance and behavior. It would immediately raise a mental red flag and he'd be extremely cautious and would pass them off as either unintelligent, violent, mindless, reckless, or all of the above. These would include people like Vincent Irons and Marcello Giudice
  • After the failed attempt at getting to know and getting closer to Adam and Jayden, Carter is very weary of becoming emotionally attached to anyone. At this point, anyone who shows an attraction or a desire for him will find that Carter will become immediately distant. Even to the point where they may not see or hear from him again.

Comment Stage

If your character knows either Sky or Carter, please leave it here!
  • "Sky, as I see it, will grow into a fine hero. But just like any other teenager, he has his hang-ups and I don't fault him for that. For as secretive and as quiet as he is, I know there's a side to him that many people including myself have yet to see, and I'm sure he's had a difficult life somewhere along the line. Give him some time. He'll open up sooner or later." ~ Albert
  • "He needs to stop being such a stick in the mud sometimes, but I like him anyway." ~ Jayden
  • "He's an awesome guy, to be honest. The kid's got a good head on his shoulders, and...he's definitely gonna make the world a better place. He already made it one for me!" ~ Sage
  • "Sky is Sky. There's not much more that can be said about him. I don't have any younger siblings and sometimes I just want to crack him one upside the head, but in the way an older brother cares for a younger, hard for me not to like the guy. That's it. There's nothing more." ~ Eli
  • "When it comes to us all, we've got problems. We all have them. I don't know what Sky's are and I'm not as close to him as I'd like to be. He's a real sweet guy, though. Real sweet. I hope things get better for him." ~ Xan
  • "He's like the family I never really got to have. I really care about him and worry and just want to make sure he's okay. That's what friends do, right? I just wish he'd see that sometimes." ~ Plum
