The Past
Long long ago...
Before time, before the earth was solid and long before the cities of man arose, Dark Xion was an angel in the Celestial host known as Rashaiel. Rash sang in the Celestial choir, a creature of exprssiveness and brilliance whose sole purpose was to glorify the divine Authority in voice and act. However, Rashaiel was a sinner. There were two beings in the heavans that he dared place beside the Authority in his heart. One of them looked at him as if he were insane when he even began to approach the topic. The other started the war. So, tearing his heart in two, Rashaiel followed the Morningstar into the Fall. He became twisted, cunning, bitter and yet still powerfully expressive. He could emote with such conviction that few could remain unswayed by him. Perhaps he became an incubuus, if he ever cared for such petty lables. He became one of the Infernal's cheif head hunters, he was a brilliant negotiator; able enough to see both sides that he could pervert nearly any Celestial to their way of seeing things...
More recently, the prison on earth...
There come times when dreams are shattered and countless lives are torn apart. When despair and desperation will drive people to choose almost anything but the inevitable. The stock market crash of 1929, and the following depression were one such time. Rashaiel felt he'd spent long enough cooped up in the office, and he came to earth, striking a deal with a desperate young human. He would save the man's fortunes and family in exchange for his body and soul. Intending to turn the human to a life of crime, live it up in his body for a time, and then eventually abandon him to face the consequences for Rashaiel's excesses, the Fallen Angel possessed the human. Things went well for several years, until a group of Occult hunters; lead by the Midnight Squad, and the Celestial hybrid Azhraiel, caught up to him. They were outraged by his abuses, and moreover disturbed that a lieutenant of the Abyss was wandering freely on Earth. Cornered and about to be defeated, Rashaiel cried out to them that if they were to kill -him- they would be taking a comparitively innocent human's life, too. The team against him heasitated; and while it was not long enough for him to escape judgement, it was enough to save his life. To curtail his power, near defeat themselves, they bound Rashaiel into the human's form, sealing most of his powers for all time. Dismayed, Rashaiel fled. He took the identity of "Dark Xion" and after several bitter years; he struck out to Europe to revel in the onslaught of Chaos that was the second world war. He did not serve any one side; rather he acted out against authority wherever he found it, and lived utterly in the moment. He lingered too long in Berlin, though. When the Russians took the city they found and captured him. Rashaiel was to spend the next several decades sealed away in a soviet prison...
Side note; Alexander D. Faiyt
Of course, Dark Xion would not BE Dark Xion if not for the influence of the Human he's become merged with. Rashiel is only half of the story. The Faiyt (roughly pronounced "Fie-Yet") family was around for centuries before Rash came to earth; perhaps they are as old as Coriel's line. Human mages; the family line was known for eccentricity at the best of times. Passionate, dark, with poor impulse control; the Faiyt's were drawn to tragedy, madness and the occult. It was only natural that Alexander became involved with Zoria and the Circle of Thorns. He was a rich young occultist; he didn't have to work, he'd grown up somewhat sheltered, and he'd never known limitations. Alexander spent most of the family fortunes pursuing the dream of finding the lost City of the Mu. Even if he hadn't, he wasn't the type to be inclined to listen when the Circle advised him to prepare for the great crash. So, with his money gone, and his work for the Circle of Thorns largely incomplete and unapreciated, Alexander Fayet was all too willing to enter into a deal with one of Lucifer's soldiers. Perhaps Rashiel would be able to guide him to the answers he'd sought for so much of his short life...
closer to the now...
Rashaiel had decades to think while imprisioned by the Soviets. What he learned, what he decided, what pains or betrayls he relived in his mind, are things known only to him. How he was found by Broadhurst is not common knowledge. However; what can be attested to is that Kurt Broadhurst found out where Dark Xion had been imprisoned, and came to break him out. Kurt hoped to harvest Xion's unique genetics for use in a new Column expirament, a genetic program that was to span decades and rival their best efforts with the war wolves and the vampyri. Xion agreed to help him, but not without his own set of conditions; after all he claimed, his freedom was precious little to bargain with. Xion wanted to be involved in the project. Kurt agreed; though he would soon come to regret that choice. Somehow, the merger between an eccentric half insane millionaire, and an angst riddled heart broken fallen angel didn't turn out as successfully as one might have hoped. Neither party had gotten what they bargained for, and the resultant persona turned out to be unpredictable at best. So, when Kurt faked the failure of the project, Dark Xion was on the list of those told the lie. Believing that the attempt to create fallen offspring in the laboratory had failed, Xion left Broadhurst's base, traveling to the Rogue Isles. It was there he met the Enchantress who would become a close friend and the mother of Madeline and Lyo. They set up house and lived in a parody of normalcy, for a time...
Recent Events
After sending Madge and Lyo to boarding school in Paragon, Port Oakes just seemed empty. After a great deal of pestering, whining, and generally getting in her way, Xion was able to convince the Enchantress that he'd be better occupied if he had a project. Say, something like building them a summer home in the shadow shard... This held his attention for a few years. However, with the house more or less completed, Xion grew bored once more. The enchantress was content to let him return to the isles without her. After all, if they were on different planes of existance, perhaps she could finally have some peace and quiet. Xion found that several things had happened while he was gone. Madge had grown up! Lyo had returned to the isles! And, perhaps best of all, Broadhurst had lied about the project being a failure!! This was a given, after all. Madge and Lyo had mostly broken free of their inherited share of the bonds that kept him in human form, and yet the restraints on his power had barely loosened enough for him to cast a few simple spells. There had to be more vessels carrying those chains. After encountering Kappa, Xion was delighted to realize that his theory was correct. Broadhurst had, in fact, succeeded, and he now had an entire military project full of offspring to play with! It wasn't until he encountered the Celestials that Xion realized this might be a problem. After all, if his children were truly half human; they were unintentional vessels who would be able to carry the blood of one of the damned into salvation. There were those on both sides who would not take to this news well.
