Casey McKnight

Casey stands at about 75 inches (6'3") and around 220 pounds. His skin is light, his hair is dark brown, and his eyes are blue due to his partial Irish heritage. He's very muscular and part of his daily routine is a workout session and, along with his hero work, that keeps him in good shape. His skin is unmarred by scars or tattoos, due mainly to his regeneration which makes him look younger than he actually is.

Casey is very protective of his friends, going to any end to avenge them or to save them. He is this way for fear of losing those he loves like he has so many others. He's very passionate about the things he does, making him very stubborn. However, he's very prideful, many times to a fault, not able to admit when he's wrong or taking jokes about himself too seriously. Because of his pride, he's easy to anger and will sometimes lash out at friends if he feels insulted enough. He has a habit of viewing problems around him and twisting the situation so the fault ends up being his own. Every problem that goes on around him, he wants to solve. Many times, he's also a fun-loving guy. He enjoys making his friends laugh and smile and doesn't like it if they're mad at him.

Casey possesses control over nanites in his body that are created by a replicator located in his lower back, attached to his spine. His nanites give him various abilities, such as, as he describes it, control over darkness, regeneration, super speed, and increased strength.

His nanites also appear to have the ability to eat almost anything except for living creatures, although this appears to be because of his aversion to using them to eat living beings. They once ate a whole coffee table.

Before Paragon City

Casey Sean McKnight was born on September 12th, 1984 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Catholic parents. He was the third of four kids. From an early age, his father, a former assistant coach at the University of Michigan, sat down and watched Wolverine football every Saturday (that it was on). Being a Wolverine fan he, of course, hated the Ohio State Buckeyes. He started actually playing football early in elementary school, playing simple pick-up games of two-hand touch football.

Over the years, his skill grew and grew. He was a four-year starter in high school at safety. Four-year starters are rare in high school because seniors usually started. But, Casey was good enough to fill the safety position all four years.

It wasn't until 2002 that all of this paid off. His school made it to the Michigan state championship. And, with Casey's help, they won the title; Casey was named the MVP of the game. His whole life, he wanted nothing more than to go to the University of Michigan. Casey was recruited by Michigan, Michigan State, as well as some other schools. It didn't take him long to choose to attend the University of Michigan, however.

After receiving an athletic scholarship from Michigan and planning to move out to Ann Arbor...

Paragon City

Origins

Around the time of graduation, their father received a notification that he'd gotten a job with a company called Crey Industries in Paragon City, Rhode Island. The job paid well, but it forced the family to move there. Both of his parents and his brother moved to Paragon City, while Casey decided to move to Ann Arbor.

It was during the football preseason that he received a call from his distraught mother that his father had gone missing. Crey had called and informed her that he hadn't shown up to work in a few days and they were wondering if something had happened.

At the age of twenty-two, Casey was going around Paragon City trying to find answers. He was in the library at the university in Steel Canyon when, after leaving, he was drugged and kidnapped. When he woke up, he saw two faces staring down at him. Those two faces were faces that he'll never forget. One was of an old, bald man with a white beard. The other was of a young woman. Her hair was blonde and she had a continuous look of intrigue on her face.

His head was spinning and their voices echoed through his head. He was told that he was to work for them when they got finished with him. They experimented on him and, Casey remembers very little of what actually went on. However, he knows that after the experiment, he had a strange device in his lower back, attached to his spine, that generated nanites.

This is where he learned what happened to his father, yet he knew not why. His father had been experiment on, just like him, by the same very group that his father had worked for, except his father did not survive them like Casey had. After the experiments, he began to work for them, trying to find answers on why Crey had done such a thing. After a time, he came to the conclusion that it was doing more harm than good and he left.

He told his mother what had happened to both his father and himself and, even though they didn't have a body, they held a private service for his father.

Through working with Crey, he learned of his powers and his limits. After leaving, he created the identity Shadeweb, devoting himself to stopping Crey and to prevent similar occurrences in the city.

Shadeweb was an outlet for Casey to let out his anger and rage on those that deserved it. His philosophy had always been to never harm those that didn't deserve it. His personal motto was "Justice For All".

He had no quarrels with killing those that he felt deserved it. And every criminal, in his eyes, deserved it. In his eyes, they had made their choice and it was too late for them to go back.

• Raykera - "Raykera. Ray. What can I say? I love her more than anything else. She's beautiful, smart, strong, and funny. She's also a wonderful mother and I'd do anything for her. I enjoy showing her new things about this dimension especially. If you do anything to hurt her, I'll be sure you feel that pain over and over again. Just so we're clear."
• Xeden - "Chris is a good guy. We've had our ups and downs, but I think we've remained good friends through all of it, or I'd like to think so. I'm still not sure how he feels about the entire thing. But, I still consider him my best friend."

Notes

• Being married, he always wears a silver and gold wedding band of an intricate Celtic design, except when he's out doing hero work.
• He was raised Catholic and wandered away from it after a while, but has since rediscovered himself. Thus, he wears a cross around his neck at all times, except for, like the ring, when he's doing hero work.
• He has one specific spot, north of the main island in Talos where he goes if he needs time alone. It is the place where he asked Ray to marry him and eventually became the site of their marriage.

• If Casey were to appear in a live action movie, he would be portrayed by Chris Pine, as pictured above.
• The character Shadeweb has gone through many incarnations until I finally decided that his alter-ego would be named Casey.
• I originally created this character on Liberty. I was inspired to make him by a costume that I really liked and I decided to make one that looked like it.
• When I first transferred him over to Virtue, he was based most off of Spawn, Wolverine, and numerous other anti-heroes.
• Because of a storyline, he is now OUT OF RETIREMENT! Yay!
• He is the Primal counterpart to Praeceptor.
