Biography

Born in 1921 in Lewiston, Maine, Michael McKnight celebrated several of his birthdays over in the trenches during World War 2, his experiences there driving home his hatred of everything the Nazi's stood for.. After the war he was able to continue pursuing his academic career, with grades at the top of his class in Harvard, especially in science and mathematics.

Those two worlds would eventually meet after he graduated, finding work with a government laboratory whose task was to dig up and study some of the more interesting projects the Nazi scientists had been working on before the end of the war. Many of them were aimed at building bigger and better weapons, enhancing their soldiers, and there were even a few projects with more occult flavourings, but those were not his department.

Throughout most of the 1950's he, and his team, spent the majority of their time in the government labs, working on what was dubbed 'Projekt-Unbegrenztheit' by the germans, or 'Project Infinity'. While progress was slow, the work was definately interesting. Near the end of 1958 the project was essentially complete, though Michael and his team had to wait for the usual red tape to be cut through before they could begin testing on human subjects and gathering the final data needed to determine if their work was successful or not.

Unfortunately it was during this waiting period that all the projects began to be shut down. No explanation was given to the scientists involved, just that orders came in from above and now everything was being packed up and sent off to god knows where. Not one to spend almost 10 years on a project, only to then let it be sent off to some other lab so another scientist can work on it for a week and then claim success, Michael snuck out what was needed to test Project Infinity on himself, under the guise of clearing out his personal items, as everyone was doing, now that the facility was being cleared out.

As it turns out the project was, indeed, a success. Though the period of physical change afterwards was rather long and painful. At the end, Michael's body seemed to be capable of amplifying kinetic energy at astounding rates, and using said energy in any number of ways. From increasing the force produced by his strikes, to flight, and more. This increase in energy even went down to a cellular level, having the side effect of allowing his physical body to repair itself far quicker and more efficiently than normal. Even to the point of, seemingly, halting the aging process.

Needless to say, it took a few years for him to adjust to all the changes, and, while a success, the project was not entirely as stable as one would have wished. Though over time, and through further testing, he found ways to counter and even cure those instabilities the project introduced into his system.. Even with new-found super powers, Michael McKnight remained a labrat almost exclusively for those first years, Studying, tinkering with, and improving on Project Infinity. Though at a far slower pace due it now being a private project.

Eventually his curiosity got the best of him again, and he decided to track down exactly what happened to the original project, as well as all the others that got packed up and shipped off with no explanation... Eventually, after nearly a year and a half of following rumours, tips from old friends still a bit more in the know than he was, and general detective work, it led him to yet another secret lab. Though unlike the one he worked at, this was not government run, rather it seemed under control of the Fifth Column.

Having implanted a number of their group into a variety of positions in the american government, it was from them that the orders came to pack up and ship off all their old projects so that they could reclaim them, and the additional work done for them by american scientists such as himself. Knowing the kinds of effects his own project could have, the last thing he wanted to see was the Fifth Column with an army of Infinity Soldiers, let alone whatever else they might gain from all the other projects they'd reclaimed and gotten their grubby little hands on.

Putting his new-found abilities to their first real test, he attacked the Fifth Column Lab, and though it pained him to do so, as a scientist, destroyed all of the research on Project Infinity, as well as much of the rest in the process before leaving those running the lab incapacitated, and calling in the authorities to deal with them.

In the, nearly, 50 or so years since then, Mister Infinity has continued keeping an eye out for Fifth Column activity, as well as assisting however possible against other threats and criminal organizations. Now, having recently moved to Paragon City along with Mrs. Infinity - whose story is her own to tell - he seeks to join with the Global Defenders, and continue doing as he always has. Only this time with a whole team of people, which would no doubt make things easier.
