Nefarios Ghast
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Nefarios Ghast usually strikes people as aloof and rude. He considers all earthlings uncivilized and believes them to be of no consequence, with few exceptions. His people are very proud of their heritage: They achieved interstellar space travel thousands of years before humans discovered fire and by the time The Egyptians had created the pyramids, his species had established a vast empire.
Nef tends to say very little and usually ignores the people he is fighting with. However, people that get to know him soon realize he is actually very protecting of his close friends. His aristocratic personality is not totally due to his superiority complex, but to the single-minded focus of his personal vendetta against any authority and obsession with ruling the known universe. Highly intelligent and strategic by nature, Nefarios Ghast catalogs all information into his nearly photographic memory.
Nefarios Ghast was once a respected commander of The Thermacorp, a policing organization not unlike the Green Lanterns - But without the aid of Power Rings. The Thermacorp members are imbued with a semi-mystical cosmic energy. Originally named simply Nefarios, he helped bring peace to the planet Haas which had been at war for generations. Where there was civil strife, he sowed the seeds of peace. And where there was political disagreement, he brought understanding.
Growing up on his home planet, Nef dreamed of exploring the galaxy. He would often look up at the stars and imagine himself on a grand adventure, keeping the peace or exploring the cosmos. As he grew and the decades passed (his species is exceptionally long lived), the young Nef went to the school studying intergalactic law at the prestigious Nepo University and then went on to the Thermacorp Academy. Graduating with honours in Philosophy, Law and History.
After graduation, and recruitment by The Thermacorp, the ambitious Nefarios moved quickly through the ranks. By the time he was appointed Commander, Nef had several commendations and a well-standing position as peacekeeper; but he also had a notorious reputation for violent outbursts and very unorthodox methods.
Nevertheless, his superiors always spoke highly of him.
Then came the unfortunate event at the Chi Sector. Due to the unprecedented loss of billions of innocent lives, Nefarios was dishnorably discharged from the ThermaCorps. Swearing revenge, Nefarios disappeared.
It is a rare breed, the individual who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Nefarios Ghast and not feel like less of a person. We all look very small to him. However, a few members of the Rogues Gallery: are privileged to call Nef equal.
- Mindswipe has an immense, cold intelligence that never ceases to astound Nefarios Ghast.
- Nimrod can approach Nefarios with his typical pragmatism, allowing him to tolerate the Thraxian's presence. At least for awhile.
- Timecrusher is more than a faithful follower. He's a mule. What Nef doesn't realize is that TC is more intelligent than he lets on. For now they work together. For now.
Nefaris Ghast calls anyone or any group who is against his plans for total control, an enemy. In Bloody Bay, Nef had a run in with the The Infiltrators: while helping The Blacklist:. Nefarios will call anyone an enemy who does not stand with him in his mission.
Hit List:
Cosmic Energy
- Energy Attacks Nef's Will twisted the Energy granting him the power and strength of the cosmos. His punches hit hard, the cosmic energy often enough to disorient his target.
Energy Wave
- Warped Energy Nefarios Ghast has recently learned how to twist the energy of the Thermacorp into a mangled version of that wielded by most members. This Energy Wave is fast activating and deadly at close range.
Indomitable Will
- Strength of Will Nefarios' people are naturally strong-willed. Their resilience is only increased by the strength of their conviction. Nef believes beyond a doubt that his intent to seek peace through dictatorship is the only, logical course to intergalactic peace. Therefore, his very Will dominated the gift given to him. Nefarios Ghast does not work with the Cosmic Force, he uses it.
Heightened Senses
- Perception Due to his more advanced evolution, Nef is more aware of his environment and its hazards. His Heightened Senses allows him to perceive stealthy foes.
Sands of Mu
- While flying over Nerva Archipelgo, Ghast found some ancient, black sand. Carrying it, he has the ability to deal a flurry of punches charged with the Negative Energy of the Netherworld.
Crey CBX-9 Pistol
- Nefarios picked up this weapon during a raid on Crey. He's not really sure where it came from or how it was made, only that it comes in handy.
Nefarios broke away from his traditional allies in the Rogues Gallery and formed his own organization. Calling this group a "cooperative," The Redsiders celebrates villain solidarity in its obvious diversity. Instead of forcing normally volatile villains to cooperate, Nefarios hopes to unite his fellow Etolians under one common goal: Power. And the complete rule of Paragon City. The Redsiders is a testament to Nefarios' philosophy...And his complete loss of sanity. Villains don't usually cooperate without monetary incentive...
- I consider Nef to be my most iconic, Silver Age toon. Usually, I lean more towards Modern Age characters.
- Following my trend with Steel Dominion and Timecrusher:. Nef was heavily influenced by [1] from DC Comics. Energy Melee was easy to choose; the set practically wrote itself into the character. I'd been wanting to try Willpower since it was first announced and I remembered that members of the Green Lantern Corps. powered their rings more through sheer strength of will than the power source on Oa.
- The blue skin just happened by fiddling with the skin colour option. Sinestro has red skin and the Heroes in City of are usually represented with that colour. It seemed fitting that a fallen hero would be blue-skinned running around the red-centric City of Villains.
